will this test work for both ect ? how do you know which ect you need to test? for example i want to test the ect that controls gas/air ratio, so which of the 2 ect do i test
Good educational video, now I know how the ECT sensor works, no matter the criticisms, the objective is to learn how things work, how it already depends on each one
Safer bet to stick the clips into the socket & measure the voltage OFF load. Ought to be around 5 Volts. Then check resistance of the sensor itself. Around 2500 Ohms at room temperature.
Umm you do realize that there’s a resistor in line that doesn’t allow it to damage the ecu dont you? Or were you sleeping in class when they covered that part?
Riiiight. Cuz this applies to every year, make, and model car ever made. Why do the video if you’re gonna overlook (and not fix) that part of it? Like turning in your college exams without your name on them.
I'm haveing this trouble with my 1.8tfsi can you help me When I start to drive the responce is good but soon as I take my foot of the gass it almost kangaroos I turn the car off and back on and it's fine the temp is bang on and fans kick in but I've done alot of servicing and sensor chages so far and dont wanna change out another sensor and it's not that meny thanks
In my case.. In captiva 2010 obd was showing coolant temperature issue( p0118).there was black smoke, ac was not working, no present temperature was shown in dashboard, engine was getting rise on starting for 2-3seconds, and engine fault sign was shown on cluster. And every time engine cooling fan was ON. Fault was wire was unplugged of temperature sensor after plugging problem was solved. So the position of that sensor was top of engine side near some big hosepipe. Hope this will help for others.
Its a thermistor ? variable resistor with temp, how do you measure voltage from an open cct thermistor ? You sure its not a thermocouple ? that would explain an open circuit voltage. I bought a new one and no open cct voltage. That means u need to measure resistance on open circuit thermistor and not voltage.
Hi thanks for the advice very useful its a shame so many people just want to moan I am going to check mine now it may be the problem and you have to change complete thermostat unit in my motor so well helpful to know this check first Be mello Garry
@@paulbester7097 I replaced the single wire sensor and now my temp gauge works. Now, on to finding the two wire so my electric cooling fan will work. :-0)
Thanks for the help but I think the least of this cars worries is the ECT hahaha foreal thou thank you I'm not a mechanic and don't have the money for one.
I agree, I dont have a good scanner and I have to go to the dealer to check sensor. The guy I am going to works on most of the 370Z's in my county. We will see.
This is great, but next time you make a video, how bout YOU narrating it. AI voices are VERY annoying, especially when we're trying to focus on what YOU are doing.

the gentoo avi really makes this comment work

Bad advise. Exposed paper clips connected like this can easily cause a short to the ground and fries the ECU inputs.
I know right, instead of just getting needle tip multimeter probes and inserting them in there
Sometimes you got to use what you got bro, just be careful 😂

Hard to understand the audible voice on the video,
And don't understand why you would use this audible system anyway !!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
so its safe to unplug the coolant temp eensor for a few mins while engine is running right?
Will this cause your temp gauge not to work properly
Yes, and overheat?
Turn on a.c..it will start the fans..but
Im no mech..to get u
Back home.yikes

For the single terminal sensor, what will be the voltage when the wire is not connected to the sensor?
I have a dodge 2017 journey and cant find 2nd one
Every time the narrator said clips it sounded more like Clits so it was hard to pay attention! Eekkkk!

Depends on ntc or ptc.

hi is it dangerous to leave a ect sensor tip that has broken off & is in the coolent passages somewhere or is it ok!
It could get caught in the water pump. I would flush the fluid.
No fixing tips?

Muted and read the subs... Anyway thanks...
Great I love it
Please do not do that
I have a code p0172 on my Echo 2004. Car run way too rich and bkack smoke at the exhaust. Car stops often what should I do ?
@@m.morininvestor9920 clean the mass air flow sensor or map sensor.... Black smoke would mean it's burning oil

What if the sensor has only ONE WIRE?
That is for the temp gauge , there has to be another one

Don’t do it. Just get a new sensor.
Computer voice 🤬
Fantastic thanks

Zzzzzzzzzzztttt. Fried when they touched. Now ya change it anyway.
not clear
I’m not going to do that on my BMW !!

If you think sensor is bad just change it, there cheap.
Not all easily accessible tho, especially on the Ford 3.5s so it's best to make sure what I'm replacing is actually broken.

thumbs down... I don't do channels/videos that use computer generated voices!
Sometimes the person’s English isn’t good. So they use a computer voice
