@@auginetic Yeah I worded it wrong, you got it right. I meant the longest possible time where you have no gameplay after choosing a move except pressing A.

Completely missing the point that pokemon really should be using chess timer rules to avoid situations like that where the better battler couldn't win through no fault of her own. Still not fixed, apparently.
Actually, VGC timer rules changed starting in 2017 to use a purely chess clock-style timer (called "Your Time"). It was I think near-universally agreed to be problematic for the game. A tournament can't just go on forever; individual games lasting forever can hold up entire rounds, and that's exactly what happened. Substitute Celesteela mirrors took over 50 minutes to resolve a single game. Dedicated stall strategies with Chansey + Guard Split cropped up which were generally disliked. Matches had to be resolved by outside intervention - judges had to manually calculate HP totals to determine a winner if Pokemon count was tied. After Gen 7, Pokemon switched to a modified system with a match timer combined with Your Time, which I think most competitive players think was the best choice.

I looked into this and Multi Battles definitely wouldn't be better. 4 Terastallizations won't make up for only being able to bring 3 Pokemon per player. This is bad because I am switching 4 Pokemon on each side, which I can't do in a Multi Battle because you can't switch with your teammate's Pokemon. I would lose a ton of switching opportunities, which is way more time than Terastallization would be. If you could bring 6 Pokemon per player, that'd be different.

Doesn't even get Metronome either for the theoretical edge! But even if it could be used, it would only work for one side. Using Stone Axe into Glimmora would set up Toxic Spikes on the *other* side, because the Glimmora has to be the one with Eject Button for Toxic Debris to activate. So the only real difference is five Pokemon would get poisoned once, and instead of Volcarona dying to rocks, I'd leave it with 1 HP and have it die to poison.

Since no one else seems to have done this- If I've done my math right, the total amount of time spent running down various clocks is 1 minute for choosing attacks, 6 minutes for the first set of eject pack loops, 6 minutes for the second set of eject pack loops, 1 minute for the Smeargle Moody eject pack, then 4 minutes for the end-of-turn switches, for a total of 18 minutes. So if you were only trying to maximize 'in-game' time, the 'fastest possible longest turn 1 possible' would be about 6:12. Realistically there are probably more optimal strategies than this if you're discounting timer stall, so you might be able to push it a little longer. Off the top of my head, you might be able to swap out two of the fodder pokemon (let's say the larvestas) for a Sand Stream Tyranitar and a Drought Torkoal. I *think* you could time switches so that while you 'lose' the time of two KO animations, you also add four weather changes and three instances of sandstorm damage.
Would using a ditto's imposter in place of the opposing smeargle (though negligible in time) be able to waste any more because it couldnt transform into the zoroark?
No, this actually would be a further optimization in place of the Smeargle with Eject Pack. Ditto would be matched across from the opposing Smeargle. Although the extra time taken to Imposter wouldn't count on turn 1, it would count when Ditto is being switched in and out by Eject Pack in the end of turn effects. Great thinking! It would mean the two "Smeargle" would be Speed tying, which would not be ideal for recording (I want to showcase the Eject Pack loops from the recorded side first), but it's also a pretty early reset so nothing too bad.
@KingTheLuck did a video explaining the longest possible turn on Pokemon Showdown about 6 months ago, which had a similar method to this, but also had extra long attacks, but that's based on the messages you get on showdown, but he seemed to have issues with eject pack not working correctly
I'm no coward! I'll sit through the eject pack loops and death loops to see the science. Seriously though, this is such a cool but of theory crafting. Ignoring the insane request of using metronome I wonder what other small optimizations could be made like throwing styles or specific pokeballs, I wonder if certain titles take longer too?
I fell asleep once during an online competition and exhausted the timer by mistake. I am pretty sure my opponent didn’t know what had happened and was wondering why I wasn’t doing anything at all. That’s what I get for trying to battle when it is time for bed.
Wait, why would I skip ahead when I'm just sitting here jamming to some awesome battle themes and remembering how much I love Nobuo Uematsu's work on the Final Fantasy Series. The man is like the Da Vince of video game music!
Hi DaWoblefet great video! This reminds me of a thought experiment I had recently. My idea was: could you get all 19 stellar Tera boosts from one Tera stellar Pokemon in one game? My theory is that you could have two teams of Smeargles, where each one is holding an Arceus type plate. The Tera Stellar Smeargle would know the moves Weather Ball, Terrain Pulse, Judgement, and Tera Blast, and all of the others would either be capable of setting up a weather, terrain, or trick their plate onto the tera'd Smeargle. Of course, for the finale, Smeargle would use the newest type - Tera Stellar Tera Blast. That is my theory, and if you really get the Tera boost from those kinds of moves then it is theoretically possible to get a Tera boost for all 19 types, my only question would be is that actually possible in game?
@@abashari5255 you wouldn't need such an elaborate setup. Any Pokemon with Metronome and Tera Blast could do it with enough time (give it a way to restore PP forever with Leppa). You could also use Copycat with a team of the other types without too much trouble.
@@RubytheFolf The metronome one would not work if you do it in a row but theoretically the copycat strat could use less setup and still allow you to use every Tera type move with no repeats.

@@DaWoblefet Guess your friend could record.
Big Stall™ taking notes furiously
I watched the whole video start to finish. I think this experience corrected something in my brain and I am capable of more patience than before.
This is absolutely insane, but a fun video! I cannot believe I watched all of this haha
POV: Pikasprey starts playing competitive pokemon
Big fan of these Pokémon thought experiments, even bigger fan of eject pack
This was actually very fun to watch!
@KingTheLuck did a video explaining the longest possible turn on Pokemon Showdown about 6 months ago, which had a similar method to this, but also had extra long attacks, but that's based on the messages you get on showdown, but he seemed to have issues with eject pack not working correctly
I've seen that video too, and it's pretty neat. I personally find it more interesting to try to do this off the gate from turn 1 myself.
Jokes on you, I DID watch both eject loops. I was listening to the music 🎶🎶
I wonder how much faster this exact setup would be if it was played back on a Pokemon Showdown replay
This is INSANE btw
This isn't just stalling... This is

next step is to mod the flipping game

@@KARLOSPCgamewith switch homebrew on the fly ram editing is possible but would be a massive pain to do for this
At first I thought I was misinterpreting the title but as soon as I got to the eject and 60 sec wait I understood
This round took so long I bet Slow Start would’ve worn off

You underestimate our power
Bro the majesty of Listen to the Cries of the Planet is complete heresy in this context
your pokemon was like oh NoNoNoNo, we're not getting our speed lowered, don’t even think about it girl
Please i was not expecting to see someone reference this meme 😭
I fell asleep once during an online competition and exhausted the timer by mistake. I am pretty sure my opponent didn’t know what had happened and was wondering why I wasn’t doing anything at all. That’s what I get for trying to battle when it is time for bed.
The longest turn 1 is inceneroar 7 star raid
It spent all that time using Intimidate and Snarl just to clear stats like 2 turns later lol
This is still not even a fragment of the time that 1 turn in a pokemon showdown free for all takes up
gamefreak: "Darn, guess we shoul of made picking a pokemon last 50 seconds."
Out of all videos UA-cam could reccomend to me for your channel, it ended up reccomending this one lol
I love it when the game lets us do stupid, stupid things like this. It brings me joy.
If this were a Yu-Gi-Oh tournament match, you'd get a match loss for slow play.
Wait, why would I skip ahead when I'm just sitting here jamming to some awesome battle themes and remembering how much I love Nobuo Uematsu's work on the Final Fantasy Series. The man is like the Da Vince of video game music!
this is just what I needed today
I was washing dishes amd my wet hands did not let me skip that eject pack loop. Enjoy the watch time, cool vid
when HoodlumCallum yells at his friends for not respecting the timer:
my man, I came here to watch the longest turn 1 possible. I'm not skipping
I have homework to do but I say i spent these 24 minutes well
Wake up babe, dawoblefet's messing with game mechanics again!
Idk why but the 3 minutes of “connecting” at the end is just perfect
Always love seeing this kind of thing being pushed to the absolute limits, awesome stuff
"Just one turn left and ill be gone"
I could feel the flow down when I first started scarlet, but this is another level.
@@DaWoblefetharvest and leppa berry would work
@@DaWoblefetthe setup would be needed if you wanted to get all the types with no repeats
@@RubytheFolf The metronome one would not work if you do it in a row but theoretically the copycat strat could use less setup and still allow you to use every Tera type move with no repeats.
