  • Capcom has finally released the new Street Fighter V patch notes for Season 2. I made a breakdown video showing and explaining the Ken character changes that are coming soon. This update not only has character changes but system changes as well. Many buffs and nerfs were reverted plus new special moves added to the game. This will be free DLC at the end of April for SF5.

      VesperArcade I feel like it should be slower. even just a decent ken player can get into that corner easily. since in the corner he has so many options the opponent has to think about. It's even harder to react too with all the other options in the opponents head. the risk doesn't at all out weigh the reward.

    With respect to who is the best shoto, I think Akuma already had a higher ceiling than Ken and we saw that recently with Tokido parrying V Reversals and converting that into BnB combos. The tech for Akuma is still in development while Ken is pretty much solved at this point. With this overhead nerf and Akuma's HP buff, I do not see how Akuma does not end up being the best shoto by the end of the year.

    They should of left it a lone considering they nerfed his run, dp, chin buster, ex tatsu. and regular tatsu damage. I would of loved seeing his V-Trigger build up sooner. I feel like Ken almost has to be nearly dead before I can activate it.

    Thanks for the update video. I agree with the single patch note for Ken is indeed a nerf but with the next system patch for FPS, it's a buff. Overall a balanced patch for shotos nonetheless.

    I think they were good changes for ken, being able to combo after that overhead is to strong imo, so making it unsafe on block was a pretty good change

    Ken's neutral is garbage. He should have at least received a buff to balance this nerf. Ken gets nerfed and Balrog gets away with minus 25? That's a joke. Yes, I'm salty.

      Low forward to ex haduken should *ALWAYS* combo especially in vtrigger...
      Some recovery taken off hadukens in general would be nice.
      They should also remove the counter hit on his vskill. To stop jab mashers from getting combos they wouldn't otherwise get from a jab.

      The st.HK +3 smallest of risks biggest reward is an issue.
      Or the EX Dash Punch -- they nerfed Urien and Birdie's forward moving EX moves, but Balrog gets to stay +1!!!!!

      Balrog's Ex Dash Punch being untouched is flat out indefensible. Still didn't justify Thunder kIck being so low risk for such a high reward. It was a very reasonable nerf.

    the +3 on hit was added in season 2, not this balance patch. Didn't sound like you specified that.

    I think it's reasonable. There's so many options and I mean he can hit it meaty anyway after certain set ups so when it comes down it he'll still be able to get at least -3 which means it'll level down the punishment options.
    He needs help in other places though. I don't think he should be as punished for doing Standing HK in V Trigger cancel scenarios
    Maybe he could get damage back on it only in V Trigger. Perhaps give him 90 in V Trigger only. Especially since the combos you get off the +3 only occur in V Trigger scenarios as his meaty version of it leaves him at -3 still anyway. So he can still be punished by 3 framers and including himself.
    This way we can still see the combo come out but not in every situation... only for V Trigger conversions.
    Perhaps we'll just have to see cause I still want be able to kill 1025 without always leaving a sliver of health like with Balrog (who is 1000 next patch but Alex is now 1025). If not... 85 damage would be straight just for the swag.
    Plus at 85 cr. hp is still easier.

    I don't understand Capcom's logic, Fucking Laura has everything +OB and you have to guess every time you get knocked down by her, yet she is most likely untouched in the balance patch. WTF

    man, i can't wait for Juri's Balance changes since she's my main and all :
    - Universal DP changes apply.
    - No more AA jab without addressing her weird ass hitboxes on the DPs, the fact that her main AA (Cr.HP) is stuffed by anyone from any angle 100% of the time, or that her stand HP (the one semi-descent AA she has) only works from full screen away..
    yeah..should be fun for us juri mains..
    why not extend the hitbox on her charge motion like SFIV, it used to be her best AA cause for one it gives you charge without having to eat a combo while trying to do it like always, and you could combo after it for a slight amount but much needed little extra damage..
    man they fucked juri over in this game in the worst possible way, pains me to see her like that honestly..

      She is supposed to get the same DP buffs as everyone. However I've heard medium DP is still not working correctly on the beta.

      if you are having trouble getting the tatsu to hit btw, it's because you enter it too fast. the overhead has to be complete before you hit lk, it's not a cancel.
      Took me a little bit to figure out what I was doing wrong ;)

    Even in the 7th yeah of 4 there was still new tech, strategy and combo videos. Now in 5 all they show are highlights of people getting shimmed into stun and perfects etc @vesperarcade

    These changes really dont matter. Most players online will still heavy tatsu from full screen and immediately do ex dp. Lets just say this about ken in sfv -- a blind player just won a match at some tournament with ken. That is all *drops mic*

      SatanicTrees pressing light kick after the corner throw makes the timing of the next throw meaty. it will beat wakeup 3f jabs and thus the throw loop.

    most Ken players don't care about the thunder kick nerf. what we do care about is they did not fix the pushback on cr.mp. they didn't fix tc2 whiffing and tc1 whiffing on a confirmed hit. the cross up nerf, the ex tatsu nerf, the b mp nerf, the v reversal nerf. the unsafe step kick. oh but please talk about his "world class" throw loop that they also nerfed..and only nets 100 damage. a 3 frame special is not a substitute for a 3 frame normal . lk tatsu (which they nerfed) is -9 and lp do gets you killed if you are wrong. urien has a safe overhead that's fucking +8 on hit. yeah but Ken +3 overhead had to be nerfed for balance. haha fuck capcom. @vesperarcade

    I use Ken as main character, I don't understand why they nerfed the run, and DP, doing wake up DP is nothing but a risk with no reward at all, you do it you lose, you do it you get punished..,
    I don't see why they didn't nerf balrog.

    Shotos were, are and alwayd will be the identety of SF, they are the reason many peolple plays SF. Remember the player reaction on SF3 when capcom was thinking in not using ryu, ker o akuma on the game. So why capcom insists on make them weaker?
    Ken was low tier on sf4 and I was so happy when I see him on SFV, cause despise his weird face, his moves were awesome, and then capcom nerferd him every single patch. He dont have mix ups and his damage relies on very dificult hit confirms or you'll get hard punished. Resuming, his neutral is weak and everything on his offense is big risk, so you play it just for fun, cause theres a lot of better characters.
    This game is so unbalanced that I stopped playing it on season 2.
    It has a stablished meta. Do you want to win? just play the broken characters and you will successed, till the game being resumid to play just 2 caracters, like the capcom finals on last year, that we saw 2 mika and 3 chun on top 8.

    I really don't understand why people complain about Ken when he can't even dream about being top 7. You people should complain about characters who needs to be nerfed. Ken is basically like Sentinel from MVC3, always getting nerfed while zero gets buffed. The best Ken player in the world has been using Ibuki to fight top tiers for a reason.

I've been playing sf since sf3 so I understand where ur coming from. ppl honestly just go into training mode and study frame data for that kinda stuff. then just try it in training mode and mess around to see what works. sometimes you'll just be playing someone and you'll kind of randomly figure something out and be like "oh shit that works?? " it happens lol

      zewtuube the game is already a year old too so if there was any specifics you would want to learn about a character, I suggest watching someone who's really good use that character and see what they do. so u can get a basic idea of what normals are good, when to use them, etc..

    Still baffled how they're continuing to ignore his HK bug, where if the opponent is crush countered while beginning an airborne move Ken can't follow with anything.
    If the Ken player doesn't see it, then Ken will miss the shoryuken follow up & eat a crush counter punish.

    DAigo and Momochi in SF5 are still both handicapped. BUSINESS WISE from Crapcom. these 2 are the NO.1 and NO.2 of USF4. I cant imagine, they were both out of the scene.:(

      Daigo switched from Ryu to Evil Ryu~.
      Daigo also uses Guile in ST.
      Good players are still winning with their own preferred characters. (There's more than 20 insane good players now that the community has grown and quite a few of them have grown pass Daigo.)

      Th3Sh1n1gam1 i dont think theyve grown pass daigo, the game allows people with less skill to catch up to higher skill players based on mechanics, i.e shoruken to anti air takes skill, but why bother you can now anti air light jab, neautral game? why bother u cn just do countless horizontal specials tht cover distance instantly and make it safe, so the games made easier so the worse players dnt have to be better players, why is it tht pr rog wasnt doing much in season 1 then suddenly hes an amazing player, why is it tht nemo during season one vega wasnt doing much but with season 2 urien hes bodying people, games about which character u pick nw, not about skill

      First, Pr rog isn't even making tops and second, Nemo made it to top 8 evo with vega... how can you say either of those things?
      Then, they already nerfed most of the anti air weak buttons and they're going to be buffing all DPs so that if you want higher invincibility, you need to make higher risk assessments.
      Also, the facts that Necalli, Karin and R. Mika have been winning so many big tournaments is a testament that a lot of people's tier lists for top 5 are either wrong, or the players who play those non-top 5 are extremely good and deserve more respect.

      skillustrate I don't like charge characters. And I played Rog a bit but I'm very iffy about who to play. I love Vegas/Kens animations. Vegas command grab and ASE's sold me while Kens heavy tatsu and fierce dp made me want to learn him. I've seen you around the comments a lot. Who do you main as of now?

      SKITTLESJ023 Viper was my main in SFIV so in the absence of my redheaded baby, I've been in a blissful character "crisis". I'm the most comfortable with Karin so far-- one of the five characters I wanted the most. But why I say blissful is because Capcom also gave me Mika, and Kolin is right up my alley. I'm having fun jumping around for now but I do win more as Karin than I do with Mika, Chun, Claw or Juri.
      Seems to me like you and I have something in common: we both choose who to play based on a character's appearance. For you, its animations. For me? Sheeeeit, you put a stylish character design or flashy fighting style in front of me, and I will put in the blood, sweat, and tears necessary to make that fighter work for me. I'm shallow like that.
      About you and charge characters (I'll shut up after this, don't worry): I can almost guarantee you that if you're willing to invest at least 20 cumulative hours into playing as them, using them will become second nature for you.
      Don't focus on winning, just focus on learning. Pick one of them and start with the fundamentals (find an anti-air, a poke, a meaty, a blockstring, and a basic BnB that you almost can't mess up). Don't worry about optimizing for dmg, just learn the proper response to every common/recurring situation and drill them into your head and muscle memory. Learn where you're plus, and learn when your turn is over. Split your time between training mode and Versus against the CPU to break up the monotony.
      It will almost surely feel like an uphill endeavor but at the 20-hr mark (even as few as 20 mins/day for 2 months) you'll feel right at home with the timings and cancels necessary to put your average charge character to effective use. What comes after that is building on the solid foundation you've set with more focused, targeted practice.
      It sounds like a tall order but if you're playing the game anyway, you'd be surprised how quickly the hours begin stacking. Think of anything you've ever had to put more than the usual amount of effort into (anything that wasn't intuitive to you), yet gave up on. If you had stuck with it for a total of 20 hours, you would have learned it. The first 20 hours sets it all into motion.

      skillustrate I appreciate all your advice and knowledge. Unfortunately, I've stuck to Ryu/Vega since season 1 and played Vega in SF4 so after they took away charge from him I just never looked backed. I'll admit, I had fun back when I played Chun and landed her darn sbk bnb combo and got air legs down but I had legs also so I only ever charged for sbk. Kens neutral feelsbadman, I love having a strong neutral game and I find any character with a great anti air fun as it fills the void of aa Vega always left me. I also enjoyed Karin and her instant rekkas into ex dp I believe ? One of her corner combos, I love her animations also. Especially ex qcb k. sorry I'm blanking on skill names. I also tried Juri but after I saw that mod that adds purple to her kicks ( im on ps4 ) the white streaks just make her feel so incomplete. I know. I'm stupidly picky but I stuck with Vega since release and majority of sf4 so I kinda dug myself into a hole but I'm really wanting either to pick up a secondary or secondary Vega. I tried Kolin but I can't stand slow walk speeds. I'm always dashing and shimmying and playing like a mad man movement wise. She does have her command dashes and her animations are cool I just cant seem to enjoy playing her for some reason so as of now, I'm holding out for future chars ( hopefully one stops my mid life character crisis lol ) or I might just find any character with decent walk speed and good dp to aa cus I love aa but I can't seem to do it effectively with Vega.

      SKITTLESJ023 I totally prefer the new and (IMO) improved Vega to the old one, hands down. But I do understand anyone who feels he's an entirely different character, because he pretty much is. He's more different now than Ken is from Ryu, which is saying something.
      I love a good anti-air myself. That's probably why I'm so vocal about their lack of presence in SFV. Concerning Vega's, I'm still not used to applying ASE (I'm assuming this is the one you're having trouble with) in that manner and, honestly, I'd rather not rely on it. Getting the timing and spacing right as often as people like to jump in on you just isn't realistic to me, especially since it covers the angle that requires your more immediate reaction time. So I definitely would recommend jump-back LK, jump-back MK, airthrow until you get aa ASE down pat.

    Any other game i main Ken and fav him over Ryu...but Ken is absolute shit in this game no crazy kicks nerfs left and right and his critical art lacks kill power! I always find myself getting my ass handed to me from a tremendous comeback just cause his critical can't finish the job...so disappointed
    Btw season 3, his shinryuken, *A FUCKING ANTI AIR* isn't an anti air. Wtf Capcom? Why is Ken getting shitted on??

    The problem with Street Fighter V is that they forgot to make it fun to play, its almost boring. All these buffs/nerfs aren't going to make the game any more fun.

    25 points added to Akuma's HP will not make him the strongest shoto. Even humoring the idea is ridiculous. If Akuma got buffs like a faster walk speed, increased range on both cr and stMK then I can see him being the best shoto.

      Yeah.More than 25 is a buff to me. The "you take less damage" argument doesn't mean much especially if you're losing. Anything more than a light attack will still kill you.
