  • Hello Art-family!
This is a sped up version of a gouache demo I did for a class recently. I always love painting stuff around the kitchen because of the variety of surface materials to explore and study.
    Thanks for watching!
    UPDATE ON COLLAB:
The painting is supposed to arrive today. I'll post about it on instagram and on the community here to keep everyone in the loop. In the meantime, I've been working on my idea.
    Happy sketching,
    Jared

I love to see you carving out those shapes with a big brush. So satisfying!

Boy I had my doubts at first when I saw the pink. But I stayed in for the duration and was nicely rewarded.

Thank you for watching. I like to draw with pink. I don't have a technical or philosphical reason why. haha I just like it. I like how it pops through the cracks here and there. I tend to paint quite dull focusing on the value so it helps me to start with really high key colors.

This is so cool, love the big shapes and reflections. Whenever I see my kitchen I talk myself out of painting it, but I should give it a try.

Got for it! Just pick a thing- like a mixer or something. I usually like to just get a couple ingredients together. Like flour and some peaches and butter or something that would be used to make something and go with that.

I am really new to wet media, but if you can tell me why you do like an underlayer of paint ( like the light blue ) and then cover it? I understand for watercolors since they are not as opaque as gouache (?). Like i said, i am really new at this.

Hi Marcos. Happy to answer.. There are a couple reasons but to clarify... That is a technique that I use you may find others that do not. I know plenty of people that just go direct to color. My reasons for underpainting are: 1. It gives me a first try at the drawing. I use warm and cool colors to map out the big shapes of what I'm looking at so that drawing it is a little more easy and accurate. 2. It gets rid of the white so that if I don't put shapes perfectly together or overlapping there won't be little white cracks between them. Instead it will be covered in an undercurrent of color that works through the whole image. 3. In my experience, I find gouache just sticks better to gouache. I use a lot of water up front to just stain the page and put a light pigment layer down. Then all subsequent layers use little to no water but the gouache layers well as long as you don't have too much water in it. Look up the oil painting techniques for "alla prima" painting. That is where I have borrowed a lot of my choices and style from.
