- I was conducting a 1A Audit on the Dutchess County Jail located in Poughkeepsie, NY. As I was filming from the public sidewalk a correctional officer arrived and blocks the sidewalk insisting I "move on" ...then because I told him he's breaking the law not me he said I'm "looking for trouble. The CO calls deputy sheriffs to the scene who in my opinion honored their oath. I have been dealing with a lot of tryants lately so it's a good change of pace. I’ll be honest with you even as an auditor myself, just based on the way those two road deputies conducted themselves I would’ve at least shared my first name, that was a hell of a good interaction with both of them.

About a month ago, I had a bad interaction with Brookhaven Public Safety Officer Hayden(white hair, bad attitude). I had the nerve to want to go inside and pay my property taxes in person. He demanded I fill out the medical questions on the tablet, I was about to till I saw it asked me for my *name, *phone number, * email. I attempted to explain that I wasn't comfortable linking my medical info to my name and # in order to simply enter a building, since I have no idea where this info is being stored. I even agreed to answer the medical questions verbally, I had a mask on.......... Officer Hayden became such a jerk, after a 20 second back and forth on how it doesn't make sense, he just says he doesn't make the rules, he tells me to use the "drop box out side or fill out the tablet questions.... or get out". He tells me I am not listening and gets rude. I told him he was being rude and unprofessional. Another citizen commented that it was all Gov. Cuomo's fault and agreed with me how rediculous it was to be stopped at the door. It turns out I probably could have pushed the issue and asked to have the tax collector meet me in the lobby if they are not letting me in, but I slunk away, and dropped my hard earned money into the drop box, so they can pay jerks like Public Safety Officer Hayden and close a public building for NO REASON. Walmart and Target have 1000 times the people visiting and they let you walk in and talk to the manager face to face, but government wants to hide.... Crazy
They take it as an affront when you tell them to stay safe. That tells you their mental state about you as a citizen.

That was actually good question that cop should ask. Next should be did you visit your friends, relatives? We don't have to answer them, but those are more valid questions from police point and interaction investigation point than stupid ones what's your name, what are you doing, why are you doing because the answers are obvious with his actions, he has camera so it's obvious that he's recording. And he's recording because he bought camera.
The correct answer would of been "I'm here visiting your husband" then a chuckle

A persons reactions to the directives if done right can tell you alot about someone and potentially thier motivation. But there are those who give directives to get information and those that just want to be obeyed.
Anytime officers approach you for any reason, it is not for a friendly conversation; they are not asking you: "hey beautiful day, how are the birds chirping today? Are you going fishing on this beautiful day"? Officers main objective is to identify you as soon as possible to mitigate danger, and remove you from that property if you do not know your constitutional rights. These two officers were disingenuous, particularly the female officer, acting as if she was trying to engage in an innocent conversation without an agenda. Instead of engaging in fake small talk with these officers, just be direct with them; and force them to get to the point of why they are engaging..... Citizens need to understand this: anytime an officer approach you, he or she is not inquiring about the smell of your fragrance or the type of shirt you wearing... LOL
they're kindly telling him things while he's harassing them to stay off the sidewalk....people do anything for views smh. Props to the officers for tolerating this fool.

It's just weird that someone would tell a citizen that they need permission to film publicly funded facilities from a public area. Maybe they'd be respected more if they lied to the public less. Just stop lying constantly and things might get better.

Many police have to lie because they are living a double life meaning that they emphasize statutes over the Constitution and Common Law. The justification is we are just following orders and doing our jobs. The police even if they are tasked by their department to violate the Constitution by enforcing and upholding Constitutionally impermissible statutes that are NULL AND VOID. The Nazis said at the Nuremberg trials said that they were just following orders and just doing their jobs. Police must only follow lawful orders and perform lawful tasks and nothing more.

Hey, love what you do and how you do it. You are always super polite and kind, unless they earn something else due to their behavior. No matter how bad things might get, you always keep a logic head, and anyone watching can see that you judge each person and interaction with an open mind, and you seem happy with positive outcomes, you don't go trying to cause trouble/problems like some auditors, nor do you let bad interactions with some officers influence how you behave towards the next officer you meet. Think you are the best one out there, thank you for what you do

I’m just now seeing this video for the first time. I live rather close to Poughkeepsie, and it makes me feel good to see a snapshot of law enforcement in the capacity of their duties, knowing the law and not trying to simply impose their will like tyrants can sometimes do. I think at the end of the day, all we want to see is very uneventful and compliant videos, I’m sure that’s a long way off, but it’s very nice to see something relatively benign interaction wise. Your professionalism and mannerism is what really makes these videos, you give what you get, and it really puts the icing on the cake regarding good interactions versus poor interactions. They basically dig their own hole when it goes wrong, you maintain your stance but in a respectful way. You’re the best Sean 🏆

I would really like to see you commend the good Officers a bit more. These two were exceptionally good. They asked some prelim questions, were cordial, non-combative and very pleasant. They obviously know the las and did there job. Give them some decent praise. It will only help you in the end.

Jails are for ppl “found to be guilty” ( I put it in quotes because people have been exonerated and found to be wrongfully convicted) and ppl waiting to be found guilty or innocent.
Perhaps you should check out some videos of Norwegian prisons, for instance "Prison inmate: We get puppies, ice cream and flowers" and "Norway's Humane Prisons (Maximum Security Halden Prison)"
A+ to those two deputies. They handled the situation professionally and gathering some information for their investigation without being belligerent. That was very kind of you to go along with some of their questions as well. Once again, another stellar audit on your part.

This is extremely valuable work. As he's exposing a serve lack of professionalism, knowledge of the law & an extremely aggressive/confrontational behaviour on the part of public servants. Is it any wonder that so many interactions with law enforcement any fatally.

If he chooses to park blocking the sidewalk, you have 2 options. 1) endanger yourself by walking in the roadway to go around the van. 2) trespass onto their property by walking around the van by going behind it.
Pretty disgusting that he just felt he had to block the sidewalk. His ego wouldn’t let him do the decent thing and back up a mere 4 feet.
