She almost said Wife twice in that episode. When she was talking about the Coal Pit Naming. Anne has to care, she told her ex to watch what she says next about her wife. The drama with these two.
Oh I missed (or don't recall) the coal pit naming "w"! I did like that she said something when Mariana started with "half-witt" or whatever she called her, but I viewed it overall as misplaced loyalty the fact that she's going to comfort Mariana in the first place. Def enjoying the drama tho!
I honestly really like the thomas arc cause this is exactly what i expected of him, given how he behaved in the first season... "i used murder to solve a problem once and it worked, so i'm gonna do it again and again" is the vibe he always gave me

Charles definitely knew about Anne and Mariana because he had intercepted their letters at some point. He actually knew their full plan including the part where they were waiting for him to die which must have been awkward AF for Mariana.
It seems everyone back then understood that marriage wasn’t for love.
Lol YEAH that would be awkward knowing your spouse was praying for your early death! I guess it makes sense that he would have intercepted their letters, Anne coding her diaries makes a lot more sense now too...
@@AmandaCostner Actually she devised the code as a teen so nobody would discover her secrets but she did teach it to Mariana so they could write back and forth in secret. BTW Charles live a long time in real life. That shit was never going to happen. :)

@@AmandaCostner I meant in the diary Lister recorded after their marriage in 1834 December, she and Mariana had a closure sex and she felt guilty about it , walker moved into shibdon in 1834 September, ahah I did some history research

I thought the acting of the servants was superb.The portrayal sheer mysery of Thomas's wretched mother was utterly heart-breaking,and on a level with Chekhov.

I loved this episode... however... it did not make me happy. I do not appreciate Mariana's manipulative heartbroken letter writing bullshit after Anne finally moved on. This is a bunch of garbage! Been there done that.. No neither of them need "closure". It was done and dusted wasn't it? Mariana made her choice.
Don't go breaking my heart Blanche and then try to snake your way back in once I've found someone else! I've seen this drama too many times.. and it's F'D up!! Anne will cheat with Mariana and break poor little Miss Walker's heart and screw their relationship all to hell... then Mariana will be like no.. well you know... I already told you. I can't really be with you! Argh!!! @$%@$%$!!!
Seen that to many times as well it is hard to have a good relationship with someone new with an EX in the background it does tend to get a little crowed also the guilt letters M writes
I agree that it was done and dusted and Mariana has no right to be confused or mad at Anne. In season 1 we watched Anne tell Mariana that she was moving on, looking for a wife etc. I also remember her explicitly stating that Mariana's desired arrangement was out of the question, Anne wasn't just going to wait around for Charles to die.
@estellesilva oh yeah, having Exes around certainly never makes things EASIER 😩😂. I was glad Anne Lister told Ann about the letter writing eventually, it was going on too long in secret!
