Agreed. But, point is it's more than a little presumptuous to suggest that $130K isn't alot of loot. More than a few people would likely disagree. To Jay it's money he'd find in his sofa cushions; not the balance of his viewing audience IMO.
explaining how much easier and faster the modern paddle shifter is means very little to someone who wants to actually drive the car themselves and develop skills easier isn't always better
The Audi guy says it's faster but is it really? Maybe between two race car drivers on a track but to a guy who buys this and can barely drive to start with it's just a convenience to not burn out clutches and stall it in traffic. To somebody who can drive it's a way more expensive and heavy and complex transmission that may get you a few milliseconds if you ever track it.
Brian Boni He said when manuals are offered as in both auto and manual. And when a car does offer both, its true that people dont buy them. Obviously manual only cars will sell if it's the only thing offered.
FSI: Fuel Stratified Injection. It's where fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber in a way that reserves power, but increasing efficiency by about 15%. It was made popular by Volkswagen, and their forced induction engines by means of turbocharging. That's where you get TFSI, which is the same with the addition of the word turbo.
I fell in love with cars since I was a 7 , I'm 42 now ,always watch Jay show and his you tube since before it had 50k subs, I drive 2000 Honda my first car I bought at 18 it got 280k with tape holding the window, still drive it to work can't afford anything for my self, but got a wonderful family ,I'm blessed . But I get to see all this great cars with Jay someone , that loves cars maybe more than me😆 never commented ever first time , wish I can sit in any of this cars , new or old , but at least I get to see them , look forward to next episode 🚘, the Audi guy🙄 oh boy never wanted to mute a guest.
I hate when car guys do that 😒 I get it. It won't hurt it. But it's a respect thing with me..I'm not a crazy, compulsive (have to treat the car like it's gold) but common sense is always appreciated
I think the NSX would sell better if it followed the lead of this Audi less complex less expensive and rear wheel drive . I would prefer the option of a manual transmission
This vlog was a good promo for the soon to be released C8 Corvette mid-engine normally aspirated car. Both are for drivers, not the shine and pose owners.
Anthony Gatley Crazy to think that over 20 years later the F1 is STILL the fastest car in his collection, and by a wide margin! There's a 16 cylinder Volkswagen with 4 turbos that was a few mph quicker (when it wasn't in the background of rap videos) but the F1 is still undisputed as the fastest all motor car on the planet. I'm dying to see what's going on with Jay's car!
Jay, I am amazed at your shop. I can say that your shop is better equipped than Cal Fire's for the fire bombers in Sacramento. Back in the day, we ran the radial engine power S-2s which were Navy carrier planes tasked to hunt Soviet submarines. It was always a thrill to run those Wright 1820s to 54 inches of manifold pressure. The noise and vibration shook the body's organs. The 1820s had the largest production pistons for radial engines.
This car reminds me of my turbocharged 4 speed manual 1964 Corvair Monza Spyder with the engine in the rear. It had very good startup traction (but no directional stability). Because of the drive train in the rear over the drive wheels.
You can see this dude is passionate about his job...The audi manager...he`s not there just to boast a couple of sentences but he really likes the damn car :D
You know about 15 years ago, I have a working prototype and sketch of a actuated exhaust that would go from sleeper mode (silent mode) to full (loud mode) and I'm glad to see that car manufacturer are doing "tunes" on the exhaust 👍 to bad I didn't patent it 🤷♂️, never thought it would be something that anyone would want... Oh well
Regarding the transmission, he said it, bragging rights. I personally don't care, Manuals are and will always be more fun. Leno said it best, modern cars are plenty fast.
So rite on the rear wheel drive but the Quattro setup is amazing especially back in the day the great thing was when it was on the fly so u had the best in both worlds i loved there 5 cylinder GT coupes in the mid 90s i could buy them at the auctions for around a grand and my first a 1990 90 Quattro it was perfect bbs wheels no one had intrest so i paid like $700 bucks and we had a crazy snow storm like a couple days later i already was into VWs but that car drove incredible in the snow and since that car ive been a fan i wish i could buy them that cheap now but atleast i got to experience them i love this rear wheel drive gotta be a drifters dream another great video thanks Jay
The $30k Audi charges for the R8 PLUS is nothing more than a tune. VF Engineering can do it. Takes engine from 532 to 600. Why would you ever spend that $30k?
They obviously could, but concerning whether they should, that's been answered by it not being offered. "Enthusiast" consumers often project that they want a stick, but when it comes to actual sales, the bluff is exposed.
“Today on Jay Leno’s Garage, another one of your dream cars that you’ll never be able to afford.” Thanks for the video Jay, love the series, gives me hope that one day I can own one of these cars. Could you please check out the RS7? I find them fascinating, or the Jetta that VW is taking to Bonneville.
so glad to hear Jay mention the gated shifter... i think that any R8 with a gated shifter will be a collectable... the shifter fell outta favor in lieu of the paddle shifter cause its faster... BUT! as Jay was gonna say... all these exotics are fast but the Shifter is an experience unlike any other. Not everyone who buys these cars are about “the numbers”. Future collectors Will want a gated shifter not a paddle shifter.
Jay .. I'm a big fan from Syria Thank you for everything you'r presenting. I got a small request .. please work on the sound in the garage .. it's a little bit low .. in cars on road it is ok.
I was really hoping Jay would send the back end sideways....not excessively, but just to see how she peels. I would imagine Jay has his fare share of fun off camera tho.. Great lil car!
I want that widebody one-off 600hp TTRS Audi built on this show. Looks slightly similar to this, especially how the hood and front sidepanels surround the headlight.
Such a good lookin' car. But way too expensive for my taste. Lol But sure does have a lot of horse power under that hood though, will give it that, at least.
Sounds great with the 9k rev limit. Tyler from Hoovie’s Garage recently gave a used R8 to his wife, but it doesn’t run. It will be interesting to see how much it costs for the Weezrd to fix it.
I grew up with my dad having a 1990 vert mustang that was red with white leather interior. The white leather held up really well and aged nicely. Il rebuild that car one day and show you.
Juan Villegas the car is marketed at enthusiasts with the rear wheel drive and being naturally aspirated. Give them a stick too and it will compete with GT3s of the world
dear Jay, missing the daylight taken shows, where there was life around, Bernard and the guys dropping by, the sombre atmosphere with mysterious lighting isnt so nice, i understand that noise from around and inside the garage are avoided, but it gives it a museum like setup that is so far from what your fabulous garage is in fact.love the show of course
Cuz they want you to buy the v10 plus and shame you for buying and inferior vehicle even though you can probably get a better exhaust and make it to 206.
Glad to hear Jay still sees 130K as " a lot of money".....
Not really. He realized after a microsecond or two that his viewers aren't likely as flush as he is.
Justin Snow it's actually a damn good deal
Agreed. But, point is it's more than a little presumptuous to suggest that $130K isn't alot of loot. More than a few people would likely disagree. To Jay it's money he'd find in his sofa cushions; not the balance of his viewing audience IMO.
Jay didn't grow up with a fortune, he still knows what things are worth.
and no children
explaining how much easier and faster the modern paddle shifter is means very little to someone who wants to actually drive the car themselves and develop skills easier isn't always better
Yh and a nice manual clutch
The R8 has always had an amazing sound and its probably one of the things I like the most about the R8.
What a guy Jelo Leno is.
I can tell why all the success. Such a pleasant personality. He’s awesome.
This channel is all about denim. The cars just some odd occurrence.
you got it right
Haha classic
Canadian Tuxedo
JUST GLAD JAY WOULD PROBABLY NEVER WEAR SHORTS HE'S TOO OLD AND HE'S GOT WAY TOO MUCH CLASS TO DO THAT
Peekabooboo ?
I love the guy’s reaction when Jay stepped on the gas the first time. 😆
Jay Leno lobbying for manual ,thank you Jay!
HE ALSO SAID IT'S SAFER FOR DRIVERS WHO AREN'T VERY GOOD. PRETTY LAME EXCUSE.
When manuals are offered people don't buy them. Those same people then piss and moan when the manual is no longer offered.
The last Porsche offered with only a manual transmission sold out in days and used ones are selling now for more than the list price of the new car.
Brian Boni He said when manuals are offered as in both auto and manual. And when a car does offer both, its true that people dont buy them. Obviously manual only cars will sell if it's the only thing offered.
6:34 “whats that stand for?”
“Thats our direct injection FSI”
“Oh FSI, okay”
Lol.
Lmao jay is a sniper
So what the heck does fsi stand for ? Lol
"Oh that's our Freaking Sick Injection"
Full Sequence Injection?
Love it when a performance car is N/A in a world where turbocharged cars are the norm
I love this R8, its a reliable V10, naturally aspirated, dual clutch and most importantly... RWD. This is a special car, really cool.
Did this car's designer play GOD of War while designing this car? I see the color inspiration. At least I hope.
I fell in love with cars since I was a 7 , I'm 42 now ,always watch Jay show and his you tube since before it had 50k subs, I drive 2000 Honda my first car I bought at 18 it got 280k with tape holding the window, still drive it to work can't afford anything for my self, but got a wonderful family ,I'm blessed . justnando33 #bestcomment
I feel you man. I’m 33 and the R8 has been my dream car since I saw the first one in Car and Driver magazine. Just a beautiful, sexy car
Jay, good video and I'm glad you brought up the manual trans, which would have made this RWD perfection.
Yes you can tell he was disappointed
Great dialog on the drive. This is why I love this channel, just great car talk from a realistic perspective even when applied to a supercar.
Personally, I feel "RWS" should Indicate rear-wheel-steer.
Tommy Amann Same
Best channel on youtube bar none. One day I will own an R8
james a they are great cars. I am never selling mine.
A8 or LC 500?
Drove the R8 RWS V10 Spyder a week in the Alps. Amazing car for such roads. Just turn the ESP off and go sideways every corner. Thanks!
Auditography nice I follow you on insta and subscribed to ur youtube
Imad Ghauri same here
I definitely MUST visit this Garage and shake hands with Leno the legend. Damned!
Every time Jay steps on it, the Audi guy looks real nervous 😂
I hate when car guys do that 😒 I get it. It won't hurt it. But it's a respect thing with me..I'm not a crazy, compulsive (have to treat the car like it's gold) but common sense is always appreciated
11:35 Why didn’t you press him
Where’s the manual gearbox?
finish the video
Jay always seems less enthusiastic when making videos on new cars.
It just never gets old - the classic denim look 💙
I think the NSX would sell better if it followed the lead of this Audi less complex less expensive and rear wheel drive . I would prefer the option of a manual transmission
Marc Scordato they blew it big time.
i like it when Jay talks about older cars and to their owners.
Jay,
Please ask this Mr. Audi to brings Wagons back to USA!!!!! S4 Avant, RS4 Avant, S6 Avants, RS6 Avants... AVANTSSSS
This vlog was a good promo for the soon to be released C8 Corvette mid-engine normally aspirated car. Both are for drivers, not the shine and pose owners.
Can we have another video on the McLaren F1? A good long video like you make nowadays
I hope so too. Been way too long since we've seen the F1.
I wonder if Jay will be buying or featuring the McLaren Senna.
John Cook he's got one that's over 23mph faster haha. That's the one I want to see
Anthony Gatley Crazy to think that over 20 years later the F1 is STILL the fastest car in his collection, and by a wide margin! There's a 16 cylinder Volkswagen with 4 turbos that was a few mph quicker (when it wasn't in the background of rap videos) but the F1 is still undisputed as the fastest all motor car on the planet. I'm dying to see what's going on with Jay's car!
*McLaren
Jay, I am amazed at your shop. I can say that your shop is better equipped than Cal Fire's for the fire bombers in Sacramento. Jay can tell the brakes are supplied by brembo by how they look. Marketing man does not know what a brembo is.
Yes, or been told not to use that name
This car reminds me of my turbocharged 4 speed manual 1964 Corvair Monza Spyder with the engine in the rear. It had very good startup traction (but no directional stability). Because of the drive train in the rear over the drive wheels.
Nice Jay! I like it because of it being naturally aspirated and the V10 too! That’s pretty badass!
The sound of a V12 will not be beat!
You can see this dude is passionate about his job...The audi manager...he`s not there just to boast a couple of sentences but he really likes the damn car :D
GHOST ,he does, I agree.
Oh well
I love audi
Met a guy with a gray one. Thing sounded like a beast! Definitely on the bucket list to drive.👍🏼
"So. . ."
I suppose its his job, but dude NEVER stops selling Audi. Really tiring. .
Agreed. "We" this and "we" that. He's not the company.
I think you mean to say is, he’s really sold on the product.
When that happens, you can’t help but to sell it to others.
He’s great
such a brutal car..gotta love the v10 r8s
Would love to see an Rx7 FD on the show.
smashlab119 Hoonigan
I work at Audi of N. Scottsdale, we rarely see these cars with any miles on them. Good cars and glad they brought a RWS option out!
Norm K. I’m in Tempe
Wanna talk about getting me one
David , I work in service but I can definitely get you in touch with one of our sales staff!
Norm K. I’ll just go down there myself
But thank you
You think I should get this?
David If you enjoy rear wheel power like the American muscle cars definitely check it out!
low volume as usual...fire audio guy
Art Vandelay mine's fine
mine's fine
Art Vandelay get over it
Audio's just fine here .... I SAID - AUDIO'S JUST FINE HERE
ganymedeIV4 If you call b&w 604 and nad 2200 budget...the low audio is a well known issue on Jays videos ok wisenheimer
I wish Jay would resurface his garage floor; those holes in the epoxy are driving me crazy!
Somehow Jays hair is more white with each episode.
Mike A due to age?
Coincidentally, he gets older every episode.
It's the shampoooo, Dude!
Jay, Ronco sells the
BeDazzler® and you could easily pop on rhinestones, diamonds & ruby's to your denims.
Damn ! that would look so cool !
@4:45... They are made by a supplier.... Oh you mean BREMBO????
Yeah i instantly disliked the guy from that part on ,still a good car not too keen on the stripe though
Ten Four Custom I think he said that to avoid admitting they were not Brembo.
they arent made by brembo my friend, the VAG group (volkswagen groupe) produces its own breaks for all their cars including bugatti porsche etc
I'm a life long Audi fan and i really love this car, even in white ; )
Lol jay is a savage.
Regarding the transmission, he said it, bragging rights.
I personally don't care, Manuals are and will always be more fun.
Leno said it best, modern cars are plenty fast.
Now if it was a 6 speed manual.. then it would be amazing.
7 speed would be better
They ditched those things called manual 😭👎
Then buy the first gen. Manuals are dead, people need to accept that
Nah... not dead! There will always be a demand for manual.
2007 Audi rs4.
I like the subtle NSX jab around the 12 min mark.
Sooo, how much speed does the red stripe add? :-)
-1 as in 200mph - 1
Still needs more dakka...
Depends on the red and how thick the stripe is. Every micron counts.
I'm guessing that the red stripe is EMBLEMatic to the car's redline.
horse power....it adds horse power
Nice car! It's about time they came out with a rear wheel drive. That guy from Audi has a nice Omega Seamaster chronograph watch
I think the Audi R8 and the Lambo Huracan are related...I'd much rather have the R8
They have the same V10.
R8 is a mediocre, lame style version. Looks too much like a tt.
Well Audi does own Lamborghini
@@IsurvivedAntiochCA, Audi does not own anything. Volkswagen owns both -Audinand- Audi and Lamborghini.
Jahim Uddin Never heard of Audinand, must be a boutique auto maker
So rite on the rear wheel drive but the Quattro setup is amazing especially back in the day the great thing was when it was on the fly so u had the best in both worlds i loved there 5 cylinder GT coupes in the mid 90s i could buy them at the auctions for around a grand and my first a 1990 90 Quattro it was perfect bbs wheels no one had intrest so i paid like $700 bucks and we had a crazy snow storm like a couple days later i already was into VWs but that car drove incredible in the snow and since that car ive been a fan i wish i could buy them that cheap now but atleast i got to experience them i love this rear wheel drive gotta be a drifters dream another great video thanks Jay
nicely done!
This was a very enjoyable episode. Great conversation in the car.
The $30k Audi charges for the R8 PLUS is nothing more than a tune. VF Engineering can do it. Takes engine from 532 to 600. Why would you ever spend that $30k?
The people that usually buy cars like this dont think about aftermarket tuning
eagleeye128 it also weighs 2000 more pounds lol.
Hingle McCringleberry Revo as well
Islanders83 with two turbos
people that tune will buy an old corvette and tune that instead anyways
OMG! The sound of that engine. Music. To install a radio in that car would be criminal.
They couldn't offer it with a manual gear box?
Eric Barnett ,why?
Because it's a normally aspirated , rear wheel drive, two seater. That just screams for a manual gearbox.
BECAUSE IT'S MORE FUN TO DRIVE PETE.
They obviously could, but concerning whether they should, that's been answered by it not being offered. "Enthusiast" consumers often project that they want a stick, but when it comes to actual sales, the bluff is exposed.
I would own one of those ( not white ) ... have driven a few Audi's, and they are a pure joy to drive, even older ones !
"Get in the car, BOY" - Kratos
“Today on Jay Leno’s Garage, another one of your dream cars that you’ll never be able to afford.” Thanks for the video Jay, love the series, gives me hope that one day I can own one of these cars. Could you please check out the RS7? I find them fascinating, or the Jetta that VW is taking to Bonneville.
Audi R8 "Kratos" 😆
Even with AWD they are treated like pampered garage queens, so they may as well be RWD, without dropping axles...great news!
Never mention BMW when you're with an Audi guy.
The dude cringed so hard 😂
Way to go Audi with the R8 RWD! Oh, and way to go Mr. Leno too. Wish I could drive one some day. Sunset Audi in Oregon look me up!
LMAO @12:05 😂😂😂
The Audi guy was kinda long winded and not exactly on the same page as Jay
Somebody PLEASE make that into a gif lol
Basically, there's nothing wrong with this very special automobile. Understated perfection.
Sure that's a nice car but Jay wearing denim again is nicer.
so glad to hear Jay mention the gated shifter... i think that any R8 with a gated shifter will be a collectable... the shifter fell outta favor in lieu of the paddle shifter cause its faster... BUT! as Jay was gonna say... all these exotics are fast but the Shifter is an experience unlike any other. Not everyone who buys these cars are about “the numbers”. Future collectors Will want a gated shifter not a paddle shifter.
The white lower blade really MEHs the car up.
Jay is the coolest car guy ever.
Ha, dude did not want to compliment the dude getting a new BMW story. 😩🧐.
Jay .. I'm a big fan from Syria
Thank you for everything you'r presenting.
I got a small request .. please work on the sound in the garage .. it's a little bit low .. in cars on road it is ok.
High revving V10? lemme get out my LFA
I was really hoping Jay would send the back end sideways....not excessively, but just to see how she peels. I would imagine Jay has his fare share of fun off camera tho.. Great lil car!
4:49 “made by a supplier” LOL. Just say it: made by Brembo.
they arent made by brembo my friend, the VAG group (volkswagen groupe) produces its own breaks for all their cars including bugatti porsche etc
G1 Smokescreen
*_DO NOT READ MY NAME_*
It’s a bargain
It’s the same engine in a Lamborghini Hurican.
You mean for your pocket lol
Imo it looks worse than the old one. Headlights seem be too small and the whole thing looks too cramped visually.
Sounds great with the 9k rev limit. Tyler from Hoovie’s Garage recently gave a used R8 to his wife, but it doesn’t run. It will be interesting to see how much it costs for the Weezrd to fix it.
Seriously, Audi couldn't fly over an engineer they had to use a local sales rep
Rick Deckard that Sales rep did an awesome job.
God bless him!
I grew up with my dad having a 1990 vert mustang that was red with white leather interior. The white leather held up really well and aged nicely. Il rebuild that car one day and show you.
Why not a stick?
Kaka KarrotCake wouldn’t sell, it’s that simple, it would be popular with enthusiasts no doubt, but the market these days wants more automatics.
Juan Villegas the car is marketed at enthusiasts with the rear wheel drive and being naturally aspirated. Give them a stick too and it will compete with GT3s of the world
Why you complain if you won't ever have the money for it
dear Jay, missing the daylight taken shows, where there was life around, Bernard and the guys dropping by, the sombre atmosphere with mysterious lighting isnt so nice, i understand that noise from around and inside the garage are avoided, but it gives it a museum like setup that is so far from what your fabulous garage is in fact.love the show of course
The R8 has become less attractive over the years...Still awesome though.
I agree rick. I fell in love with the first gen car with its 6 speed, v8, and that carbon side panel that is so hotly debated
the first r8 is so much nicer. the newer ones are so ugly
I have an opinion for you... its ugly. Fast, handles great, and looks like a turd on wheels. And I won't retract this statement.
Le Zramy ever heard of FREEDOM OF SPEECH?
The new ones look wayyy better wtf the old ones don’t look like super cars at all
The first generation was so much better looking. the curves made it look special
You can tell that this "product manager" really knows nothing about cars. All he does is repeat what Jay says...cringe to watch.
Rather have Quattro Sport instead of Audi Sport. Gimme the Inline 5
When Audi hires a Christian Von Koenigsegg look-alike to present their Halo car :-p
Juan Hernandez lol
R8 is my favorite car. Thanks so much for this video!
199 MPH why?
guardduck25 because you can drive that in Germany
Cuz they want you to buy the v10 plus and shame you for buying and inferior vehicle even though you can probably get a better exhaust and make it to 206.
Makes insurance cheaper🤷♂️
Because its a European car and we use km/hr and 199mph translates to 320km/hr which is a nice round number over here.
It’s 1000 bucks to tune it and get the extra ponies and mph.
Here in So Cal just do not need four wheel drive. They should build more of these. At this price will sell.
@4:11 lol. These marketing guys, nothing against them but sometimes you can tell they're not car guys.
I like it, the less flashy Huracan.
“I’m on a green gig” that made up for the rest of the salesman yawn fest... ;)
Ive got a mid engine manual. It’s a blast. Purposely didn’t get the PDK. I don’t care if it’s a couple tenths of a second faster.
Jeremy Clarkson once said "if you like the R8 go and get a Corvette"
Panos Coach that’s because jezza tested the first year R8 with the V8.
Lee Kent No my friend, the v10 ua-cam.com/video/g4CPBfpnye0/v-deo.html
Panos Coach I had forgotten about that film. Thank you for reminding me.
Panos Coach the c8 will destroy this thing at every trim level
Corvette? Lmao get American junk outta here plz..
No manual, no deal! Thanks for lobbying for manual transmissions Jay!
Agreed
The David Bowie R8 commercial was way better than this one.
Congratulations on being one of the first people to drive it Jay
