- Today I visit the Althorp Estate in Northamptonshire, ancestral home of the Spencer family, and final resting place of Diana, Princess of Wales. I also visit the nearby church that houses the Spencer family vault where centuries of Diana’s ancestors are interred.
Many thanks to John D. Fielding for kind permission to use his excellent aerial shot of Princess Diana’s island at 07.45.
P.s. I am aware the captions go by a bit quickly! So sorry about this, it’s definitely something I’ve had to work on!
I was 16 when I watched her wedding sitting on the floor in my parents house. I got up at wee hours of the morning to see her funeral before work. And now I watch a video of her final resting place. All these years have passed and it still pains me to know she's gone. So beautiful, so elegant, so much etiquette. A true Princess. She will ALWAYS BE LOVED, ALWAYS!
I find it so sad that she was so often lonely in life and is more so in death. I think her wishes should have been honoured and she would be buried amongst her family
Thank you so much for this. I would have never seen it otherwise. I still have tears for Princess Diana.
Princess Diana ..... what a beautiful soul that we have lost. The entire world loved her and now misses her.💞
I swear the video transported me to a place where I could even feel the warm breeze and the sun gently touching my face.
Having been at the actual funeral myself in 1997 in London, I saw her coffin go passed me, just about 2 yards away, with the 3 Princes (Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry) and her little brother Earl Spencer, it was very emotional as I was standing there for well over 11 hours in the cold with people around the world. She was the Queen of Hearts for ever. May you rest in peace, and hopefully see you in the after world
So lovely. I may never get to visit, but your video was perfect, and I especially appreciated the NO TALKING - quite fitting actually. Very, very nice.
Thank you so much, very much appreciated.
What a beautiful place fit for the most beautiful Queen, Diana.❤
Althorp is so Beautiful, Loved seeing the grounds and the beautiful Peacock! Diana is and was BLESSED!
Brought tears to my eyes, and song to my heart, she is so profoundly missed , no one can fill her shoes. Thank you for such a beautiful video. I felt like your silence speaks volumes. Thank you again❤
Thank you, appreciate your comments.
What a gloriously beautiful day to be able to go pay your respects to our Princess.
This was so respectfully done. Thank you for taking the time to share your visit and not talking over everything…….I felt I was there walking beside you the whole time.
Your comment made my day, thank you.
Beautiful tribute. Thanks for posting. I like the quiet footsteps, and the lack of music and commentary. It’s appropriate to reflect the dignity of her life in such a way. Thanks for being respectful.
Thank you very much!
Thank you for not using any background music.
Only then we can properly assimilate the splendour of this place and at the same time mourn Diana's premature departure from this world.
All the best. ❤
Beautiful lady, inside out. Rest in peace angel Diane Spencer.
I think it's awful. I think her life was very lonely and now at this awful, watery burial place, her body is still all alone. Plus, they didn't honor her wishes. She wanted to rest eternally with her family.
God bless your heart princess Diana may God bless your children
What a beautifully made, professional and respectful film. Lovely and relaxing to watch.
Thank you very much!
It's said that Diana wished to return to Althorpe, if only temporarily, shortly after her divorce. This place has such a peaceful feel to it...can't help but think it would have done her good to have spent some time there to regroup. Stories at the time indicated Diana's brother didn't want Diana to return at that time & I've often wondered why not?
I believe it’s because of all the security measures that would have to be implemented (particularly for when William and Harry were there), in the end Diana’s brother felt it would be too disruptive for his own children’s lives. Sad though, and you can’t help but wonder if he regretted his decision.
Visited Althorp in 2003, 20 years ago and still fresh in my mind. What an experience meeting Earl Charles Spencer in the gift shop and him recognising me as a South African. Beautiful memories. ❤
I'll never be able to visit this but thank you for your tour and your explanations as you went through Diana's Family Residence and Burial plots. I would absolutely love to visit, and to see the Great Great Great Grandfather's burial plot of George Washington. I had a lot of emotions when I saw Diana's clothes and Wedding dress. We were all so excited to see the wedding. She is three years younger than myself. I used to buy clothing which resembled her fashion choices. She was on every magazine cover and watched for years. I couldn't believe it when she was proclaimed dead. It was like a knife through the heart. I'm American, but was so sad about the Divorce situation.
Aw, thank you.
A wonderful place for a wonderful Princess
I,m Maltese and I adored Princess Diana I think she was the most awesome person I ever seen in a long time and she's still is the people Princess and the walk it was awesome I never visited this place it's beautiful and very peaceful I,m sure princess Diana she's still roaming the place with her elegance .Rest in peace sweet princess Diana God bless you in Heaven 🙏🌹🙏🌹🙏🌹
This was lovely to watch. I particularly enjoyed hearing the birds chirping & the gravel crunching underfoot as if I were walking these paths myself. Diana will be forever in our hearts & memories as the beautiful, gentle and kind People's Princess. 🙏 Thank you for sharing your visit. (Pat-Canada🍁)
Thank you so much
This was really lovely. I'm an American from Missouri, huge Anglophile. Then-Lady Di married her Prince the summer when I was 9 years old. I got up at 0300 to watch the festivities live till they boarded Brittania for the honeymoon. Like so many others, I followed her life with great interest; still recall where I was when I heard the news she died (living in Alexandria, Virginia). I'll likely never have the wherewithal to visit Althorp and so appreciate your posting this; visiting the local village was a thoughtful touch.
Thank you!
I absolutely loved this, sadly I will never get back to England again, but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the grounds, the house and Diana’s final resting place, the church was magnificent and somewhat beautiful with its iron brick porch, plus the English countryside and weather was the highlight for me, thank you for sharing this.
Thank you for your lovely comments too!
Feeling conflicted about Diana’s resting place. Not only alone from her family, but on an island in a lake of her ancestral home that was not a happy place. But the lake and surrounds are stunning, and makes the walk to be at the lake about her memory. It also makes the family some money from entry fees I understand. The Church where the family crypt is, is gorgeous. But if pilgrims, the curious, the fans of Diana were to visit to it for her tomb especially in the early days, it would be disastrous for the fabric of the ancient building. So, there’s my confliction. By having Diana out of actual reach, on an island, an idyll to visit, was for the best. I feel sad she is isolated, but it is a gorgeous & stunning memorial to her, & place to rest. Thank you for this vid, it was nicely filmed especially the footage of the buildings, the trees and the island (and dock and boat)xx
Thank you, and for your very thoughtful comments too.
Absolutely beautiful may she rest peacefully
💔 After all these years, it still stings like it was yesterday. My 17 year old heart broke that morning in a way it will never fully recover from. Thank you for sharing your experience with the world.
My eyes teared up. This place is as beautiful and serene as Diana herself!
Gorgeous and beautiful. You will always remain in our hearts. Fare thee well ❤
I am so grateful for your video and detail Since HRH passing it has always been difficult for me to think on! I am from UK living in US and cannot afford to go home, the video portrayed not only her beauty and grace during her life but that of the English Countryside and Estates as well. She deserved nothing less.
Very beautiful. Thank you for taking us along. I feel sad that Diana is alone out there, even if it is beautiful. It’s not what she wanted and I feel they should move her to be with her family.
What a lovely video. Thank you for making it about the subject (no commentary, no selfies, and best of all no music). This was really peaceful and thoughtful to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The Althorpe estate is beautiful.A fitted burial place for very beautiful Lady Diana .May her soul rest in eternal peace Aameen
God Bless Diana always she was a wonderful woman R ip Dians❤❤❤❤
I love the place. It is so serene. Many of us love Diana so it is good that they open the place so we were able to visit her grave.
Thank you for taking us there. It is beautiful . However it is a little sad knowing she is alone on that island when she requested to be interred in the Spencer tomb.
One nd only princess who lives in our hearts❤we loved her a lot❤
From Pakistan
The resting place of a beautiful soul is also beautiful, love her loads. A princess like no other.
The true princess of the United Kingdom who should have been a queen for this nation very sadly missed will never be replaced by anyone and is a very hard memory of a princess who the nation loved and always will, from the nation of Great Britain to the Spencer’s our deepest condolences for a sad loss of a true real princess of this country
Thanks so much for this video and for being so respectful of Diana's memory. Her tragic and sudden passing was heartbreaking and as a young mother at the time I especially grieved for her sons. Hopefully she's buried with her beloved father and ancestors in the church because that was her wish.
Aw thank you for your very kind words.
I just completed watching the series The Crown. I am simply awed, blown away. Love the princess. Though far away from London, thanking God for the technology so I can see the resting place of the lovely lady.❤
Thank you for sharing your video. What a beautiful resting place of the Spencer family. Lady Diana was the real queen👸in the hearts of many who loves her.❤
From Philippines🇵🇭
What I found strange was that apparently, some years ago due to a lack of funds ( which isn’t unusual for those who own stately homes as the running costs are phenomenal ) Diana’s ‘island’ became unkempt and really run down. Eventually, as money became available it was completely refurbished and restored to its former beauty.
Given the love and respect that was always accorded to Diana by the British people, before and after her death,
I thought it was odd that on visits to her private gravesite, neither of her sons ( especially H ) thought to pay for her resting place to be restored. Unless of course, they never visited it, so they were unaware of the unfortunate state it’d fallen into. Given the amt. of angst ( to say the least ) weeping and wailing of Harry in particular, to then
never visit her grave - how hard is it to buy a posy or a little bunch of her favourite flowers and put them on her grave ? Maybe as some people say, she is interred inside the little church with her family but unmarked, so she can rest without souvenir hunters and tourists disturbing her. It’s strange I know, but it would explain why Diana’s island wasn’t prioritised to the top of Earl Spencer’s ‘to do’ list ? I don’t know.
Very thought provoking comments, thank you.
Thank you for filming this, I was unaware of the details of Althorpe.
Such a beautiful place and so peaceful. I was very sad to hear she was gone. She was the light of the royal family with her smile. Rest in peace Diana, will see you in Heaven.
I sway between the theory that the island is a distraction to give the family privacy, and that she is indeed interred in the crypt alongside her beloved father and the rest of her ancestors. Either way its a beautifully peaceful place . 🙏💙
I do know what you mean!
Thank you for such an amazing look into the life of the most wonderful women. I never met Princess Diana. However, I still miss her. The world is much darker without her in it. R.I.P. to the queen of my heart.
Thank you. The only thing I may suggest is that you keep the notes a little longer as I could not read it fast enough so I had to replay several times. You have good information worth reading.
Thank you, and 8 will certainly take that on board.
This is #1 on my bucket list. Diana has always been my hero. My reason for going into nursing. I was devastated when she died and always felt the need to go pay my respects in person. I am paralyzed so it's not so easy but someday it will happen.
I visited the place in 1998, 1 year after Diana death. At that time many people where there, we laid flowers at the greek temple in memory of the Queen of hearts. It was a very emotional visit.
Your tour of the Althorp estate was very tastefully done. Thank you for not speaking throughout, it made for a much more pleasant experience. Such a beautiful place, I hope to visit someday. 🙏❤👑
Wow, thank you!
Here, she can be at peace.....beautiful, but sad Diana. You will always be the Queen. RIP
😬 Although this is romantic, I'm not sure I like it or that they really knew her at all. In life, Princess Diana enjoyed being with people and approachable. In death, she wanted to be together with her clan in the family crypt yet they went against her wishes and essence in life to put her on this artificial island all alone. Plus I imagine the dry Spencer family crypt might've preserved her body better than being in the ground of a waterlogged island lake. Other than that, Althorp is a GORGEOUS and TRANQUIL estate! Really love all the hydrangeas and peafowls!
Such a beautiful and serene place beautiful place thankyou for showing us through this amazing journey 🙏🥰🌺🌹🌺
Thank you so much.
Beautiful grounds & lovely little church. May Diana rest in God’s eternal peace.
Thank you for sharing this precious video. I will one day visit Our Loved Princess Dian' resting place. From Canada with love and respect 🙏
Really enjoyed this. Just walking with no talking. It was like being there. Thank you for posting this video. A lot of us here in America just loved Diana. The People's Princess for sure!
You are so welcome
Yes, Diana's burial place is certainly beautiful, and it allows her family to remember her in private, but, let's be honest: it also is a source of income for Earl Spencer. And it was NOT what Diana herself wanted.
Marvelous! I live ''across the pond'', and yet felt right alongside you during the visit to the lovely Althorp estate and Diana's resting place.
Wonderful! Thank you.
Thank you i loved Princess Diana 😢
That was an absolutely Beautiful walk, thank you so much for taking us along. ❤
Thank you, and you’re very welcome.
A beautiful place for a beautiful princess.❤
Such a great lady! She gave her life to loving and caring about others.
Congratulations for making a beautiful video 🙏😃👍
I certainly won't have the opportunity to visit Diana's tomb, but watching your video I feel like I saw it through your eyes.
Thank you so much 🙏🙏🌹
Thank you very much!
Thank you so much for sharing this peaceful walk. The House, grounds and church seem so beautiful and tranquil.
Thank you for sharing this tour of Princess Diana's resting place. Her family the Spencer's Estates and church. I wish I could come once in my life to see this beautiful place from July to August. She will always in my Heart be
Beautiful Princess Diana.
🙏❤️🙏
Rest In Peace dear Princess Diana GBY Your family
It’s been reported that William and Harry has been to the church there but not the island. The security inside there was increased after Diana’s death and you can see that some flagstones had been taken up around that time. I think it’s pretty obvious that she is actually buried in the family crypt. The island was a way to give people a place they could go to. The Spencer family would have put her where she would be accessible only to them and her sons so she could rest in peace.
Thank you so much for the beautiful tour. I'll never get to see Althorp or Diana's resting place myself but your video made me feel like I was there.
Lovely comment, thank you.
This was just lovely and a loving tribute to Princess Diana. Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you so much!
Rest in pease LADY Diana. Will never been betrayd again.Simpathy to her brother.❤
This video was absolutely fantastic! I've often wondered what Althorp grounds were like. Diana's resting place is beautiful and so peaceful. Thank you so much for sharing your video with all of us! ❤
Thank you.
It is very lonely and sad to see where she is buried. In a small land all alone. So depressing.
Exquisite in beauty and wonderfully presented; felt like I was there walking with you. Thank you so very much.
Thank you for taking us to this place. We all miss her. Rest In Peace Diana.
A beautiful video and a tribute to our wonderful Diana Princess of Wales. So sad to lose her life at such a young age. A loving peaceful resting place for her and hopefully more of her family.
What a lovely video! I truly thoroughly enjoyed it so much! Thank you for posting it. I still remember exactly where I was & what I was doing when the special report came on the news. Even though I am an American & obviously had never met Princess Diana, I grieved as though I had lost a friend. Her tragic accident was a loss not just for England, but the entire World. May she RIP on that beautiful serene island.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment.
Beautiful video thank you for a wonderful memory I visited there on my birthday which is also Princess Diana’s birthday July 1
I love this! Thank you so much for sharing. I admired Diana so much , may she rest in peace
I would never have a chance to visit this places. Thank you for exploring & sharing all the memorable places 'People princess of Heart - Diana'
Thank you for the video ...brought back memories. Charles Spencer really honoured her with his words and actions
The one thing I can tell you for sure, and you could even ask any of the residents that live in the area she is not buried on the island. She is buried underneath the church that she was baptized, and that is not far away from the estate. In fact, I think it’s right nearby.
Thanks for sharing. A true princess, a true noble, pure soul, unmatched beauty both inside and outside ❤
It was just beautiful. Thank You for sharing your trip. I appreciate it.
Thank you, that was beautiful to see. I wasn’t aware that they had tours. It’s very nice to see that she is in a safe place of beauty and with her family. ❤
It really is!
