    @4:30, to my understanding, you don't HAVE to pick a specific encounter card when you are in a major city. You can always opt for a generic grey encounter card.

    I think you messed up the rules at 9:07. Once you move the Omen track, you move the doom token the number of spaces equal to the number of gates open with that colour (you do not spawn monster). Also when you have a monster surge and have no gates open with that colour, you have to open a new gate and spawn a monster there.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  10 років тому +2

      yeah, iirc I noticed I messed that up later and fixed it, though I forgot to go back and add a note about it! thanks for reminding me :)

    I love that the rule errors become more and more frequent toward the end, as though you - the player - are actually losing your sanity. This happens to me with the "Horror" games too. They should put it on the box as a feature.

    Hey Rahdo! I love the videos. I just wanted to mention something very minor. At roughly 45:00, Jen defeats the serpent people then you immediately go to the Mythos Phase. After defeating a monster on a space, the investigator may resolve another encounter. It's optional, so it wasn't actually a mistake. However, strategically she could have drawn and resolved a general Wilderness Encounter.

    Great extended gameplay!
    2 notes:
    At 36:44 you place a gate. Then at 37:07 you get confused and place a SECOND gate, which was wrong.
    At 44:55 you put the two clues you paid to put the monster on the card back into the DRAW pile rather than the DISCARD pile.
    Other than that, great extended gameplay! Looks like an amazing game, though I think Betrayal at House on the Hill is similar and a bit more diverse.

    • @OnnoS
      @OnnoS 10 років тому +1

      Oh also, you said you would put a note at 08:05 explaining that no monsters would appear on gates when moving the omen track, rather, it would increase the doom track.

    I'm pretty sure when a character dies you advance doom by one, so encountering him and retreating doom just counteracts that.
    Such a fun playthrough!

    I would consider putting 'spent' clues on the city itself, flipped to indicate it's no longer a clue, just so you have a decent visual of which cities won't have clues any longer.

    Hey Rhado just in case (from boardgamegeek):
    The only time you leave an encounter card in play is the ongoing rumor cards. All the other encounter cards are discarded after you attempt them. The clue tokens stay on the map until a research encounter or something else tells you to take them or discard them. The expedition token always goes to the next spot on the top of the expedition encounter deck regardless of the encounter result.

    Played my first complete non solo game last night it was a two player game and we got our butts kicked. On the first round I got a mythos that sent a monster to me and it attacked TWICE so I died on my first turn! After that it didn't get much better we didn't even solve the first mystery. It was Yog Sothoth and the mystery was you had to close a gate and turn in two spells. Our investigators had low observation and all the gate encounters needed observation or clues to be spent of which we had none! Ugh. Still had fun but we definitely learned that we have to up some specific stats before closing gates.

    Another minor nitpick. If a monster surge comes up and there are no open gates corresponding to the current omen, you would spawn a new gate instead.
    Now on to Final Thoughts to see if the rules get special mention, because I quickly learned to love the split into a detailed reference guide and the "superficial" rules to jump right in. So far I never found myself flipping back and forth through the rule book, looking for that one rule I belief to remember but are not quite sure where it was.

  • @ohbeone

    Great video and it has brought myself up to speed so I can lead a game tonight as it's been a few months and I've only played a couple times. As pointed out a couple of errors and one I'm not sure if it got mentioned but when you were talking about toughness of the serpent people in relation to solving the mystery you said it's toughness was three and you only need 1 more monster. The damage of the monster was 3 but toughness was only 2. So if you only had monsters with toughness of 1, you could still end up having to fight two more monsters and spend four more clue tokens. I know the terminology gets confusing and I had to check to make sure I do it correctly myself. :)

    • @PauloRenato23
      @PauloRenato23 10 років тому

      Could you give me the timestamp please?

    • @ohbeone
      @ohbeone 10 років тому

      Paulo Renato at 44:43. He says the toughness is three. It's damage us three, toughness is 2. Damage is the heart symbol because that is how much health it will drain you if you don't get any successes on your strength roll. The toughness is the number in the upper right on the token and that is how much health the monster has. So for the purposes of the mystery, they had to put monsters on it with toughness totalling 4.

    • @ohbeone
      @ohbeone 10 років тому

      That's a hard mystery having to spend two clue tokens for every monster.

      ohbeone There was already a note there and another soon after... don't know if they are enough since I've never seen this run, don't know the rules and haven't played this game

      @ohbeone 10 років тому

      Paulo Renato ohhh. I can't see the notes watching on my phone. :( I guess that's the problem haha. I was wondering cus he kept saying he'd add a note and I wouldn't see any. Well again great video. I'll check on my computer when I get a chance. This game is definitely way more fun when you don't have to keep checking the rules and after watching this video was the first time. It really flowed when I played it. Hoping to get a game in today!

    Hey quick question for anyone willing. I'm wondering if I'm correct about the progression here:
    So, say, Stage I of this particular ancient one card has 1 green, 2 orange, and 1 blue. When you draw a Mythos card they must correspond to those numbers. During the first Mythos phase rahdo drew a blue card, so in the second Mythos phase if he drew another blue card, that card would go back in and he would redraw until he got a green or orange card. Is this correct?

    Love your reviews. You are very fun to listen too, however I sometimes wish you would take it easy with the motion when directly in front of the camera lens, e.g. around 19:40 when you pull the Mi-go monster token out. You flash, swirl, and spin it all over the place in quick jerking motions that made me sea-sick :) Nice if you were going for the whole "Eldritch Horror" feel. lol Other than that your videos are awesome, educational, and entertaining :) Peace

      No, you must resolve the Monster(s) and if you succeed in eliminating said monster(s) you can then (optionally) encounter any other 1 token on the space, ie. other world, general encounter, clue, etc.

      The skill doesn't actually allow you to 'create' new clues, it allows you to spend one sanity in place of spending one clue. You could have had the astronomer fight the guy serpent people so he'd be the one spending the clues, but that's a different scenario.

    With some errors, you can not say that this game is easy, but, I can see why the gamers are saying it is easier than Arkham Horror.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  10 років тому

      Regarding toughness of the game, well we played it twice (both times the starter guy) and I'm not saying we breezed through, but both times we did win pretty readily (won before the doom clock counted down). It could have been due to errors, but when Jen and I play, our games aren't usually full of blunders, because when I'm really playing games, I'm very careful... I'm always triple checking the rules when it's not my turn to make sure everything is going correctly, and because Jen often takes so long to make her moves, I have ample opportunity to ensure everything is done correctly, and Jen is there so she's quick to catch when I read a 3 as a 2! So I doubt it was a ton of errors that led us to victory
      In both games, we did purposely have a character die by running him hard and not worrying about his safety (like I did in this video), and when the new character came in, we chose one that was perfect for our situation, and that helped tremendously. We didn't suffer any significant consequences (because we planned for him to die and therefore ensured he didn't have any important items), and got a big boost with the new character in the right place with the right abilities to help us win. Maybe that's what put us over the top each time? Increasing the Doom track by 1 is a small price to pay for being able to instantly teleport almost anywhere in the world, get completely healed up, and get new abilities tailor made to the current problems...
      Or maybe we were crazy lucky...

    • @RafaelSanzioBorgesjp
      @RafaelSanzioBorgesjp 10 років тому

      I see. But, the new character in this game is chose by the players? In Arkham Horror can be or must be randomly?

    • @rahdo
