This was actually the first time I’ve watched you paint. I love how you paint. I’m 63 and disabled. I am learning to paint as a way for me to try to focus on something instead of my continuous pain. I had a traumatic brain injury which basically ended my career as a special education teacher. I tutor for free and try to bring art into my tutoring. My students find this a pleasurable experience and love coming to tutoring. Many of them paint/draw so much better than I can ever do. I plan on using your video to inspire our next painting session.

I am so glad to see a content-creator on UA-cam to offer pointers on still-life painting. This is a fine-art skill that has fallen to the wayside and a subject matter that gouache lends itself to. Your advice, in your soft-spoken manner, is on par with a course in fine-art painting.
    Excellent demonstration.

Thanks for the valuable lessons! I'm transitioning from watercolor painting to gouache and I'm having a hard time. I'll apply your advice and use less water. sinagy that process was something i lifted from oil painters and came to love it. It prevents me from getting to detailed too fast. If you watch a demo where I draw with pencil you can see I often WAY over draw the scene. I can get lost. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video and the giveaway. I am new to gouache, so a set like this will help me play around with colour. I paint with watercolour mostly, and painting with gouache is like learning to speak another language. But I am hanging in there! I like the idea of the underpainting. It is a good idea to close those little gaps and, in this case, give a bit of warmth to the painting. Will have to try it next time I paint with gouache. Thanks again

These are the paints I am using as I daily explore the medium. As a watercolorist, everything about gouache is challenging. Since I have not tried another brand, I do wonder if Graham’s would do what I keep trying unsuccessfully to do. I’m assuming it’s beginner’s learning curve. 😆 I’ll see if I can get some 🍅 to glow like yours. Shared on FB.
