As a previous police department employee I would recommend not storing suitcases in the car if they are visible. Thieves target these vehicles to steal property from. Tourist sites and hotel parking lots are places they target also. Even or especially if you cover the items

driving across country, long day, lotsa mileage, 4 days. the first part of my 2+ month/10k miles summer road trip west bound and up loaded up and trucking.
Alway make the stop a triple threat: gas, food and liquid and solid waste removal. its a 30 min lost every time you stop.
this is when ima by myself, for the most part, although I moved my bro across the country. 3 800+ days and a 500 mile day ( shorten by bad weather).

I used street view to look at the major junctions so I was a bit more familiar with the layouts.

Hi Chris! I vote for OC Traveling Princess. Great tips! I drove across country from Los Angeles to Northern New Jersey. I didn't consider time zone changes and starting earlier so I wasn't driving at night which are 2 of your tips. Love the live streams! Hope to catch the one on Monday.

My wife and I always use Airbnb’s on long road trips (Anchorage- Orange County e.g.) unless they are not available in some towns. You feel safer leaving suitcases in the car overnight, the motels. We did a trip to Yellowstone from OC as well we did use some Motels in remote locations where crime rates are very low as well.

Hi Chris. Enjoyed the latest video on the Princess' channel. Great tips that we all can use. I try to be more flexible now when I take a road trip. You never know what you make interest you along the way that you didn't plan for. i'm not sure you covered this, but travelling with someone that you can get along with can help on a long road trip. Being in a car for several hours could take a toll on everyone. My suggestion is OC Princess Adventures. Thanks for sharing and take care.

    You need division of labor.
Ideally you have a playlist / directions person and a snacks person.

Driving at dusk or night can be scary, I was once many years ago on a road trip through the Mid west, and wound up in a suburban neighborhood I started seeing Witches, Ghosts ,Monsters, Vampires, Mummies ,and other weird things. I told my girlfriend to lock the car doors."Why",she asked. I told her. she said,"Silly ,it's Halloween" I felt like an idiot and fool.

Dang. I used to drive 15 hours a day on road trips. Course, that was back in the ‘90s. My friend and I did New Orleans to San Diego in 48 hours.
