Been to Phi Phi 9 times. (Usually stay 3 nights) Im a solo traveller, 48. I don’t do the night life (in bed by 9-10pm) I love this little island.
Great thing to see to see them relay those yellow brick roads! You’ll go out for lunch, and the roads bricks will be all pulled up. By the time you’re returning from lunch, they’ve finished the road! 😂 fascinating watching them, they’re laid in sand, not concrete so they can redo them anytime! Very skilful!
Fav thing for me is always watching the sunset on the beach, heavenly ❤
Not been since Nov 2019. Enjoyed seeing it again.
I first visited Koh Phi Phi in 2002. It was absolutely beautiful then & my husband & I returned every year for many years. We made many thai friends & really enjoyed the relaxed way of life. We were never into a mad night life, just good food & conversation. In my opinion, the changes that have occurred in the years since have destroyed all that was amazing about the island.
It makes me so sad to see what it has become 😢
Same feeling here but I found a solution: koh lipe.
I occasionally watch Sweet Life Lanta with Maayan and Mon-loving couple with devotion to their Mili and Manu /B$B business/cooking classes with charisma Mon.
"No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." - I've learned this lesson recently. How true it is.
You just sent me down the fabulous rabbit hole of Heraclitus. Thanks.
Like all the Islands In Thailand, all pretty stunning and beautiful. It was a long time ago I was there. Changed massively. Too Commercial now, unfortunately. But still, beautiful beaches and scenery.
How untouched it was in 91. Only a few sheds and a few places to eat.
I was first on phi phi in 2019, and only the police had motorbikes then. Back there, about 10 days ago and there were quite a few about, mainly on the night. And yeah, I thought the same as you to who were riding them.
Ps was on Surin Beach around 2 weeks back... we must have just missed each other.
Load up daily with greens/cruciferous/1-3 fruits/beans less animal protein and dairy (go for soy or almond milk unsweetened….your health will be preserved. Shaving off your beard or keeping it suave looking will shave off the old age look since you are only in your mid 30’s.
Koh Lanta was hit with the unforgettable Tsunami in 2004.
Thailand is blessed with many beautiful beaches and with the attractive currency exchange rate tourism and expats flock there.
Fell in love with Phi Phi years ago, thank you for sharing Ryan. It has changed but still beautiful ❤
I liked the walk around in the Morning time, nobody ever does that, so you did something original there, I liked your perspective on the Island, the way you filmed it, is different from everyone else.
Always interesting and entertaining, beautiful beach absolutely stunning.
Change (you or the venue) is progress loaded with pros and cons. That’s life.
Omg thanks Ryan give me Koh Chang any day
Amen Terry!
Was there a year after the tsunami, was very quiet and peaceful. Maybe I was blessed to visit when it was in it’s recovery. Beautiful place and don’t recall any of the busy walk ways. Just the beaches, the sun, food and drink and the shallow bay.
Ibizia Bar…….clowns!!!!!
Loved PhiPhi.. been there last year for a few days and haven't noticed any sevage problem that time. Freedom bar is the best place to enjoy the fire show every evening.. we got so drunk we almost downed on the way back to our hotel on the other side of the beach as there was suddenly a lot of water haha... sadly, Maya bay was closed and we only sailed around it on a private boat tour.. we were not allowed to get on it.
19:13 Ouch watching from Koh Samui. 😅
Love seeing you hit up the islands. Looking forward to seeing Koh Lanta. I've met a few people (expats and Thias) that really enjoy it compared to the other large islands of Thailand. You should swing by Samui for a couple days after though if you haven't already headed home.
I love phiphi. Not super keen on that beach compared to any of north/east coast but still a nice place to chill at fpr a few days. There are some super nice chill hotels up the hill top also for peace and quiet if theres too many tourists around
Thanks mate! I really miss Phi Phi - I need to get back soon!
I am really so blessed to have found your channels!
This is such a blast, man!
People like you, who think deep and do not bs around, who crate a prosperous and virtuous community, and provide wisdom and value to the world - DO MOTIVATE ME SO MUCH!
p.s.: Atm I'm selling all and all in Sofia Bulgaria, will land at CNX The North Side, Highland Thailand!
Thanks for joining the journey 🙏😁
GREAT footage buddy! (Luke)
Cheers matey!
I was there 2 weeks ago
Love the island
thanks
My favorite place in Thailand. I miss Phi phi. Thank you for sharing brother. Any other island in Thailand where no cars or motorbikes can be rented by tourists?
Ryan, thank you for showing the Island - I was last there in 2003 ! - Only to be expected but god how its changed (iMO it looks hellish now !) I didn't recognise anything ! - the quiet rural life for me, in Phen - it'll do for me.
I ve been there July 2006 - best place on earth - chilly days / bit life music and party in the evening… later I heard in 2008 the place wasn't what it used to be… loud and dirty- ibiza, mallorca party tourism spot
I'm in Koh Samui atm, staying near the pier after spending fee days in Koh Tao - snorkelling amazing and lovely chill vibes however could have done with a bit more buzz in evening but not too much - trying to find somewhere with the right balance. I have always dreamed of going Koh Samui for almost 15 years - I honestly don't know what the fuss is!?! I have just come back to my hotel near Nathon Pier from Lamai.. it was horrid!! Full of seedy massage parlours and bars. Food consisted of burgers, irish themes, Australian themes.. beach was ok.. no vibes, nothing for vegan / vegetarians on main stretch.. the fact this island is meant to be honeymoon paradise..how??! I'm going Chaweng beach to see if it's nicer tomorrow, if not I'm out of here! Planned Krabi for 3 nights, Phi phi for 2 to snorkel etc then phuket.. although what I'm hearing about phuket isn't thrilling me atm either. Having travelled the North before I much prefer Chiang Mai (shame about the smoke for long term options) and Kanchanaburi - love the vast amount of Thai food and Thai culture is abundant up there. Why do places change to suit westeners - just go to Europe or the Caribbean.. why go to Asia and still seek your old life? Makes no sense to me! Wish i had inckuded koh lanta on my itinerary. Safe travels guys xx
If you build a bar Ryan I will definitely come
I was here with a brittish girlfriend way back in the day 1999. It was absolute paradise n very basic n simple lifestyle as such... Absolutely over done by tourism. Its a shame but progress sometimes spoils a place for different reasons. Life has some ups n downs i suppose. God bless the thai people and everyone else 🙏 as well... Maya bay , wow that was gorgeous , probably still is...
I agree Stephen 👍
Jesus, what happened? I was there in -94....4 buildings on that narrow part on PhiPhi Don....now its packed =D
@thenakedguru , love koh lanta .
My favorite 👍🙏
💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙👍🏽💙
I know no-one cares, but Ko Phi Phi being part of the Hat Noppharat Thara - Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, it is forbidden to fly a drone there... Everybody does, but you get fined and your drone confiscated there...
I loved this format of video, Ryan! Reminds me a bit of @SideTripLife videos if you know him...
People (westerners) feel more comfortable in places that match their comfort zone. Oh a Starbucks, a burger joint, etc. I like this place I travelled 6000km to be at because I recognise it.
I agree with Damo. What's the point of these Westernised strips built upon a once beautiful land.
What you showed us in 2nd half of video could be anywhere in the world.
I will never get it. Why go half the way around the world just to go to the same places as back home. Lived in Thailand for 8 years never once did I think of going in one. You go there for the culture and live and eat like the locals
Some people don’t like Thai food. Msg everything loaded with oils and sugar not the best cuisine health wise
@@andrewwilson5722when you're living here it's nice to have a McDonald's once in a while. Eat like a local you say? Locals eat McDonald's on occasion, so I will too. I like both western food and Thai food
@@ctb1977 Me too, but we live here. My point is people spend their hard earned money to travel to another country, another culture, and waste their time in Starbucks. It's not only food, some do not venture beyond the shopping malls. That's not travelling, that's relocating for a week.
You can call it Mary Jane too!!!!
Enjoy your travel vlogs, we live about 1km from the Koh Lanta ferry, we built 2 Ayutthaya style wooden houses on about 4 Rai of land which we managed to get for 2•2 million baht. We are in Bangkok until Wednesday night, but if you want free accommodation after this date, including Yorkshire tea, and a free ride to Krabi Airport, just drop in, you will be very welcome.
Hey John, these blogs are backdated so I have already left but will let you know next time and thanks!
Place looks amazing . Might be to much party for me . The sewage gotta end up somewhere likely thst beautiful beach and ocean . Just saying . Everything for sale at the right price . Even people sad to say . Have fun😊
Weed, Mary Jane, ganja, reefer, herb....never heard cannabis called the devils lettuce! May steal that as I live in the devils lair! 555 Another nice vlog Ryan. Yes, the world is changing, and so are we all!
I assume the night isnt going to be much more busy as its not full moon is it? And peak seaon is over too
😎👍
I went to phi phi once I did not enjoy it at all my choice is Railey or other smaller islands
Phi Phi have changed, its completely destroyed..
You are totally wrong on the pricing in 7/11s, Ryan... water was at least 25% more than the mainland, and my favourite dewberry biscuits were 80% more. This can be expected when it all has to be ferried there and then portered by a barrow to the shops. So I hasten to say, if you need anything apart from food... try to buy before you go to Phi Phi.
My reference was only to chargers, battery packs and beer, and compared to the other shops in island
Phone charger at an electronic shop - 350
Phone charger at 7/11 - 189
Battery pack at local shop - 1300
Battery park 7/11 - 599
Beer was cheaper than surrounding shops and bars 👍
But I think you are right but before you come when you can
I have never understood why people (incl Thai businesses') have A/C set to like 24'C. WHY? You are eventually going to step out into 34'C! Just set it at 29'C to take the extreme heat out of the air. Setting it to 24'C is wasting power. Also most A/C are struggling to reach these temps.
That is what happens to most Thai islands no planning or infastructure just making money, fuck everything else, then when its totally ruined its going to be somebody else''s fault.
Pat cha ree bakery , thank me later ;)
Phi Phi, Sumui & Pagnan have all been ruined with over development in the past 20 years.
Such a shame.
