    I suspect the worx uses an energy management chip that ramps up the current to the motor and therefore neuters below a certain battery, on purpose, to protect the battery/tool. Hence the spool up on a DC motor... the mass can get there almost as fast as they want, the power is definitely being metered, which is interesting.

    I could totally see the Avid Power as something that just never leaves my small home garage where we mostly break down parts cars to support our racing habit. You don't need finesse but you often need a 36" wobble extension with an 18mm deep on it for those top bellhousing bolts (yes, both FWD and RWD this seems all to common). A single battery would not matter either as you have the daily driver impact right there you use for you personal car that uses the color you chose 22 years ago before it was lime green.

    Hey just had a big brain thought, not related to this video but idk how far back you read comments.
    They make adjustable box wrenches. If you cranked one of those down super tight on the nut do you think it would achieve more torque than a quality 6-point box wrench (or spline) before rounding the nut?
    Could it be used instead of a spline to remove partially rounded nuts? What if you were to also cut serrations into the "jaws". The Craftsman ones that are most popular it seems have a knurled knob for adjustment, what if you modified it for a bit more leverage and really got some gripping force on that nut.

    Please remember that hammer mass doesn’t TECHNICALLY matter. Moment of inertia is truly what makes the difference so a lighter hammer with its mass held further from the axis of rotation could overall hit harder. Mass measurements are probably a good proxy for MoI in most cases, but not always. Would be SWEET if you got a test rig to better explain what going on under the hood!

    • @TorqueTestChannel
      @TorqueTestChannel  3 місяці тому +4

      True, but among tools with a similar diameter head it's about mass and speed, speed being peak hammer speed which is a function of spring size and motor. If the tools were dramatically different in hammer diameter, that would be a larger piece of the puzzle. Like the DCF961

    • @RetiredEE
      @RetiredEE 3 місяці тому

      @@TorqueTestChannelsince we're talking about mass moments of inertia of differing hammer assemblies, why not normalize them all to radius of gyration? We'd have something to compare, the chart would add an extra column, and manufacturers would have another metric for marketing to exploit 🙂

    Pretty impressive for Worx, I snagged a new Hercules ultra torque (1400ft model) shortly after the spring black Friday event this year. It was either $94 or $110 but either way a killer deal still with warranty for 5 years, especially since I already had the batteries & chargers. I wonder where that would fall in the chart at that price. For a weekend only use (more like 1x a month) I've been super happy with the Hercules offerings, thank you to this channel and the 1/4 driver review a few years back. Now have the driver, mid torque and high torque. wrenches.

  • @enlightenCA
    @enlightenCA 3 місяці тому +1

    I just can't justify paying over $150 for an impact, maybe if I was breaking loose extremely tight hardware daily but for my purposes I am fine with using a breaker bar in the rare case that my 150ftlb driver cant handle it. And as far as working on passenger vehicles 9 times out of 10 if it wont break loose with the 150ftlb driver its likely going to break off the fastener anyway and at least when breaking loose the fastener by hand I can have a feel for when the stud/bolt is going to snap. If I just went full beans with a 750ftlb driver I would probably spend most of my time drilling and tapping. I do like that one smart Milwaukee that allows you to set the torque at different specs. Maybe when the price of that one goes down or if Amazon comes out with a viable knockoff I will purchase one of those. Love the channel! Can't wait to buy some merch on the next drop.

    Interesting that even after milwaukee puts out a new latest and greatest 2967, that a lot of the bargain companies are still competing with the 2767. To me that'd be like if Kia in the early 2000's had specifically decided to make a car to go toe to toe with the ford escort after they started selling the focus.

    Think that's smart of works to put battery on backwards because Milwaukees batteries fall off in that direction when in use after heavy use and I think there on to something because front end is getting most of the vibrations due to socket begin on front

      I find it interesting to hear people having trouble with Milwaukee batteries. Enough people talk about it that it must be a thing, but none of my (many) Milwaukees have ever had a battery issue. Worst thing I can say is I find the M12 bats hard to put in/take out sometimes. Do I just do something different with mine? Did I just "get a good one(s)"? idk

    Love these videos. Big fan. I’m a mechanical engineering student and I have a suggestion for the channel in terms of setup. I think that it might be possible to quantify the wrist breaking score empirically.
    It might be possible to attach an accelerometer to the impact wrench or possibly the tester’s hand with a strap. You can use the acceleration data to determine the force experienced at that point. I suspect it’s the rate of change of acceleration, jerk, that would match up best with your wrist breaking score. Since the jerk would be positive and negative, you could square the values across the board and take the area under the curve across the time of the test. It wouldn’t be an accurate measurement of force at the wrist, but would probably give a good impression of the differences between the tools.
