Beginning with the Background for a Change - Sketchbook Session

  • To be clear, there is no right or wrong way to begin a painting. However, I have a habit of jumping in with lots of details first and later wishing I had started with a background - literally ANY background. Haha! Today, I decided I'd do my future self a favor and explore the background FIRST in these to sketchbook paintings.

    Love your process. When it comes to working intuitively, there are no mistakes; there are only adjustments!

    The left hand side, I love the way you handled that curved line going from collage to paint.

      @jackieschomburgart I sure am! It was the highlight of my day. I spoke about it like I interacted LIVE with a Superstar. 🤣🤣
      They don't understand us Gen Xers freaking out over how easy tech makes it to close the 6° of separation gap. 🤣
      I'm always here.

    It always amazes me when I do a whole painting swearing that I won't add black this time, how unfinished it looks until you give in and add even just a small bit.
    Thank you for the tip about sealing the tape, pretty sure that's going to be a game changer!
    I love the simplicity of the left side, something I have yet to ever achieve. Both are lovely though! Thanks for sharing. 🌻

      aha, black always sneaks in, right?! 🖤 So glad the tape tip helped! 🎨🌟

    Ha!! Well Jacks!!
    ~❤~ IF I really had to choose...I would actually go with the Right side!!! Funny how everybody's eyes see things differently!! Makes life more interesting!! And that's why I prefer the Right side....I just find it simply more interesting!!
    Wild too how you can pull such unusual colors together and make both sides truly
    successful~!!
    Thanks Jackie!! 😊

    I really hate choosing because I love them both so much! But if I must-the right side has a little house with smoke coming out of the chimney, and I have to choose that one.😘 This was super fun to watch! I love the taping results on both.

    SO DIFFICULT to choose a favourite!!!! I guess I'll go with the left side, simply because I love that little "eye glass" at the top of that big curve. 😆 ❤❤❤

      @jackieschomburgart  2 місяці тому +1

    No need to choose a favorite because, in my opinion, they're both gorgeous and need to stay together. Each of them elevates the other.

    Hi Jackie, I’m new to your site, but loving your style. I haven’t tried those rubber brushes you use, but bought a couple to try. How do you clean them ?

    • @jackieschomburgart
      @jackieschomburgart  2 місяці тому

      Oh yes, color shapers are one of my favorite tools! While the paint is off, you can wipe them off with a wet paper towel or rag. If the paint is dry, you can peel it off or soak it in water for a bit and the paint will come right off ❤️

    I do want to be sure that I understand the timing of the use of the gel medium. Did you put it on before and after the tape? Or was it just afterward?
