Hello: it's a year later and I hope you see this comment. This is exactly the kind of video painters want; to watch as someone works through a simple composition and narrates their decisions. UA-cam is stuffed with painting tutorials, but THIS is the best kind, and too rare. Subscribed just now, and really hope you fire it back up again and let us watch you paint. No editing needed, just record your process and upload. Will be watching --
Thank you so much for your kind comments, support and encouragement!
I love these types of paintings
8 dislike ?!!!
Why!!!
Such beautiful art work
Thank you very much for your kind comment :)
How I love it when it looks so effortlessly done! Your work is gorgeous. Now, I must go back to the drawing board.
I never would have looked at that plate and thought, ‘hmm that would make a great painting’ and I would have been dead wrong. This is a beautiful still life. I like how you started with a watercolor pencil to mark your shadows, I’ll have to try that. I have a hard time mixing colors to make shadows warmer or cooler, so this was a great look into how to do it and how to look at it. Thank you for the lovely video.
Love seeing how other artists use gouache, this is great! :D
Beautiful demo. Loved seeing how you block the value in. Beautiful image- the strong red and turquoise. Your voice over was really great too. Thanks!
Thank you Jared! Sorry I'm a little late in replying :) I appreciate your feedback and love your work!
Carol, this is terrific! Thank you for discussing your color mixes and the why behind your choices. Very helpful!
I don’t know your plans, but I’d love to see more! (Subscribing, just in case😉). 🎨🖌👍
so beautiful, i love this kind of look in a painting where you can see some brushwork but its also loose and lets the mind finish it, thank you for sharing! lots of love
Thank you very much!

Hey Carol! Love this video. Could I ask what flat brushes you use? Thanks! Josie
👏👏👏
I just ordered a set of gouache paints
I'm hoping that I will pick up your painting techniques by osmosis maybe! I don't seem to be able to lose my horrible watercolor habit of blend blend blending. Yummy painting.
Merci (:
Hi! I really love how you painting this. It really inspires me. And this video was really good.
I'm wondering though, do you wait till the paint dries before working on the next layer?
This was really good - really enjoyed this video! Great job! Have you tried Flashe paint? I love it even more than gouache - it's flat like gouache but it's permanent like acrylic - it has a nice vintage poster look.
Thank you Sandi! I've heard of Flashe but not used it. I remember that one of my favorite mural artists, Graham Rust, used it for his murals. Have been using Holbein Acryla Gouache a lot lately and am enjoying it :)
Just wonderful to watch and learn .. new subscriber here :-)
Thanks for subscribing, I'll be uploading more soon :)
Caran d’Ache (karandash) means literally a pencil in Russian lol. Nice painting!
Hi! Thank you for the video! I love the colours and overall composition of it!
May I ask why did you choose tp sketch with colour pencil? I have seen so many artists do it, but dont really understand the practice.
Thank you again! Subscribed 🧡
Hi there! I've been using a watercolor pencil so it will be easier for the lines to blend in or disappear when I go over them with paint. Thanks for watching!
I loved the video and it was very helpful to understand the process of setting the color values.
My question is, how do you know that you are not overworking the colors?
I guess that comes with the experience and with the level of detail you want to have in the painting.
Thanks for sharing! :)
I think with gouache it's important to try to have your values correct before applying to avoid overworking. It's challenging but gets a little easier with lots of planning, practice and experimentation. Thank you :)
I absolutely adore this painting! It was especially interesting to watch because I want to know how this style is created. Did you sometimes use a damp brush without paint to blend colors on the painting?
Hi there, thanks for your comments and sorry for the delay in responding to your question. With Acrylagouache you don't have much time to blend with a damp brush before it dries; it's more like acrylic paint in that respect. I just try my best to mix the correct color and value, laying the color down without blending. Hope this answers your question, thanks for watching!
@@CarolPascaleStudio Oh, so that was acryla gouache :) Well, then you did even more excellent job, the colors and values are more than correct, they are wonderful! The result is amazing. Thank you so much!
@@basenkaua Oops sorry I just realized no it was not Acrylagouache, it was of course traditional gouache. Mixed up with another painting sorry :| but yes I would use a damp brush at times to soften carefully as it may pull up when you don't want it to.
How do you get your Gouache to look so opaque?? Whenever I use it, it always looks like a slightly thicker watercolor😗
Maybe youre adding too much water? If that's not the case maybe because of the brand/quality of the gouache itself? I use Himi/Miya gouache and they're thick and opaque
I wanna eat
What paper do you suggest?
I'm working on 100% cotton Fabriano Artistico hot press for this piece.
What brand of gouache do you use
In this video I'm using M. Graham and Winsor Newton :)
Good morning for the first time. I really like your painting. I stay for longer. Maybe you'll see my painting. You may also like it? Greetings from Poland :)
The tomato had a darker shadow that would have helped make it come out better
