I was born in 94. My very first time listening to this song is in 2000. As a kid, I cannot fully understand the song. But i do see the power and energy of a real man.
Later, Tengri retired because of his daughter's illness. He could not save her life at the end and has been away from the stage since then. When I grew up, everytime I listen to heaven, some new emotions come out. He was like talking to your soul, bring you to inner Mongolia. You can see the blue sky, the cystal lake, the endless grassland, the chasing horses, the wandering sheeps and lovely girls. But because of overexploitation, the environment is destroyed. You can hear his sadness and yelling from his deep heart.
Last year, after the long year's effort of the project group, Tengri finally came back. 18 years later, when I was watching Tengri singing heaven again, my tears just can't stop falling. Especially that soft head voice, it heard like a lonely wolf howling to the moon. That was the voice generating from his soul, telling his story, singing to his daughter in the heaven. I am sure that heavenly voice can reach to his daughter.

Mongolians still speak sky as "Tenger" just in all day normal speeches, Tengri is an old mongolian writing pronounciation. Respect our great singer, inner mongolian. Beginning shows, the traditional mongolian khuumii and horse fiddles.

Thank you for your reaction. This is an emotional song that always brings me to tears. Tengri held a concert in NYC on September 14 2001 and he dedicated this song to 9/11 victims.
Tengri was born in 1960 in China's Inner Mongolia. In 1985, after graduating from the Tianjin Conservatory, Tengri became a professional singer and composer. He is well known in China. He wrote this song in 1997 to express how much he misses and loves his hometown and his daughter. His daughter died at the age of six due to illness. In the beginning, there was traditional Mongolian throat singing. This performance used the traditional Mongolian instrument Morin Khuur

That was what the singers at the beginning were doing in the intro.That's not what he was doing throughout the song.

If you have any notion of voice techniques, and if you look closer, the voices actually came out from beyond that vocal cord. It's like there's a deejay tuning on and off within, at one point the sound disappear altogether only to come back at full blast. A vocal coach would be able to see this technique is of the highest order. An ordinary person who doesn't know anything about voice techniques would find his facial emotions amusing, but that's because they didn't know any better. This is mainly Mongolian style of singing. Tengri is a renowned singer from Inner Mongolia in China.

Hey there Dave, just caught your reaction review and you're right, very powerful, controlled, and emotional. He was singing about his homeland and of a lost daughter. Definitely a deep and touching song. If you liked his powerful voice then I think you'll like another group but of a different genre. Give the group "The Hu", no it's not a play on the rock group The Who, a listen. They are a Mongolian band combining their cultural heritage with modern day metal. I'm sure you'll get a kick out of them. Listen to song Yuve Yuve Yu (sounds like they're saying Way U Way U). Enjoy!

hiiiiiiii you’ve reacted to so many amazing singers and musician, but you haven’t reacted to Hua Chenyu yet! can you please react to Hua Chenyu - Child at Singer 2018 pleasee? Hua Chenyu is that young lad who has this shock look all the time in this Tengri’s performance! He’s also so good. In fact, in this episode, Hua won the first rank and Tengri was in 2nd, for though he had higher rank, Hua was so disappointed that he came in first and if he could exchange the rank, he would, so Tengri could win his first performance as a substitute. Tengri is a legend! In Singer 2018, Tengri praised Hua Chenyu a lot and he even said to Hua to go easy on him, unsure it was said as a joke or not, however to me it was pretty funny and amusing. I love Tengri, he’s 可爱 (cute)!

As far as I understand, in the song, Tengri is lamenting the loss of his 'heavenly' homeland (in Chinese Inner Mongolia) to deforestation. He wrote this song more than 20 years ago and it's well-known and loved in China. (In the accompanying introduction on The Singer, Tengri is shown returning to Inner Mongolia to a forest he has planted and to which he adds more trees every year - there is a version of the song that has English subtitles btw.)
That is also why the the guy backstage was getting upset as well, because he comes from Inner Mongolia.
The song was produced in 1997.
