Sea Fishing UK - Fishing for Bass and Bream for food - Inshore Estuary Fishing | The Fish Locker
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 чер 2022
- Today the weather was not good. Strong winds prevented me from deep sea fishing so I decided to fish inshore in an estuary for tidal fish - Sea Bass and Sea Bream. Our stores of eating fish are in constant need of replenishment and Bass and Bream are delicious eating fish. I share the techniques and methods used, share my theories about fish behaviour and catch some wonderful fish. Every day at sea is a good day, but its better when it ends with some delicious fish to eat.
Here are links to some of the tackle that I used in this video. I hope it helps.

Here is the follow on video showing how to clean, prep and cook Bream. 😊👍🏻🐟🍽 - ua-cam.com/video/IthaRnqPgSE/v-deo.html
“I’m just happy to be out fishing” the king of quotes from anyone who fishes
Trying to explain that to anyone who doesn’t fish is impossible. 🤣
I love the way you talk to the fish;”have you calmed down now?” 😂
I have to talk to the fish, no-one listens to me at home. 🤣
Avid fisherman from Sydney, Australia. Loved the simplicity and how genuine this guy is. I guess it takes another fisherman to be able to detect the enthusiasm and love of fishing in this mild manner presenter. Liked and subscribed!
I am simply sharing what I love doing Dave. Simple and honest. 😊👍🏻🎣
Great videos. I lived in Cornwall for 38 years and enjoyed the fishing so much now living in west Wales and the fishing is also very good. You do a great job with the videos keep them coming. Cheers
Thank you very much.
Here I am again. Just got back from fishing and ready to watch another episode of the Fish Locker. I've been watching some of the older videos and will eventually catch up to your most recent video. Excellent work. The fact you are always smiling and happy is so wonderful and greatly appreciated. One of the best!
Our videos are simply sharing what we love doing, so naturally I am smiling. If there was ever a video of us watching TV soaps or writing reports for work you wouldn’t see me smiling so much. 😉🤣
@@TheFishLocker LOL!!! Isn't that the truth.
Was like a game to spot rod bending going on behind your back. Nice fish for a cook-up with Jim. Interesting facts about the bad weather and the tides and slack water. A joy to watch 🙂
Glad you enjoyed the video. 😊👍🏻
I know nothing about fishing. I try to pick up a bit from few guys on YT. But i still fail most of the times. It just helps me with my anxiety and depression being out there, even trying to fish. Something about fishing is very calming for me.
I am glad we can help to bring you some peace.
We’re watching this and a few of your older videos while camping at the gower. What more could we ask for! 🎣
Awesome. Have a wonderful time. 😊👍🏻
I've never wanted a boat until now. Love that fishing. What a great location too. Hats off to you Mr Locker now I'm off to think about a boat and how to catch bream.
Haha. Have a watch of our “buying a boat” videos and see if you still want one afterwards. 😉👍🏻
loving the video's keep them coming it helping me out with my mental health problems and you're video's always put a smile on my face
It’s the great outdoors, a lovely host and some relaxing hobbies.
We all need to take care of our mental health, if you can’t go fishing or drop lobster pots or have a beach cook up, _this_ is the perfect second best.
I hope you can find the time and the environment to go for a nice walk, sit by a riverside or something equally chill. 😁
I hope you are doing well Danny and take care. 😊
@@TheFishLocker I'm doing ok today been really tough day because had to put down a family pet down but thanks for asking
@@dannypalmer2526 - That’s a shame, I am sorry to hear that.
As always a joy to watch.
A canny mixed bag, and enough to keep you busy.
Thanks, stay safe.
Cheers Ian. 👍🏻
For species like bream that tend to cause injury with their spikes, perhaps you could make use of a sort of plastic or metal cradle shaped like a taco shell that you could more or less wedge a fish in while you disgorged the hook?
Maybe the Bream numbers have reached a level where they are scoffing more of the tiny Bass?
Bream aren’t predatory like that whilst they are still this small. They eat shellfish and worms
i really enjoy your videos, you create such a safe atmosphere and are so optimistic! i find comfort in watching your videos and seeing the love that radiates in your family. much love!!!
Thank you Kylie, we are simply sharing what we love doing. 😊🐟
These are my favourite types of videos. Great to see this as I have just purchased my own Sib to fish the same areas!
Good luck.
This is one of the best UA-cam channels out there. Be watching you for ages now. Your knowledge of the coastline is invaluable. Hope you release some books too that can be carried in person when Rock pooling. Keep up the good work
Thank you very much. I have considered the books a few times but sadly I just do not have the time. 😊🤷🏻♂️
@@TheFishLocker Buy the time my friend. I don’t think u realize the knowledge u have that should be shared! Most of us would buy the book in a heartbeat.
@@tonymurray814 I second that book idea.
Great session John, some quality fish. Keep up the good work, always appreciated.
Cheers Keith. 😊
I've never been fond for sea fishing but this bloke and his wife and kids are the perfect family.
Just love watching good people on UA-cam
We are simply sharing what we know and love doing Jody. Have a wonderful day and take care. 😊
Yet another great video for me to watch after 2 days straight at work, I love bream on light gear, and yes, the one that comes home is soooo tasty.cheers again John
Great fun arent they on lighter gear.
BRILLIANT again. Good to see only taking what you need. Awesome 😎
It’s the way I try to encourage people to be. 😊👍🏻
great video but then i think that of all your videos...i love how you explain everything(i'm not really a sea fisherman)and you're the only fisherman i "know" that predicts with about 95% accuracy what he has on the line. great channel John.
Thank you. With experience you get to know what some fish fight like. But every now and then one will come along and confuse you. Haha.
What a session. My mouth watered when you caught those beautiful bream. Bream is one of my favourite fish.
They are delicious aren't they. 😊👍🏻
Well done John, an excellent session by any standards.
Cracker is a session. 👍🏻🎣
Messing it up I am . Mcguigans wines are from the area I live in. Hunter Valley. Probably about 50 miles from where I live, we are on the coast.
We hope to visit there some day. 😊💙
Amazing day for you brother …. Love the different fish you catch and I said it before you have great info and tips for all us fish lovers
Thank you, I hope the videos help folks out. 😊👍🏻
Went the other night on the Teignmouth estuary and caught 2 little bass. Same rigs as you there...we caught 20 fish between 4 of us ...First time I'd been for over 2 years...Felt like a kid again, and enjoyed those 4 hrs more than ever...
Sure enjoy your videos as they keep my appetite for fishing as strong as ever ,even though I don't get out much at all.
Sounds like a great session. 😊👍🏻
Just one more cast.🤣🤣🤣. We've all been there. 👍
Haha. Always.
Really enjoyed this video, very informative. I learned a lot, thanks for the great content!
My pleasure. 😊👍🏻
Such a gentleman! Love watching your videos mate, class👏🏻
Thank you and have a great day. 😊
The bull huss, just like the dogfish, might be a nuisance, but they are a stunning looking beast!
Enjoy your dinner, John! Thanks for sharing your morning in paradise, living the dream, my friend!
They are a masterful design that’s for sure. 😊
Bream are lovely fish, to look at and lovely to eat
I agree Garrie.
A cracking day's sport, a bull huss is nearly one of your trademark dogfish! Enjoy your meal. Another thoroughly enjoyable video, thanks for sharing your day with us.
It is my pleasure Tony. 😊👍🏻
This is one of the best UA-cam channels out there
THANK YOU FOR YOUR FISHERY KNOWLEDGE AND THAT OF THE BRITISH SCENERY. ONE DAY I MAY BE BLESSED TO SEE THE LANDSCAPE FOR MYSELF WITH MY SON.
I hope you both have a wonderful time.
Cracking video as always John 👌🏻 really informative with baits and rigs which is much appreciated, I'm new to boat fishing and really enjoying it I'll be out this Saturday hoping for some bass and smoothhounds 🤞🏻🎣
Good luck mate. 👍🏻
Another great Fish Locker episode.
Thanks Richard. 👍🏻😉
Nice to see a change of scenery. I usually get dizzy watching your videos when you’re out at sea and the horizon is moving up and down behind you.
I like to supply a varied range of videos so there is something for everyone. 😊👍🏻
So many good fish on those areas....
I think you are a lucky fisherman.
Few fishers and a lot of space to catch virgin places with a lot of good fish!
Great!
Thank you Antonio. 👍🏻
Must of watched this and your back catalogue John and its better than anything on the tele...joy to watch. Cheers John 👍
That’s not saying much mate. TV is terrible. 🤣💩
@@TheFishLocker 😂 you're not wrong buddy. Keep up the good work though...😉
That was a great session, John….love the way you call the species by the fight.
Experience mate. Still every now and the one catches you out and behaves differently.
Fantastic morning's fishing John... I love Bream, and I'm sure those will taste amazing when you eat them...great video .
Bream are delicious. 😊👍🏻
Some fantastic bream, can’t wait for the cook up with Jim. Cheers John
It’s on the channel. 😉👍🏻
Great video John,really enjoyed it.😊☮️
Thank you. 😊🎣
Great video again as usual. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure Dan. 👍🏻
Another great vid John I'm down in Cornwall at the moment fishing the the camel for a week then off to weymouth for another week 👍 thank you for the time you put in making these videos
Good luck. 👍🏻🎣
Before I've moved to NZ as a young fella. I was lucky enough to fish all over the UK with epic memories. The Bream fish kind of look like a Snapper, especially with those teeth. The Bream fish must eat a lot of shellfish.
They are a lot like snapper.
bream fishing is the best plus of the best eating fish yet again great video x
Delicious fish aren’t they. 😊👍🏻
Another fine video, John. Lovely Giltheads.
Thanks mate. 😊
I’m in America just discovered your channel and I’m “hooked” lol really enjoy everything I’ve watched!
Welcome to our channel Emily. I hope you enjoy working your way through our videos and if you have any questions just leave me a comment and I’ll try and get back to you. Have a great day. 😊👍🏻
A wonderful way to end my Queens Platinum Jubilee John. Thank you! Enjoy that bream with the family! My Best Wishes to all of you.
GSOQ. 💙🇬🇧
Don't know why but i loved the calmness of the estuary:). Great session!
I get that 100%
Awesome video thank you! Thinking of buying the Penn conflict for inshore spinning for bass and sea trout. Its seams like a lovely rod on your video, interesting to hear you like it. All the best 💚
I do recommend them. We put links in the video descriptions to the tackle we use. 👍🏻
I didn't know Gilt-head bream was also living in the UK costs. The Gilt-head bream is one of the most delicious & popular fish in Aegean sea, though my favourite is blue fish and dentex. The taste of the same fish differs in the UK than the Aegean & Mediterranean sea as I tried (maybe because of the different salt levels). Flounder, sea bass, horse mackerel and mackerel are the ones I got the chance to taste. I am looking forward to catch one of these :)
Thank you for your videos. They are great and are like documentaries about the UK sea life & fishing. I and my 7 years old son are looking forward to see your new videos everyday :)
Happy to subscribe, watch and learn from this talented gentleman.
Thank you and welcome to our channel. 😊👍🏻🐟
These days I do my fishing virtual. Mostly watching you.
Whatever you need to do to get your fishing fix. 😉🎣
Nice session John with some cracking fish. What a fight those guilt head Bream are on light gear. Nice Bully to finish. Jim will be happy with you ;-) Take care and all the best.
Great fun on light gear arent they. 😊👍🏻
Liking the inshore video. I’m always impressed that you never seem to keep all the fish/shellfish that you are legally allowed to. Definitely nice to see.
If you keep everything, there will come a time where you aren’t left with anything. I believe the key to conservation and fishing is to be selective and balanced in what you do and take.
Another wicked day out fishing man🤘🏼
Glad you could join me. 😊
What a beautiful area, background. Nice size catch, enjoy.
Stunning spot isn’t it. 😊🎣
Fantastic video mate !! Keep up the good work
Cheers Dave. 😊👍🏻
John great video as always!
Thanks mate.
Just awesome John - one of your best in my book! Beautiful estuary mark out of the wind & swell. Well done on the Giltheads (5 I think?) and even though the Huss weren't the target species, it was good to see a few coming over the side - it proves that the species and the environment are healthy. Wondering how much is Rag down your way? Some folks on the forums are saying it is going up faster then petrol! Regards to the family, & Jim when you take the Bream around - stay safe & well! 🎣🎣👍👍
Yes rag is always demanding a premium and the price only goes one way.
Well done, John, thanks.
Thank you.
Love the A Team as well.
😉👍🏻
belting day John, thank you Tel G
😉🐟🐟
Just picked up on this video, I was over in Greece when you did this. Another great variety of catch, incidentally as a kid we used to fish here frequently, the original Disney movie Treasure Island was using this area for location shooting, I remember it clearly..
That is interesting. I didn’t know that.
I haven't got a clue about fishing or understand a word of what you're saying when you're explaining the hooks, lines or lures, but I enjoy watching what you catch, and I love the catch and cook with your FIL.
Well I am glad you enjoy the videos even if you don't understand them. Cooking video coming up.
Best thing to do is go to a fishing tackle store on line or otherwise and look at the item descriptions. I am in Georgia, USA and John is a little hard to follow for me sometimes. Even the cc has issues with his "accent". I am and have been a fisherman all my life and while the expressed nomenclature is different the parts are the same. I do it some differently than John does but the point remains that catching any fish is easy if you are fishing where the fish are. I mean men fed their families using vine cord with bone hooks and woven stick baskets once ago. All the detailing about hooks, traces(leaders) and "methods" is to make the show.
Funny, I do not remember if he said anything about the braided duty line on his reels but I know he uses braid because of the sound it makes slipping through the rod eyes... essentially it all is preference and availability.
Hi John , another great video mate, Hope we get to see Jim work his magic on that bream . great tasting fish 👍🏼, your efforts are appreciated. stay safe🎣
Cooking videos coming up. 👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker nice 👍🏼😊
I come here to relax and it doesn't disappoint!
I am glad to hear it. 😊
Excellent session once again and always very informative - thank you John!
Glad you enjoyed the video. 😊👍🏻
You make it look easy mate great vid
Haha. Sadly it’s not so easy.
Nice one love it ...never used peeler crab as bait yet ...cheers for tips jhon ....awesome as always. .
Any time. 👍🏻
Very enjoyable video and some nice fish
Thank you Stephen. 😊👍🏻
Watching this reminds me of happy holidays in Malpas sitting on a jetty fishing for those lovely bream and grey mullet. Many a good bbq had that fortnight!
It’s a fine spot up there isn’t it. 😊🐟
Another cracking day there John
Gilthead bream are truly 1 of the best looking ,best fighting and best eating fish in out water wouldn't you say John..... must say the last 2 years I have 'Gilt fever' ..... we are very fortunate to live in the Gilthead capital of the UK mate 😉
Keep up the good work John 👏
Some cracking fish showing up and down the coast lately.
@@TheFishLocker yes mate it's looking good for the summer season John I'm out this weekend looking forward to it 👍
If I could get out on a boat I feel estuary fishing would be 1 of my favourite. I remember you doing a video a wile back in an estuary and I loved that video as well!!! Just seems so peaceful. Great video mate really enjoyed it. Take cear and tight lines 🎣🎣🎣🎣
It is a really enjoyable relaxing days fishing tucked away up the river like this. 😊
@@TheFishLocker yea defo mate!! Great way to spend the day! 🎣🎣
Nice fish 👍👍👍
Three thumbs up for you The Fish Locker ☺️
Thank you sir. 👍🏻🐟
@@TheFishLocker you're most welcome 😀
It's almost like the huss weren't happy to see you John lol....those bream are gorgeous looking fish!!
Haha. I can’t understand why they wouldn’t be happy to see me?
Just found 'Fish Locker'. Awesome host and presenter.
Thank you. 😊👍🏻
Very enjoyable to watch - we never use big hooks for Bream(half the size of the ones on this vid) and find squid strip the best - cuts out the schoolies.
Black bream have different mouths. These aren’t black bream.
I swear John. The more a fish tries to spike you or bite you or rub you with its sandpaper skin........ The softer spot you have for it and the bigger your smile. On the rough skin. I framed an old sword for a Royal Navy Officer and the handle was super rough and had real traction. He told me back-in-the-day it was an option to pay to have the handles covered with shark or Ray's skin so even with sweaty hands you'd not drop your weapon during ship-to-ship combat. Think he called it 'shagreen'
That is totally what I would opt for. Shark skin would be perfect. Like sandpaper!!
Cracking show as always
Love the info and action
👍👍👍😜🏴🦕🦄😁🤞✌
Thanks bud. 👍🏻
Cracking morning session. 🎣
Thank you. 😊
Spot on mt great video
Thank you.
Nice work John
Thank you Janine. 😊
In the med they use cheese to catch bream and they leave big rabbit like bite marks in it. It works well they like it...hold well on the hook as well! Edam cube with the hook pushed in. Serious!
Great vid as always!
Haha. That sounds hilarious.
Great video I miss catching Bass & Bream when I was over in jersey twice in school summer holidays many moons ago I hope young James & Hannah are well Jon 🐟🎣😎🙂
Great fun fish to catch aren’t they. 😊👍🏻🎣
@@TheFishLocker they sure were John been doing a lot of flyfishing lately 🐟🎣😎
Some cracking fish 🐟 🤙🍻
Thanks 👍
Really loved this ❤
I’m glad to hear it. 👍🏻
I Grew up on a river .
My best buddy & I would canoe the creek down to the river fishing the whole way...
Where the creeks dumped into the river tended to be a hot spot...
We had several species of catfish & they all went crazy over chicken liver..
But, they were sure to bite on a cluster of rag worms , red worms , night crawlers , ect.
Enjoyed the vid J..
Learning watercraft and where fish hold up is priceless isn’t it. 👍🏻🎣🐟
@@TheFishLocker
I learned later why the fishing was so good where the tributaries dumped into the river , but at 12/13 y/o I stumbled on to the fact...lol.
I was catching Yellow Perch & eating them before I knew what they were...
But at night we set up poles to fish on the bottom...
I learned the hard way to secure my poles..
Catfish in this particular river grew to 50/60 lb and my whole rig was pulled in more than once...
So, we bought the right rigging & started catching the big boys.
I never caught a 50 lb'er but several 20/25 lb cats.
I always released them even at a young age because they were'nt near as tasty as a 3 or 4 lb cat.
Deep fried catfish is still one of my favorites 30 yrs on.
Bream are just stunning fish! A bit tasty too!
Wonderful aren’t they. 😊👍🏻
Looks like youve got a nice dinner there mate.im moving to north somerset in 7 days time so im gonna get back 2 sea fishing all the time.great video john👍

Yes you are.
Good stuff John 👍 👏

Great mornings fishing, great mark as you had no doggies. 😂 Did make me smile when the last bullhuss tried its upmost to nibble you..
Aye that big one did try and have a munch didn’t he. 🤣
Great catch 👌🏻 🎣🐟😎👍🏻
Beauties weren’t they. 😊👍🏻
Fantastic session, gotta love them huss they can punish your gear and tare your skin, lovely bream catch too very nice 😀
