As a trucker, the hauler crews honestly just did typical long haul distances for that time period if they are single driver operations, and honestly not that long of a stint if they do two man crews, and that's even factoring in the fact the teams probably did a stop at the team garage between races.

@@tydyeracinggaming4742 yeah for long haul 600 miles in a day is pretty standard and double that for a 2 man operation. For owner operators you can expect them doing 8 or 9 days of that out of 10 depending on how they balance their legally required rest periods. It's hard work but it's honest work and it pays well.

Huge Newgarden fan here, so a couple things I’d like to point out: due to how the pit cycles lined up, Josef was actually going to be in the lead after everyone pitted, had Daly not crashed into him. Also, they’ve been friends going back to their Formula Ford days, so it was horrifying to see this happen between them.
The other big thing is that this is the race that changed Josef’s career. Broke his collarbone and wrist, but he didn’t miss a race, and at Iowa just a few weeks later, he nearly lapped the entire field on his way to leading the most laps and winning. That, from what I understand, is what ultimately lead to him being signed with Team Penske. Since then, he’s collected 2 championships, 3 second place championship finishes, and won 22.4% of all races in IndyCar. So the wreck, his injury, and his comeback have all lead to one of the greatest careers in modern IndyCar, and in a few years I’m sure we’ll be talking about him as an all-time great as well.

    • @tydyeracinggaming4742
      @tydyeracinggaming4742  Рік тому

I was aware that both Newgarden and Daly were friends for a very long time. I think Daly in his post crash interview was incredibly hard on himself. It's just one of those unfortunate racing accidents that sometimes occurs in that sort of racing. I'm not surprised that that would've peaked Penske's interest. His determination through his injury and then the win at Iowa were extremely impressive.

Honestly Newgarden is OP on ovals, especially Iowa and Texas. It's like he can see the optimal line around the track and just click off laps on it.

Here's maybe the craziest stat of them all: NBC had to use two different lead commentators for both portions of this race. Brian Till subbed in for Leigh Diffey, who was off in Montreal doing the Canadian GP for NBC. It should be noted that the F1 race was supposed to air on NBC, with the postponed IndyCar race on NBCSN (where it was also supposed to have aired the night before), but both races got shifted to different networks (F1 to NBCSN, IndyCar to CNBC) because of NBC News's ongoing coverage of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando that had taken place in the early morning hours.
When it was time to finally finish it up, Diffey was again unable to do it because of F1 commitments (Belgium, this time), and Till had to work the IMSA race at Virginia International for FS1, so, Kevin Lee had to step in and finish the race.

I believe Texas Motor Speedway was having issues with drying the track around that time. Water was getting trapped underneath or something and wasn't draining properly. I remember seeing a clip where they drilled a hole in the asphalt and water gushed out. I was at that track the same year, 2016, for the Fall (or Spring? I don't remember) NASCAR race and it was delayed due to rain. Took them 6 hours to dry the track. After that race, they completely repaved the speedway and fixed the drainage issues.

    • @tydyeracinggaming4742

The thing about F1 is that you do not need a minimum amount of laps for the race to count; it's only 2 laps of green flag running what F1 needs to declare a race
So if this Texas race was an F1 race, they'd have called it a day with 71/248 laps ran and given half points under the old system. Under the new system, 71 laps = 28% of race distance so F1 would give points to the top 9 (13-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1)

So I usually go to this race every year but for this one we were originally not supposed to go since me and my family were going on a cruise to Alaska. So we hear about this on the cruise we found out that this race was going to be delayed for another 76 days which meant that we would be home again (since I used to live about 1 hour away from the track). So when the race restarted I got to see it with my dad and my grandpa and it was worth it with that finish. Unfortunately the track isn't the same anymore and not as good. I actually saw something very similar happen here in October 2020 when the Nascar Cup Series race was delayed for literally 3 whole days. Thankfully, I got to see the whole thing since now I live about 10 minutes from the track even with school in the middle of the delay but at least it started at the perfect time where I could get out of school and make it to the race on time which was also worth since I got to see my favorite driver get his 1 and only win of that season.

ah yes, 2008 st pete, winning in his first start (which was a wet race, mind, only making that more impressive) and fontana 2015 being, well, fontana 2015, and RLL giving him a fast car that in the early part of the race (aka the entire first ~130 laps, all run under green), gave signs of being potentially race-win, which it turning out had been true. probably would've have won even without briscoe's terrifying flight at the white flag.

Red Condition - intent to restart the race on following day(s) - Cars may be moved to an impound area - Only the following work may be performed:
      - Battery disconnected
      - Car radio removed
      - Car cover must be installed
      - Two (2) hours prior to the restart of the race Engine, oil and gearbox heaters may be installed
      - All Cars must be started and ready to grid 30 minutes before the restart
Red Condition - Cars released to the Teams - the following procedures will be in effect:
      - Cars will be taken to the fuel depot; Car’s fuel tank will be filled or drained to determine the amount of fuel in the Car. Prior to being gridded for the restart, Entrants must drain the Car’s fuel tank and return to the fuel depot to have the previously-determined amount of fuel added to the Car’s fuel tank (violation of this results in a 2 lap penalty!)
      - Tire barcodes will be recorded. These tires must be used until scoring resumes and the Pit Lane has been declared open. INDYCAR may approve all Cars to restart the race on a different set or type of tires.

Indy drivers brought how often and how much they have to turn they were getting dizzy. From turn 3 through 2 they are constantly turning. Oval races are extremely dangerous for Indycar. Now give every car an aero package that prevents the cars from spreading out. Racing is dangerous, that's part of the appeal of it. But when you artificially add to the danger for excitement and ignore the comments of your drivers, well we've seen the outcome

When I say epic, I'm not talking about a 24 hour, or a race interrupted, I'm talking the monster that was the Marathon de la Route. 84 hours of continuous racing in one go. Think about that, 3.5 DAYS of racing, in one shot. To cap it off, there were some seriously weird rules - as an example, the cars were required to complete the same number of laps in the last 12 hours as they did in the first 12 hours, or they got penalized...

not possible. Indycar rules state that the race must reach half distance plus one lap before any prize money or points can awarded. since it didn't get there, the race was postponed to a later date, which honestly, given that this was before TMS was ruined, was a good call. if the race had got to about 130 laps or so, then yes, i'd agree. but only 71 were completed before the red flag, so therefore, no.
