0:22 (The image is very quick, so it may take some time to pause it at the right frame) I remember reading a theory on why Dan's death was ironic. In this paused image, you'll find that Dan and Garcian shot at the same time. However, Garcian/Emir is seemingly immortal...or at least impervious to any weapon except his own. I digress, the reason Dan's death is ironic is due to his demeanor and attire. In his former life, Dan was lackadaisical, preferring long and idle chit chat and being hesitant (or at least willingly delaying for the sake of theatrics). This is why Dan is resurrected in the Smith Syndicate as a blunt badass that shoots first and talks later (thus the change from the laidback tank top and jeans to a 3-piece suit...symbolizing that he "means business.") TL;DR Dan changed mayne.
An interesting theory, especially when coupled with the fact that Curtis Blackburn says to Dan "Danny boy, you've changed considerably... into a badass, if I may."
According to TV Tropes, Harman helped install Dan's hidden soft side for children, thus leading him to hesitating against the thirteen year old Emir (even though he looks and sounds just like a grown man).
6 years late, but I'm not sure I fully subscribe to this theory. Dan is REALLY chatty, especially compared to the other members of the killer7. He has conversations similar to the one seen in this cutscene with both Curtis, The Handsomemen, and Trevor Pearlharbor.
I like to think that in Garcian's Killer7, the Smiths all ended up taking qualities related to their flaws in how they died. Dan has changed considerably... Into a badass, if I may. Kaede attacks from a distance and fumbles with her reloading Coyote was surprise attacked from behind by Emir, so he can jump and relocate to where nobody can take advantage of him Con was too busy listening to music, so he gained super-hearing. Mask was caught at a moment of weakness without his mask. He will never remove it again
This video is old and no one is gonna see this, but my friend had a theory that the reason Dan has a lot more dialouge than any of the Other Smiths not named Garcian or Harmen is because Emir actually had a conversation with him, as shown here. By contrast he just killed everyone else. Considering what the Killer 7 are, It's a neat, somewhat plausible theory that I like to think of as cannon
at the start of 0:22 (or maybe its more practical to go to 0:21) you see 2 muzzle flashes. i played it at 0.25 speed. both guns fired. the common theory stands that emir was inmortal. (except for his own gun apparently) also. im aware this is a super late coment,
Dan beat Emir to the draw if you slow mo it, and even fired about a millisecond before Emir. I still don't see how he lost, unless Emir truly was immortal At least Dan was badass, even when being killed
@LessthanJake14 A lot of that makes sense. As for the Emir/Garcian/Harman interaction, This is my theory: Emir fought with Harman and attempted to take his power. Instead, he gained the subservient Young Harman's powers/personality, becoming Garcian and leaving Harman comatose. As Garcian had his mental breakdown, Young Harman broke free and killed Harman and Kun Lan as a final act of rebellion, accidentally opening the way for Emir to take control between the chapters "Smile" and "Lion."
@LessthanJake14 my two cents on one portion of the game: As I see it, the game is divided into several planes: 1) Gods plane - where Harman and Kun Lun are and see the world as it is and do with it what they want 2)Demi-God plane or Gods Hosts - like Garcian Smith, that Japanese guy, Heaven Smiles etc. 3)Spiritual plane - Ghost and such 4) Human plane - humans can't see Gods, ghosts, demi-gods (Garcian) until he reveals himself, and such but can see other 6 personas. Harman---->Garcian---->6 P
@LessthanJake14 I had the same idea. Seeming as Harman had gray eyes and Kun Lan had red eyes. during the lion chapter Garcian has green eyes meaning becuase he was now awoken he had become a demi-god like Harman and Kun Lan. If Kun lans hand is constructive and Harmans is destructive the Garcians must be judgement as he does decide the fate of the world at the end with a gun in HIS RIGHT HAND same hand the other 2 used. Just a theory can't help but try and make sense out of this game lol XD
i was pissed when i played through the game and i found out dan was killed my Garcian(emir) Really Garcian his weak ass then i found out how badass garcian was. BUT STILL DAN SMITH IS A THE BAMF OF THE KILLER 7
Dan didn't shoot. You know how in movies they would both be aiming a gun at each other then talk? Well thats what happened hear but Garcian shot when Dan thought they would talk.
@te0202 Judging from th angle Dan probably shot Emir in the face. Problem is the guy just can't die. Later he shot himself and came back as Garcian. Or something like that, this game's a bit weird.
@LessthanJake14 lol yeah im just sayin that it seemed kinda like all 3 of them were related by the end in my opinion. But then again though the story in this game is practically told by the people who are playing it. Fans more or less make the story =P
Theres something I dont understand, what was the mission of the original Killer 7 the ones that were in the union hotel. Why did Kun Lan manipulated Emir to kill the original Killer 7 and Harman? Anyone care to explain
I think Emir Shoots first and that it knocked Dan's shooting off balance... I've played the game other and over and although Dan has been a favourite of mine... I think Con has gotta be the best one.
@LessthanJake14 Check the video again, the gun went off inside his mouth. He shot himself, fell to the ground and died. Then he was resurrected as Garcian, presumably by Harman who needed new assassins. Garcian getting over his amnesia is the reason he freaks out at the end of the second to last chapter.
@LessthanJake14 Look, we could argue what is or isn't symbolic in killer7 for years and never manage to come to any kind of meaningful conclusion. And while I agree that Emir most likely absorbed at least part of Harman's personality(Young Harman, based on the scene where Old Harman and Kun Lan get killed) it has no bearing on whether he died or not. The third eye struck me as being like Kun lan's hand, it kept him alive until it closed and he shot himself. Granted, this is mostly conjecture
@LessthanJake14 Nah, I read it from some guy couple of years ago, but can't remember the site, I don't think it's GameFAQ's but maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, I would agree totally with that guy cos u all can see that humans can't see or interact with highly beings... so that's a little shortened story and explains some weird scenes in game but not all of them :)
hmmm if you pause it a 0:23 you will see that dan did shoot but missed the target trust me i hate it as much as all the dan fans but he missed but he could have killed him i know he hessitated

Welp, I just saw your comment and I figured I'd reply and say: that theory is actually incredibly good.
Hey suda did say make your own answers
i mean for the current game, uncut, i think it checks out
but for the uncut part, yeah no. i imagine they talked more though
Actually, you hear a click. Dan's gun had no ammo in it at the time. That's why Emir wasn't harmed at all.
at the start of 0:22 (or maybe its more practical to go to 0:21) you see 2 muzzle flashes. i played it at 0.25 speed.

also. im aware this is a super late coment,
If you pause at an specific frame of 0:22, you'll see both guns fire at the same time
Took 14 long years to answer you cuz I just found this video
Dan was my favorite charater
I guess Dan Smith didn't like this video

Dan cool as fuck even to the death!
No he is not
Yes he is
@@gravityrushfan299cry about it Curtis
For a 13 year old kid , Emir had a thick 35 years old man's voice.

Dan is the coolest son of a bitch I've ever seen. But Coyote put up a better fight.
Emir/Garcian: This is too easy haha

I too want dan smith
If u know what I mean
So how Curtis killed Dan? Did Dan died 2 times or what???
Curtis killed Dan in a Basketball court meeting and Dan is revived by Harman
Atleast Curtis know how to teach Danny Boy
i was pissed when i played through the game and i found out dan was killed my Garcian(emir) Really Garcian his weak ass then i found out how badass garcian was. BUT STILL DAN SMITH IS A THE BAMF OF THE KILLER 7

@comradez14
Every single member of Killer7 was killed once before the Union 7 hotel incident. Dan is just the one we get the most insight into.
That's all you need. ;) Dan rocks in any combat situation. Besides, he's the only guy who can take out those Deployer Smiles.
Collateral Shot rules!
0:22 Giuseppe Garibaldi from one piece death scene in nutshell
This just might be the only headshot that ever disappointed me.
best character dead
I love this game
Damn it Otacon! Get a grip!

yep this is why his special is called the "callateral shot"
High-impact sexual violence.
Er, actually, there are two Michael Goughs in the voice acting business. The British one is the one who's ninety. |D;;
@n543576 He kinda stole their souls. They didn't know they'll be killed soon. Well some did, they ran, but got killed anyway.

@NBluth yeah man this game fcks peoples mind... but oh well its still awsome
im not that far in the game so this may sound stupid but i thought curtis was the one that killed him
Hmmm... yanno, if you pause the video, you can see that Dan and Emir both fire at the same time. Guess Emir was just the luckier one this time. :P
@te0202 he shoots him; you can hear one shot is fired just before Emir shoots him
@comradez14
Well, obviously they weren't "Killed" killed.
They simply resurrected themselves after a time.
I think Emir Shoots first and that it knocked Dan's shooting off balance... I've played the game other and over and although Dan has been a favourite of mine... I think Con has gotta be the best one.

@NBluth How are they killed when they are gods and appear 100 years later in Shangai???
wait a minute. i didnt notice this at first but compare Travis to Dan in this scene. THEY LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME.....
They dressed the same, they still look different. Travis actually looks more like Kevin (grey palor and white hair)
Emir shot a lil bit b4 Dan. jus by a milisecond.
@LessthanJake14

@sinni800 lol i read the book to it awhile ago it explained alot
Ah, yes it does, good point. Forgot about that. 'Tis been a while since I last played Killer 7.
@TRaxRose nad if i were a woman i would make him cheat on you!
hell yeah dan would shoot first
@BadPudding did he work with them?
Well he did killed Dan.
