  • We're almost there! Scrapping all the metal we can find to pay for fixing up the car has been going great but it has led us to here: A pile of scrap metal to process down to maximize value! Will the metal we scrapped today put us over the line and ready to make those upgrades? Let's find out!
    Wire stripper I use: amzn.to/3sirg18
    The motorized stripper: amzn.to/3y0JMuQ
    The wire cutters I like: amzn.to/2T6j3OW
    The grips I recommend: amzn.to/2QCJmYl
    The melting furnace: amzn.to/3EGxT2q

    Kinda more excited to see you do your car repairs than do more scrapping. It's good seeing people's lives take steps forward. Same reason I like watching people build garages or add shelving units to them.

    There is something deep and philosophical hidden in what you said about, it doesn’t matter how you do it as long as the outcome is positive or many roads lead to the same destination or something like that. 🤪
    God bless 🙏🏼🇺🇸🇨🇦

    That was pretty efficient, dirty brass and all. Nice return for just pulling “trash” out of a dumpster. I mean, if you saw a $20 bill sitting in the trash, you’d definitely pick it up!

    Another good piece of advice use a chopsaw. You could put the motor with the windings face in the blade and just bring the salt down on top of it and it cut so much faster.

    My scrap yard is ok. They dont really differentiate between cast, extruded, stainless metals. My other options is driving to LA which is not worth the gas. But they also dont worry about stuff being seperated much either. I got 11 bucks for 2 grocery bags full of insulated wire, 2 break pads, and a bin full of steel. I feel it was ok. What say you guys? Im saving my aluminum and copper for really rainy days.

    Here in Edmonton, Canada, I'd take the bike wheel to Edm Bicycle Commuters. Many cities have similar non-profits helping people fix their bikes. It doesn't pay cash, but they give me their empty cans in exchange.

    I always scrap the hard drives down. If the scrap rate for the boards is bad in my area I check to see what sold comps on eBay is per pound. If nothing else I hold on to them as they are small and are easy to store. As for the rest of the hard drive.... high powered magnet, cast aluminum body, steel or aluminum piece of metal on the top. The platters get me some nickle value. Thought I will say I generally wait until I have a lot of drives. Also I save all of the screws. When I get a pound of them I sell those on eBay as well. That is here in the US, though.

    I think you should drill some holes into your vise stump to bolt on the wire stripper. That way you could use both the stripper and the vise without needing to change your set up.
    Also how are the truck repairs coming along?

    The hard drive logic boards are usually classified as the same quality as the finger boards. Taking a couple seconds to pull the boards and still getting dirty cast for them might add some more to the parts fund.

    I’m new to scrapping. Just getting into it, and I’m trying to learn as much as I can.
    Could I ask, why is the copper that you’re pulling out of the motors nr2 copper? It’s really clean, so I’m a bit confused. Is it because of the thickness of the copper?? Thanks in advance

    How do you know the difference between cast aluminum and regular aluminium

    • @thubprint
      @thubprint  Рік тому +3

      There’s actually quite a few different types of aluminium but for scrap it’s generally just cast, extruded, old and sometimes 6063. For the most part it’s just a visual inspection to inform the manufacturing process. Cast will have a more irregular surface texture and sometimes casting marks, but the best giveaway is it tends to be brittle and will break with a hammer

    • @darlatownsend952
      @darlatownsend952 Рік тому

      @@thubprint so cast aluminum Man will break with a hammer quite easily that I take it and regular aluminum doesn't quite break cuz I would mean and then I've heard of a duplex and that I know is supposed to be like high grade but I probably got regular grade for duplex aluminum because I didn't know the difference at the time it's stronger right believe that's where I come into trouble with cast aluminum and duplex aluminum

    • @thubprint
      @thubprint  Рік тому +2

      @@darlatownsend952 it’s not a perfect way to check, I don’t know how hard you swing a hammer lol. I haven’t heard of duplex but I think there’s a good chance you’re thinking of extruded aluminium. Aluminium extrusion is best recognized by its shape. I’ve got some good examples in my aluminium video!
