I feel Tesla should warn their customers for the default height and rear clearance distances of the Trunk during delivery, and how to set these upon parking it in the garage for the first time. I too had my trunk door scratched as it hit the raised garage door while open. It is a sad because my Acura RDX also parked in the same garage have lower heights and rear clearance for its trunk door, and I assumed wrongly that Tesla would as well.
Just in the process of ordering a Model 3 and having watched your video I am really pleased as it already answered some of the setting questions I was wondering about! Thank you! Keep up the good work
Excellent! So many useful things I did not know! We’ve had our Y 2 years. One thing about making changes in the car. Make sure you are in your personal profile mode if you want the changes to be effective each time you drive. I noticed in the video that you were in Easy Entry mode when you were demonstrating certain features. Unless you drive in Easy Entry mode, those changes will not take effect when you go to your personal profile.
I watch so much Tesla content and I’m halfway through the vid and already learned a couple new things. Not even a Tesla owner yet but it’s my dream car so hopefully soon! Thanks for the great content. Def subscribing 🙌
Instead of poking the screen, which I try to avoid while driving, you can hold the autopilot(right) stalk down for a second while autopilot(or cruise control) is active to switch to the current speed limit. It will also add or subtract the offset you have selected in the autopilot menu.
Do be aware though, that your car won't immediately change to this speed. If there's a law enforcement officer, he likely will catch your current speed and not this set speed. You'd have to hit your brakes to slow down quick enough to avoid a ticket.
Thank you for the great tips Mike!. Another useful tip is when in AP, and you need to adjust your "car following" distance, you can use the left scroll button left or right to adjust it. Pull to the left to increase this distance and to the right to reduce it. At higher speeds I found it more comfortable when I set this at the farthest settings and when traffic starts to slow down, I shorten this distance to minimize people cutting me off.
Thanks for the vid! Something helpful for Tesla Service Center is toggling voice command and saying “Bug report” whenever something doesn’t work in your Tesla. It’ll let them search through the lines of code to find where your potential problem is to troubleshoot!
Picked up a model Y yesterday , loads of others collecting , 1 had charge plug stuck , no idea how to help .. Concise to the point video , u got a Sub :)
Thanks for the info. Two additions/corrections. 1) Holding 2 scroll wheels doesn't reboot the car, it just reboots the screen. To reboot the car, you need to press the brake pedal and hold the scroll wheels at the same time. 2) Holding the parking button does exactly the same thing as tapping it. Holding the button while already in park will just reapply the brakes, hence the sound you hear. The only difference between holding and tapping is that the former puts the parking brake icon on your screen. Weird.
I heard from Tesla that holding the brake down with the scroll wheels doesn't do anything more then just the scroll wheels. Was a myth. I can never tell a difference so I just use the scroll wheels now like Tesla said.
Great video. For emergencies or if the door open button doesn’t work, there’s a manual release to open doors. It’s located on that area forward of the window buttons where it curves downward in a smooth wedge, between the door and the door handle. Place your fingers to grip the wedge and pull up. Door will open. Tesla will display a message saying manually opening doors might confuse or damage window or door sensors so do this only when needed.
It is an emergency door opener only, because it will destroy the rubberseal on the top of the window after a few uses! This is because the window don't go down an inch like it usually does when opening the door with the normal button.
Lots of good tips, but the one I'm most grateful for is how to release the charge port. I had already had a couple of scares when it didn't come out right away. Now I have a fail safe!
Mike, I’ve had my Tesla for about 6 weeks and have watched a lot of videos. The following were all NEWS to me. Charge port, lower auto pilot, navigate home fast and phone widget. Thanks very much!
So many helpful tips in this video. From the manual charge pot unlock to the Widget. I may need to watch this video again to remember everything. I also like the better theater option too… maaaaann. I’m excited to test the swipe gestures too. Thanks !
Thanks Mike. There is also a way to get into service mode (only recommend for small fixes, always use Tesla service center).Go to controls & hold the Model 3 down & type in service, then follow prompts you desire. I only used this to check the health of my 12V battery.
Something you didn’t include is the live sentry mode is only enabled if you pay for premium connectivity. Does not work without it even if you’re on WiFi sadly 😢
I do not have this live sentry mode feature in the app anymore either! I even asked the Tesla technician and he didn’t know. Idk why they took it away, it was so helpful.
You're a gold mine of information. Have had my Tesla a couple weeks and am learning so many easy, fun and very handy facts from you. Thanks, Mike! I'm a subscriber now!
Hi Mike. We just had our Model Y last June 26th. I’m fortunate to watch your video regarding 20 hidden Tesla features. Thank you so much and I learned a lot from them. I have a question. Can you schedule schedule to start charging at a certain battery percentage? For example, when it’s plugged in and it would only start to charge when it’s down to 20%. I appreciate it. Thanks!
Congrats on your new Model Y, and I’m thrilled to hear you found the video on hidden Tesla features helpful! 🎉🚗 Regarding your question about scheduling charging based on battery percentage: as of the last information available to me in January 2022, Tesla does allow scheduled charging but it’s based on time, not battery percentage. Unfortunately, as of now, there isn't a feature that allows the vehicle to automatically begin charging when it hits a certain battery percentage. Once plugged in, the vehicle will charge until it reaches the set charge limit and will maintain that level as long as it’s plugged in.
I’ve had my model 3 for 2 years now. I clicked on the video thinking to myself “Yeah I likely will know 19 of these but hopefully one of them is new”. Mate. Literally 12 of them I never knew about and were very helpful. Thank you so much for humbling me
A true hidden feature is that you have 5 shortcut icons / quick controls in the app and not just 4. Would highly recommend not having the large size widget unless you want to accidentally open doors etc when swiping on your Home Screen. I got an alert that my trunk had been left open, sentry mode even showed trunk seeming to open on its own. Turns out it was an accidental press on the widget.
Maybe put it on a second screen of your phone? Seems like it would still be faster than opening the app. I am going to try it so that I have a quicker access to opening the frunk for groceries.
@@trenacook228 There are videos on it. It is hard to get it. You have to go to the far right just enough to add them but not 'cancel' it. It is tricky.
Thanks mate, as a new tesla owner, this stuff was really useful. Just a suggestion; maybe don't shout but just talk normally because I have to reduce my volume to very low so it's not annoyingly loud. Look forward to more of your tips :-)
Damn, that AutoPilot dismiss is awesome. I hated grabbing the steering wheel since sometimes I would have to fight the wheel to get it to register, but it would cause me to turn into the next lane
Here are some hidden features I wish were there: 1. Synthetic 'drone view' of the car and its surrounds. Other manufacturers do this with far lesser cameras, so why not Tesla? 2. Forward looking flank view like the reversing camera view, but looking forward. Useful when maneuvering forward in tight spaces like parking or entering garage. 3. Interior view camera viewable from the app. Would be useful if you leave (older) kids or pets in the car. 4. Family keys without the ability to drive the car. Sync the kids phones so they can get in and out and work the entertainment and comfort systems, but cannot drive the car. (OK PIN to drive, but that is a pain for the legit drivers). 5. One-time Scheduled Departure. You can set a scheduled departure time so it tops off the charge and preconditions ready for that time. But you can only set this for every day or every weekday and have to remember to cancel it or it does it again next day. 6. A proper 'blended' driving mode. Like 'Hold' except it uses the friction brake if not enough force is available from regenerative braking. It should have a consistent acceleration/deceleration to peddle position mapping independent of battery charge state or slope of road. 7. Configurable 'distance tolerance' around speed limit changes for warnings. At the moment the limit changes instantaneously as the car passes the sign. Human drivers start to speed up when they see a sign increasing the limit but only start slowing down as they pass the sign reducing it. 8. An accelerator 'dead zone' around the current speed limit. This would be a less intrusive way to alert the driver to speed limit violations rather than a sounder.
These are all great, if you have Twitter tweet this to elon, he replys to lots of people and considers adding things to the tesla from feedback! You never know!
Great wishlist! I only want to have live am radio & keyknob to open trunk with one finger & without entering phones PW while holding bags with groceries in both hands.
Hey Mike. Great video. Learned a lot. I just got a model 3. I noticed your trunk interior had some sort of netting and black bags standing up. I love organization & seems like you do too, wondering if you would share what you put in there and also the the black square thing attached to the top left of your Tesla screen (assuming it’s a magnet to hold phone)
Exactly! The Tesla is basically a commuter on wheels. What do you do if you have a problem with your computer? You reset it. Do what he showed you and it will fix most problems. BUT keep your foot off the brake pedal (that will do a hard reboot).
I’ve been watching your videos and learning so much and thank you for everything you put out. I just ordered my 2023 Tesla Model Y and it should be ready for delivery April - June and I am learning so much just by watching your videos. Thank you thank you thank you.
Is it still needed if the Tesla is parked in our garage and connected to wifi? Our garage was broken into last year so having sentry mode in there would be pretty handy!
Nope! I just bought second hand Tesla model 3 dual motor, and i use hotspot on my old phone. Sentry is working, satellite image is working, traffic is working.
Yup, the noises are normal it’s apart of the battery conditioning and happens when you precondition the battery or just start charging. It was a bit concerning for me at first as well!

Instead of poking the screen, which I try to avoid while driving, you can hold the autopilot(right) stalk down for a second while autopilot(or cruise control) is active to switch to the current speed limit.
It will also add or subtract the offset you have selected in the autopilot menu.
Nice one thanks for this!
Do be aware though, that your car won't immediately change to this speed. If there's a law enforcement officer, he likely will catch your current speed and not this set speed. You'd have to hit your brakes to slow down quick enough to avoid a ticket.
I just do a quick flick of the right scroll wheel downward.
@@Pehz63 This. No reaction is faster than hitting the brakes.
We just bought a Tesla Y & I’m so excited. It was by accident I came across your video-WOW, great information and clear & well put! Thanks
You’re welcome, check out part two
Thank you for the great tips Mike!.
Great tip!
Thank you for a great video……. I have now subscribed and looking for future videos.
Thank you from Scotland
Add about 1 car length for ever 10 MPH of speed for the best feel. 1 car length for 10 MPH, 2 for 20, 3 for 30, etc.
This “ Guy” would drive me insane if I had to listen to him for any period of time. Thanks ” Guys” .
@cameronizatt3293 thanks for watching as long as you did guy!
Thanks for the vid! Something helpful for Tesla Service Center is toggling voice command and saying “Bug report” whenever something doesn’t work in your Tesla. It’ll let them search through the lines of code to find where your potential problem is to troubleshoot!
Great tip!
Also holding the car icon in the lower left corner will do a bug report. I have used it to report much phantom braking & misread speed limit signs.

Picked up a model Y yesterday , loads of others collecting , 1 had charge plug stuck , no idea how to help ..
Concise to the point video , u got a Sub :)
Glad I could help, congrats on the Y
Thanks for the info.
Two additions/corrections.
1) Holding 2 scroll wheels doesn't reboot the car, it just reboots the screen. To reboot the car, you need to press the brake pedal and hold the scroll wheels at the same time.
2) Holding the parking button does exactly the same thing as tapping it. Holding the button while already in park will just reapply the brakes, hence the sound you hear.
The only difference between holding and tapping is that the former puts the parking brake icon on your screen. Weird.
Thanks
Are you really sure about your no. 2)? Everybody I know, says exactly the same what Mike said about the parking break.
I heard from Tesla that holding the brake down with the scroll wheels doesn't do anything more then just the scroll wheels. Was a myth. I can never tell a difference so I just use the scroll wheels now like Tesla said.
🤔
Mike an excellent video simple and well presented. Everyday is a school day!
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying the content!
Getting my first Tesla tomorrow..you are awesome for making this ..keep em comming
Thanks, will do! Congrats btw!
👍🏾👌🏾
It is an emergency door opener only, because it will destroy the rubberseal on the top of the window after a few uses! This is because the window don't go down an inch like it usually does when opening the door with the normal button.
Lots of good tips, but the one I'm most grateful for is how to release the charge port. I had already had a couple of scares when it didn't come out right away. Now I have a fail safe!
Glad it helped!
Mike, I’ve had my Tesla for about 6 weeks and have watched a lot of videos. The following were all NEWS to me. Charge port, lower auto pilot, navigate home fast and phone widget. Thanks very much!
No problem, make sure to go watch part two which has 20 more tips!
So many helpful tips in this video. From the manual charge pot unlock to the Widget. I may need to watch this video again to remember everything. I also like the better theater option too… maaaaann. I’m excited to test the swipe gestures too. Thanks !
Haha have fun!
Right you are.
Thanks Mike. There is also a way to get into service mode (only recommend for small fixes, always use Tesla service center).Go to controls & hold the Model 3 down & type in service, then follow prompts you desire. I only used this to check the health of my 12V battery.
Thanks for this
@@MikeSeuss 👍🏽 let me know how it goes.
Mike, thanks for sharing your tips bro. I’m waiting on my delivery, and until then, trying to prepare myself for a smooth intro.
No problem, wishing you a great delivery
Yes, you say Guys over and over and over BUT you give great information and that trumps Guys. Keep doing what you're doing!
Thank you so much for this comment, much appreciated
Something you didn’t include is the live sentry mode is only enabled if you pay for premium connectivity. Does not work without it even if you’re on WiFi sadly 😢
Oh man, thanks for this comment, I should have disclosed this!
I have premium but I don’t have live mode!
Thank you! I'm glad to help!
Thanks!
Wow man good for you i got mines on 22 june 2023
Congrats on your new Model Y, and I’m thrilled to hear you found the video on hidden Tesla features helpful! 🎉🚗
Regarding your question about scheduling charging based on battery percentage: as of the last information available to me in January 2022, Tesla does allow scheduled charging but it’s based on time, not battery percentage.
Unfortunately, as of now, there isn't a feature that allows the vehicle to automatically begin charging when it hits a certain battery percentage. Once plugged in, the vehicle will charge until it reaches the set charge limit and will maintain that level as long as it’s plugged in.
While I knew about the majority of these feats, I didn't know about the "live sentry" capabilities. Very cool and informative vid!
😀
Live sentry mode requires premium connectivity
@@gamaned2904 Ah, and that's why I can't find the feature in my app. Drat.
How much does premium connectivity cost?
I just got my Tesla 3 days ago. Thank you so much for the tips. Can’t wait to try them on.
Hope you enjoy it!
I’ve had my model 3 for 2 years now. I clicked on the video thinking to myself “Yeah I likely will know 19 of these but hopefully one of them is new”.
Mate.
Literally 12 of them I never knew about and were very helpful. Thank you so much for humbling me
No problem, i also have a part two with 20 more!
Where's part 2 ???@@MikeSeuss
@tonykari5124 right here: ua-cam.com/video/vV4Laj1LFtw/v-deo.htmlsi=bCMlVWhEltggarm9
On the Tesla trunk height (which was awesome to learn) ya kinda left out how to reset it top go all the way back up if needed.
Sorry, you need to manually push it up and then use the button to set it
@MikeSeuss awesome thanks.
Been driving Teslas now for about 5 years. Learned a couple new things from your video. Thanks.
Great to hear!
Pure gold thanks bro 🙏💪
💪🏾
A true hidden feature is that you have 5 shortcut icons / quick controls in the app and not just 4. Would highly recommend not having the large size widget unless you want to accidentally open doors etc when swiping on your Home Screen. I got an alert that my trunk had been left open, sentry mode even showed trunk seeming to open on its own. Turns out it was an accidental press on the widget.
Yeah this is the best one ive found out after making this video, wish I knew this one beforehand!
Maybe put it on a second screen of your phone? Seems like it would still be faster than opening the app. I am going to try it so that I have a quicker access to opening the frunk for groceries.
Some people have added up to 8 shortcut icons. The best thing to do is rearrange them so you don't hit something that is critical accidentally.
@@sdelrosario1 goodness, how? I can't even get a fifth one added on my iphone 12 pro max. I've tried and tried.
@@trenacook228 There are videos on it. It is hard to get it. You have to go to the far right just enough to add them but not 'cancel' it. It is tricky.
New Tesla owner here and I found these tips soooo helpful! Thank you
Very welcome, make sure to check out part two!
Always helpful and thoughtful, Mr. Seuss.
Very welcome
Good stuff I didn't know. Thanks Mike.
I especially liked the trunk height adjustment.👍
👍🏾
How do you reset this to max height?
@EURKhan manually push the trunk to where you'd like it set then hold the button to set it
Thanks mate, as a new tesla owner, this stuff was really useful. Just a suggestion; maybe don't shout but just talk normally because I have to reduce my volume to very low so it's not annoyingly loud. Look forward to more of your tips :-)
Noted!
Damn, that AutoPilot dismiss is awesome. I hated grabbing the steering wheel since sometimes I would have to fight the wheel to get it to register, but it would cause me to turn into the next lane
Yup same here
I’m watching this video and I don’t even have a Tesla
You will!
@@MikeSeuss I’m not even old enough to drive but thx for the inspiration lol
Lol😂😂😂😂😂
New Tesla owner and late to the party but this was so super helpful. Thank you so much❤
Glad it helped! make sure to check out part two!
Here are some hidden features I wish were there:
Interior view camera is on the new software update under the pet/dog feature
Nice explanation of all these features, easy and efficient, great job man! 🤙🏻
👍🏾
Hey check out my Tesla Road Trip video, both of these are explained in that video and where to get them
Great video Mike. I really love how you do your videos. You're very clear, precise and to the point. Thanks. Keep up the good work.
Thank you
Exactly! The Tesla is basically a commuter on wheels. What do you do if you have a problem with your computer? You reset it. Do what he showed you and it will fix most problems. BUT keep your foot off the brake pedal (that will do a hard reboot).
👍🏾👌🏾
Great video Mike. Learn a lot. I have question. How do you unlock passenger and back door for folks to come in
Simply put the car in park and the back doors and passenger door will unlock
BROO AMAZING THANK YOU. GREAT VIDEO
You’re welcome glad you enjoyed it!
This has crappy Google ads that you can’t end and they’re mandatory!!
Welcome to UA-cam! There isn’t much I can do about that unfortunately
I never got one and I watched the entire video
I’ve been watching your videos and learning so much and thank you for everything you put out. I just ordered my 2023 Tesla Model Y and it should be ready for delivery April - June and I am learning so much just by watching your videos. Thank you thank you thank you.
Congrats! You’re very welcome
UPDATE TO TIP #1: PREMIUM CONNECTIVITY IS NEEDED FOR LIVE SENTRY MODE‼
Thanks Mike. *Great* list of helpful tips man! I had no idea!
Is it still needed if the Tesla is parked in our garage and connected to wifi? Our garage was broken into last year so having sentry mode in there would be pretty handy!
Exactly what I was about to ask. That’s the biggest bummer. I have free unlimited 5G data, and it’s sucks that I can’t just jam a SIM card in there.
Bump!
Nope! I just bought second hand Tesla model 3 dual motor, and i use hotspot on my old phone. Sentry is working, satellite image is working, traffic is working.
2:31 iam not dumb
??
helpful and personable. love the energy and attitude:) TY for the Parking Brake, charing port release, and turning off the AC especially:)
Thank you, glad to have helped!
Many wanna hide your plate. Just never know.
You're right, thank you
Some good points. I will now hate the word “guys” for the rest of my life.
Lol sorry
As I'm watching now I notice all the "guys" hahaha 😂
😂😂
So funny
Cmon my guy don't be that guy, guy!
I am picking up my Tesla in a few days. This was super helpful! Thanks
Welcome! Check out part two !
I didn't know it was possible to say guys 17,945 times in 20 minutes. Has to be a world record.
I Hope I get an award!
Good job on your videos, was wondering if you ever experienced the knocking noises when charging?
Yup, the noises are normal it’s apart of the battery conditioning and happens when you precondition the battery or just start charging. It was a bit concerning for me at first as well!
guys, guys, guys, guys, guys..........hello guys
You forgot something.. another “guys”
The reboot hack is sooo important. I had to use it several months ago and found the answer also on UA-cam. Great info
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this video!
But without premium connectivity you don’t have ‘live camera’, am I right?
Yes, correct
I really want to know where you got your head rest pillows .. Thanks Mike

Great concise tips. Thanks for sharing and using less jargon. Is there anyway of looking at the outside temperature on the screen?
Yes the tempature is always displayed at the top of the scren
