I have watched your wonderful videos for q u i t e some time now and, here is a video that - for me - epitomises and encapsulates your expertise as a fisherman.
There are SO many small - but oh! so important - moments where you demonstrate what a 'Master' you are at your craft. Little 'snippets' that almost 'throwaway' remarks that - if the viewer REALLY wants to learn from you - are so full of absolute nuggets of information about the craft you are so adept in demonstrating. A cracker of a video John. Thank you.

Well, you could not say you did not have a good day John. You went out looking for sharks & you got them. I lost count after 8 I think it was, but to watch you out there, anyone would think you were having fun & enjoying yourself. It's nice when things occasionally 'work to plan'. Well done, great video (but I must say that I would never go fishing for sharks, (too big for me to handle) as always with great, helpful commentary. Cheers, Don from South Aust.

One of the best fishing experiences I've ever had was the shark I never caught on Luce Bay, south-west Scotland. We'd had some tope and small shark when my rod tip nodded, sprung back straight as the line headed back to the boat. The rod pulled straight down at the side of the boat the tip in the water, the line snapped and I almost fell back into the boat. Almost immediately, the shark surfaced on the other side of the boat and fell back with a mighty splash. Two days later I made a personal best with a 290lb Porbeagle which almost made up for that, "we need a bigger boat moment"!

Great video, when I started fishing in 1972, I went out on my first ever boat trip from Blackpool we launched just North of the North Pier, the boat or dinghy was a 12 footer with a Seagull engine there were 3 of us. During the trip my friends rod started literally banging on the side of the boat the rod was made of bamboo as thick as a broom handle the hook reminded me of a meat hook used in a butcher shop, anyhow while he was playing the fish I commented to him and asked him why was the anchor rope at the back of the boat, he replied don't be daft it's always at the front don't forget I'd never boat fished before a few minutes went by and I said the ropes still at the back of the boat and were moving my mate just held the rod which was bent way over and looked around, kind of in shock and he said "it's bloody towing us" over ten minutes later the fish came off we never got to see it however when he retrieved his tackle the hook was nearly straight it was the most exciting time on a boat I've ever had. Watching you fish is amazing I actually feel as if I'm there with you so, many many thanks for taking us on your adventures and sharing your experiences with us, I loved every minute of the video. 👍👍👍

Hi John, lucky for me I started watching your videos just after getting hold of my first small boat. I've spent the last couple of years exploring the inshore waters of the north east coast line and have found that by using Fish Locker tactics I've been able to winkle out far more fish than I would have under my own steam (I even won a few quid in a boat fishing comp so 🍻). Your channel has been a great resource in learning about seamanship and I've been modifying my boat setup along the way ready for some solo offshore wreck fishing trips.
These last couple of weeks though the pollock fishing over the rough ground has been excellent and I've been having great sport using lures and light tackle. Whilst out the other evening, as I was playing a fish, a right lump of a creature completely breached and made a horizontal splash in the water less than half a mile off the shore. I only registered the shape and colour of the fish and couldn't be 100% but I reckon it was probably a porbeagle and I would say it was at least 6 feet long and well in excess of 250lb. Since that evening I have had that fish stuck in my head and I am putting together a rig to have a go for it. So far I have picked up a penn senator 6/0, a 50/80lb rod, and some 50lb mono. I will make up some shark traces as per your shark trace video and was planning on using a rubbing leader of 200lb mono (as i have some from making FL wrecking rigs!). Does this sound reasonable and could I ask what knot you would recommend for attaching the rubbing leader to the mainline? There is a lot of conflicting opinions out there regarding shark tackle it seems and it can get bewildering.
-It was good to see you putting Slippy Limpets onto some proper fish the other day. As you will know the fishing up in this part of the world can require a good amount of determination and I've watched Nathan putting in a lot of hours to get the best out of the fishing that's available. Blue sharks on light gear makes me think that trailing my boat 450 miles next year might be a good way to spend a summer holiday!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, the channel is a brilliant resource.
    Rob

I've just come back from Antigua. We were diving and shooting lion fish to feed the sharks. They definitely feed from scent, not sight. The fish is in front of them and they're spinning on the spot to find them. Great video, it's nice to have the privilege of them in British waters!

We had sat for some time when I stood up & just ‘happened’ to see this bloody submarine cruising through a wave, a damn big tiger shark. The boat is a 15ft 6in Stacer aluminium & I swear the head😊 was almost at the transom & it’s tail was virtually at the bow. He was after our fish in the fish bag & we just got that bag of fish out of the water just in time. 😮😂🛥️🎣🐟🦈🇦🇺

    Hello my friend.
We too have been running shark trips everyday.
    I'm wore out !
We have been catching and releasing Hammerheads both the Scalloped and Greater...Blacknose...Blacktip and Atlantic Sharpnose.
    Stay safe my friend.CHEERS !

Thats exceptional my friend. Do you ever tag any of them for NOAA?

    • @duanekennard3298
      @duanekennard3298 2 роки тому

@@TheFishLocker No...On a boat that I worked on for years we took the Florida Fish and Wildlife Scientist out once a week for 4 years catching tagging and also collecting Red Snapper after it was shut down on the East Coast of Florida in 2009 in an attempt to get REAL DATA to correct the false and fabricated data used to close down the fishery of this species. With data in hand we took it to and presented it to the Under Committee in Washington DC in hopes of getting it reopened.
They give us 2 or 3 days a year to keep one Red Snapper per person due to all our hard work.
As much as I hate to admit it but I am against any program that helps NOAA and here's why.
For the last 40 years they have used the data we gave them and in turn have used it to almost completely shut down entire fisheries.
I will be the first to agree that 50 years ago Red Snapper was overfished. But in 1991 when they implemented a 2 fish per person at a 20 inch minimum size limit.....that's all that was needed.
There was actually a plan in place by the NMFS and NOAA to attempt to close down a large part of the South Atlantic Ocean to any fishing from 3 to 200 miles out in order to create a 'Fish Sanctuary '.
Thank the good Lord this was never implemented.
The shark populations have come back in Biblical proportions when they banned that awful practice of shark finning.
However that was 30 years ago. Many species of sharks are now becoming overpopulated. They need to reevaluate there laws and open up some type of harvest on certain shark species.
Same goes for the Goliath groupers.
They once were brought to almost extinction back in the 70's from spearfishing. But with a closure of them 40 years ago the stocks have rebuilt to a nuisance level.
Well I could keep going but I think you understand my point.
      Cheers my friend

Shows how many are around now. French boats from Bell Isle used to fish them west of Guernsey years ago, blues wernt worth much but porgies made good money. We had a mako about two foot long on the pollack gear a few years back, he should be a big boy by now.

The lads over in Tassie sometimes use a milk crate with floats on it to hold the berley bag. If they have to drive off on a big Mako, they can unhitch the crate, and so the berley slick stays constant. Once the shark is in, they will they drive back over to the crate and hitch it back on a cleat. Worth a thought for ya.
