  • This video explains the theory behind how you bypass the passlock/passkey system on older chevy vehicles. I do not actually show how this is done since my lock cylinder needs replaced and I do not know the current resistance.

    "PROBLEM SOLVED" after days of trouble. SPRAYED CRC "Electronic Spray" ($3 at Walmart) into my "aging ignition." (Electronic spray will not hurt the "dusty old" ignition). Unbelievable! "1998" Chevy Cavalier 2.2L engine. Chevy wanted $300 for a reset. Had it towed several times and local mechanics tried everything. Found this $3 CRC spray solution in a forum. "Security light" kept coming on. Stalled in traffic. Had to wait to start again. Looked at all the "bypass solutions" and Amazon gadgets too. When it works for you remember to share and pay-it-forward.

    Sorry for reviving a dead thread, but would old this same method work on a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT 4D? My ignition cylinder was drilled out and it seems to be stuck I. Theft mode.

    do you measure the resistance between the yellow and black wire plugged in to steering wheel? or disconnect plug and measure? wont voltage be on it if it stays plugged in? so how do you read ohms correctly? thanks

    • @Coatchawa
      @Coatchawa 4 роки тому +5

      The steering wheel has nothing to do with this. Pull the ignition cylinder, cut the black wire and yellow wire. Put the key in the cylinder, and measure the ohms with a multimeter, from the black and yellow wire you cut, coming out of the lock cylinder. Then put a resistor that comes close to what you measured, between the other ends of the black and yellow wires.

  • @jodymadoche

    Still no resistance value hey? I think I get what you mean about the wire that goes back to the car, but it could mean either direction actually. And then you talk about cutting the black wire, but then splicing in a resistor in line, you said, but you didn’t mean in line with the black wire? Because you still need to connect it to the yellow wire, correct? It’s not clear. But by watching several of them, I’m able to figure it out.

    My key won't turn in ignition lock to replace the lock how do I get the key to turn or where do I find the pin that locks it

    • @cowboysbbq3572
      @cowboysbbq3572 6 років тому +1

      kevin heindl there's a release pin in the top of the column right above the lock cylinder.
      It's a hole you can put a punch in it, and with the key in the lock, turn it slightly to lock key into cylinder, and as you push down into the release hole with the punch, pull the cylinder out of the housing.

      there is a hole at the bottom or top of the steering plastic housing looks like a extra screw hole use a thin screw driver or a long like 10 penny nail to push the pin in while turning the ingnition switch towards the run postion then pull out wards while holding that ingnition should pop right out with little force of pulling with your fingers .

    I recently bought a 2006 cobalt SS it was previously a water car and didn’t have a key so I went to the dealership and got a key made and tried the 30 minute process to marry the key to the car but the security light will not go off. The door locks, radio, and sunroof also don’t work and also the steering is locked do to the security, I can start the car from under the hood with the crank relay fuse but will only run for a few seconds if anyone has any advice or knows how I can fix it I’d appreciate all the help I could get

    Your key doesn't have a chip in the key, so there's no resistance to measure.

    That is a non transponder vehicle. It shouldn't have anything to do with what your talking about in this situation.. not until 2006 I think impala didn't get a trans.

  • @225lock4
    @225lock4 6 років тому +1

    So now anyone can crank the Impala with a screwdriver? No tumblers and no anti-theft? Sounds like a bad idea. Btw, you don't program keys to '02 Impalas since there is no transponder in the key.

    • @C2H6Garage
      @C2H6Garage  6 років тому +2

      Yep anyone can use whatever to start it but still need a key or break something to get in the car. Also no the key does not need programmed but if you put a different padlock module in the ignition, you need to reprogram for the new resistance.

    • @jonjacobjingleheimerschmid3798

      Usually don't need to take out tumblers, just the addition of the resistor will allow unchipped keys to be used

      As for my colbolt I own now I had a couple of keys made for $2.50

    • @C2H6Garage
      @C2H6Garage  4 роки тому

      Yes resistor is required to get the correct voltage back to the ignition system. You can find them cheap online or maybe from an electrical supply warehouse

    • @s7uidz
      @s7uidz 3 роки тому

      ebay has them for 45 cents or 10 for 4.50

    • @s7uidz

      everytime the security goes off I tell her .45 cent fix just need that resistor. also I fixed my issue without the resistor by cleaning the contacts on the back of the ignition switch carbon builds up and causes a voltage drop is why the security goes off. I find it happens alot when it's humid outside.

    WTH, 1:35, I have an electronics design background and this is cloudy, poorly stated and contradictory ! how can a black-wire resistor be INLINE (in series) and yet BRIDGE to a yellow wire Einstein ? REDO and make sense and use CORRECT terminology ~~

    • @zigwald

      yeah i saw the same thing. t tap the black wire with the resistor. the other side to the yellow wire. then you have to reprogram the ecu.15-20 minutes with the key on.
