Thats great... did you hear how bad justice sounds with bass? When you palm mute with the justice tone, it produces basically the same low frequencies that make your sub scream in pain. Justice has my favorite tone too... its just so fucking badass.
jonny j that's because without the bass they would have had to emulate how it would have sounded with bass. Good guitar tones in a band context will sound horrible by themselves. They're very mid'y and with "too much" high end. But with the bass, drums and vocals everything fits together and sounds amazing. It's the same thing as solo funk players using a ton of muting. That's not something you do in a band context but playing by yourself sounds empty so you throw in another "instrument"
I forgot to add it in the description and I'm sure you worked it out but the first part of the intro is how it was originally recorded before being reversed on the album. I recorded it then copy/pasted it in reverse and joined them together so it sounds continuous. I wanted you to hear it the way it was written. It blew me away when I reversed it in the audio editor and got this menacing German march style tune that sounded unreal. Even after 25 or more years of listening to this album, I still here new things. My favourite album of all time
LambChopper678 Yup, AJFA is a GREAT album. I was blown away when I first heard the intro played how it was actually recorded (the actual recording that someone had "re-reversed" lol) . It's true though, every time I listen to this album (at least through a proper audio-system) , I hear new elements. There are so many guitar-tracks on this album. Actually I think the "procedure" was that Hetfield recorded at least 3 rhythm tracks (left- right - center/middle) . I think he called it "the thickener" (Kirk didn't record any rhythm tracks for this album) . Great cover by the way, you've already nailed the tone!
metalehead95 They originally recorded it the way he's playing it from 0:16 to 0:40 , then they played the tape in reverse, which is the result you hear at the beginning of Blackened, before the heavy riff.
It was their last truly great album. Still say they did Newkid dirty though. It’s a shame. They need to redeem themselves and have an official rerelease of AJFA with bass.
We have to agree to disagree on the drumming of Lars... i think he’s the weakest link in Metallica from start to finish. Imagine if they had someone like Jason Bittner back in the 80’s
Pera yeah the crying and complaining... and the black album... everything after Justice has shitty drumming... even Justice is average. So many better drummers than Lars...
Gives me chills every time. Most epic intro ever. I had no freakin' idea they played it backwards. Would love to know the story behind it. Were they in the studio and someone just tried it out of curiosity or was it planned beforehand. Anyway, I am so glad they did. I also love the forward version, but backwards these harmonies blow my mind.
yap actually some parts aren't what he plays its similar but not exact i didn't look at the harmonies probably he got some harmony lines beside the main riff , cause i know the main one
Coltallic dude almost every single Metallica video I've watched I've always seen you in the comments. I was learning shortest straw and then came here because I was interested in learning this too and well shit your here lol XD
I had never heard the Blackened intro backwards until I saw this video. That was awesome! The moment of anticipation just before the "real" intro kicked in gave me the chills! :)
+justsomemusicguy I couldn't believe I'd never tried reversing it before. It's been my favourite album for so many years, I thought I explored every inch of it then found the mother of all easter eggs
LambChopper678 Hey dude, have you ever tried a Sterling by musicman guitar? I just bought a JP100DMKOA from guitar Center and it comes with the dimarzio LiquiFire and Crunchlab pickups. You should totally try one out and tell me what you think on it or look it up. Also, what are your personal opinions on Dimarzio pickups? Do you like them, do you think they're metal enough? I hear people say they're generally better than seymour Duncan pickups.? Thanks for reading if you do, reply maybe. Cheers!!
The sterling music man is a cool guitar, they have one down at my local music store. Dimarzio's are really nice pups, I have the liquifire and distortion in my San Dimas and I couldn't think of anything better I'd rather have in that guitar. Sounds amazing. It really depends on the guitar though. I tried evolutions in my RR5 and it didn't sound as good as the Duncans and vice versa. They have a unique flavour that I really like. I've never heard a bad tone come from John Petrucci
I don't know what it is about the Intro, Reversed or played normal, but it's one of the best melodies I've ever heard, it changed my life when I was 12 haha. sick cover man I'm gonna do my first Tallica song soon, Where did you get the backing track from?
hey this is heavy metal do that Tanya I love heavy metal and rock I like Metallica AC DC kid Rock Metallica Megadeth anthrax I like all heavy metal rock band boy they ever Rock my world Friday party. Love Tonya
That intro from the beginning until 1:24 is so bad ass it put chill bumps on my arms!!! Metallica is my favorite band and you played this completely awesome! I play guitar as well. It’s mostly Metallica, so cheers!!
Something about when it reverses, everyone I’ve ever spoken to. When they hear that intro, like some dormant beast awakens. We are called, summoned, everyone I’ve ever spoken with says the same. It makes you feel something unspoken. An untethered rage about to explode. It’s absolutely beautiful what sounds can do, and there are few things as urgent, and quite frankly, as fucking badass and brutal as that intro. It will always send chills down my spine
my god! i just love the reveresed intro, and came back to an original,. i wish metallica did this. anyway good job my friend. you deserve my respect!!.
This is the coolest thing I've ever heard, this has been my favourite noise since I was like 11 years old and now to hear it forwards, just incredible! Thank you :D
Thanks man , I don't know much about chords and all that hahaha actually i'm going to buy my very first acoustic guitar very soon and start learning that shit!
Jigsaw I've been playing guitar for nearly 15 years and I don't know hardly what chords are I just mostly know where I need to place my fingers on the fret board lol. I only know the basic A, B, C, D, E, F, G chords. Anything beyond that is just power or bar chord to me. lol
The thing he's doing wrong in the main riff is after he does that power chord on the 1st fret of A, he is supposed to do 2 and 3 on the E, 2 and 3 on the A, and then a 1 on the E, but he's just doing 3 and 2 on the E and then doing a gallop on the open E. What does E major have to do with anything? The song is in E Phrygian.
From one musician to another, that is the absolute best Blackened cover ive ever heard...hands down. Next to James himself, thats the best. Incredible job bro \,,/
This dude does some of the best covers on UA-cam and hardly gets any love. But some little cutie 18 year old who can hardly play all, butches her songs gets 5,000,000 views? SMH...

My girlfriend wants to go, so we go. Really easy because I was working in Ohio, so we had a base of operations. The line up was Van Halen /with Sammy, the Scorpions, Kingdom Come, and METALLICA, there was one more band, I can't pull the name out of my brain man, maybe Dokken? But that doesn't sound right. Awesome tone and awesome picking accuracy man. Although you got the end of the main riff slightly wrong. Missing a few notes. The galop ends with B-C-C-F-E. Keep it up.
Paul Jones Thanks Paul, honestly from the second I decided to do this video from warm up right to upload about10 - 12 hours. I haven't played for nearly 2 weeks away with work so getting the right hand back in form took a good few days. My wrist felt great by the last take, made me want to go back and start again to make it tighter.
+Lithium IRL just look at him... i bet he's not just disappointed in solo, he's disappointed in his own life ... take one good look at him in his videos, all will be much clearer to you :D
There is a scene in Terminator 2 where Sarah hits a security guard in the face with a broken mop handle or something. If you notice, the screen flashes white right when she hits him. It produces a jolting effect if you don't notice it directly. You used a similar effect here, and it worked really well!
No bass just like the original luv it
That's great xD
Thats not good
Thats great... did you hear how bad justice sounds with bass? When you palm mute with the justice tone, it produces basically the same low frequencies that make your sub scream in pain. Justice has my favorite tone too... its just so fucking badass.

Lmao where the fuck is the lie 😂
Who else was singing along with James' voice in your head
Luke Schwed sang it out loud
Me but out loud
Yeah but not out loud it's 2am 😂😂
BLACKENED IN THE E- oh thats right
Blackened in your head :)
damn as soon as the reversed intro came in the tone blew me away
that fucking intro
Maximum Joy that's epic intro
I wish they actually had that on blackened
Reversed sounds much more of an intro tbh
the second one is reversed
The Kool Aid Man it's there, just it's in reverse on the album version
This intro....... Oh my God! This is so epic!
I forgot to add it in the description and I'm sure you worked it out but the first part of the intro is how it was originally recorded before being reversed on the album. metalehead95 They originally recorded it the way he's playing it from 0:16 to 0:40 , then they played the tape in reverse, which is the result you hear at the beginning of Blackened, before the heavy riff.
RickyboyH wow thnx man i didnt know they recorded it that way thats why it has that unique sound i guess
LambChopper678 Hello! Please make a cover of the band Annihilator
best Metallica album.
Say that to Jason
Best album ever
rtl
It was their last truly great album. Still say they did Newkid dirty though. It’s a shame. They need to redeem themselves and have an official rerelease of AJFA with bass.
The intro mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Québec ASMR Guitars.
You even captured the inaudible bass line. Well done :P
Easily one of the greatest thrash metal albums. When all band members were passionate and skillful, especially Lars. Amazing drums on the entire album
How tf was ajfo thrash?

Oguz Aksoy jason, the bassist, suggested that they reverse the intro
Jason also wrote the main riff
I’m pretty sure it was a tribute to Cliff, whose idea it was to reverse the intro to Damage Inc
that intro has forever changed the way i think of this song. congratulations and great job. keep on rocking
Something is off in the main riff.
+Spartant2112 I noticed that too,
yap actually some parts aren't what he plays its similar but not exact i didn't look at the harmonies probably he got some harmony lines beside the main riff , cause i know the main one

Coltallic yeah his is off by an eighth note in the main tiff
There's always something off with this guy's covers. Still, he's way better than me (and also much wealthier :P)
I had never heard the Blackened intro backwards until I saw this video. That was awesome! The moment of anticipation just before the "real" intro kicked in gave me the chills! :)

@@LambChopper678 well done man.. Well done 👏🏻
I only came here about now ジ
This video should be inducted into some sort of UA-cam Hall of Fame. Real talent.
The dislike button is unnecessary option for videos like this one :)

Agree, how can you not like that.

CWM thanks mate, there's a few original drum and instrument tracks floating around on UA-cam. They got ripped after guitar hero Metallica came out

CWM its so fucking beautiful reversed
What it is about the intro? One word: Hetfield.

my god! i just love the reveresed intro, and came back to an original,. i wish metallica did this. anyway good job my friend. you deserve my respect!!.
I was thinking they could've ended the album with the straight version, and made the album infinitely loop
Ive never seen anyone do that good of a solo cover using the floyd rose👌
You're the second person I've seen do the intro in reverse like that. Spot on cover as usual!
Awesome intro, and great cover. Thx for this LambChopper678.
You absolutely nailed every aspect of my favourite Metallica song, I'm blown away! Loving your collection of Vs too haha :)
Nope. Timing is all over the place.
That transition from original to reversed makes it 10 times better !
3:25 - it looks like he's holding black guitar's cable 😂
Really 🤣
No it doesnt
This is the coolest thing I've ever heard, this has been my favourite noise since I was like 11 years old and now to hear it forwards, just incredible! Thank you :D
Man the main riff ... something is wrong with it
Jigsaw he appears to be playing a power chord second fret A and D string and sliding it down to first fret when he's chugging the second riff.
Thanks man , I don't know much about chords and all that hahaha actually i'm going to buy my very first acoustic guitar very soon and start learning that shit!

this reverse intro sound soooo epic!
Perfect sound perfect playing and not only that the crap that he had to go through to put three parts all together, this guy has talent.
Chase Miller Well thanks mate, appreciated. I'm a big fan
This is fantastic, the tone is almost perfect! and also those are gorgeous guitars! and the intro is so cool both ways.
Santiago Bernal Macía Thank you man

Especially when sometimes is a girl, and yes, she is showing her boobs, that's where the 200000 views come from.
LambChopper678
He's probably still trying to learn the first bar.
John Rambo boobs + "ok playing" get clicks. simple as that.
KING TROLL who is this "18 year old"?
The original intro (they way it was first written) is great. the thing is, the reversed intro (the one used on the album) carries a foreign (as in "non human", uncanny valley) tone. it's like an unsettling sensation that i couldn't explain when i was younger. when i saw the video i finally understood why, as i had no idea that it was reversed. what makes it even more brilliant is the way it resonate to the song's theme of devolution (degeneration to a lower or worse state) following a nuclear war.
James’s Tech: How do you want your tone?
James: GIMME MIDS GIMME HIGHS GIMME THAT WHICH I DESIRE!
Lamb chopper...... I am speechless! Absolutely amazing, these tracks bring total happiness to me and you my sir... have done it justice for all 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Love it with a megadeth t-shirt, on top left in beginning.

AngryGinger Thanks mate, I'm glad to bring inspiration. That's as good as it gets
I liked this reverse intro so much and you duel guitar cover this should be the original
That intro. Speaks to my soul.
Megadeth shirt and Dave Mustaine flying V James and Lars: *triggered*
there's a clip where someone says "spell metallica" and a dude says "m e g a d e t h" and your comment just made me think this
THAT INTRO IS INSANE. I could die happy if I wrote that magic
Lars wants to know "Where's the bass?"
KING TROLL he should ask himself
It foking left the bend
all become of him lol
He quit the fucking band!!
Best blackened cover I've ever heard!
7:30 is incredible harmony
I love this song! I listen to AJFA at least once a week. Start to finish is the one way. The fact this is the opening track says it all.
Nice and heavy, my favourite Metallica album. Nice one mate. It's one of those albums with no wishy washy stuff, just proper in your face metal.
a jackson, an esp and a dean such a great combo of guitars
Am I the only one who actually prefers the way he does the gallop In the intro riff // more than the original version?
If only this was the original, masterful cover you've made her sir. Plus the reverse intro just makes it sound much more epic
My god, you are an absolute beast at guitar haha! Impressive cover btw! :D
That Countdown Shirt is one of the best shirts ive ever seen.
Awesome job! Gotta ask though how the hell is the kick on one channel and the snare in the other? :D
Wow, the bass sounds exactly like on the record...😁! Keep up the superb work dude, all your videos are worth watching✌️
the best fukin intro, great cover
That tone is God damn divine, oh my good lord it's pin point-perfect
Killer also quite difficult to play.
That intro is hauntingly good.
Awesome!!
The guitars are nice, indeed, but the work you done with the bass is just perfect. Absolutely equal to the original.
Awesome tone and awesome picking accuracy man. Although you got the end of the main riff slightly wrong. Missing a few notes. The galop ends with B-C-C-F-E. Keep it up.
+Henrik Almqvist yeah, but although a good job at least. Especially the tone nails it.
Henrik Almqvist Metallica does the same mistake when they played this track back in the day. i think it's because of the speed of song.
Literally the best cover I've seen can't stop rewatching
Could you please cover "Avoid the Light" by Pantera?
Man, really best cover for Blackened
Fantastic as always. How long does it take you to make a video like this?
Paul Jones Thanks Paul, honestly from the second I decided to do this video from warm up right to upload about10 - 12 hours. I haven't played for nearly 2 weeks away with work so getting the right hand back in form took a good few days. My wrist felt great by the last take, made me want to go back and start again to make it tighter.
LambChopper678 I thought I would have taken days if not weeks!
Cheers for the reply.
Still my favorite Metallica song to this day. Great cover man.
Any other interesting Metallica songs that have a secret to them?
Escape from Ride The Lightning: The song was written for the Radio. James didn't enjoy written that one, he has said.
Here's another secret:
St. Anger isn't real. It's just a figment in all of our imaginations.
Blu
Sad but true.
+Ivan Caroselli I could understand that cause it sounds like it would be very radio friendly, for Metallica, that is
Mr. Nobody Forever Damage incl
The most beautiful intro
Do you like Randy Rhoads?
who doesn't, he's a god
wow that was awesome ive been playing for 23 years and the detail spot on bravo
+Mike Smith Thanks mate, appreciated
you go too hard on the palm muting, really kills the riff...
this intro is truly amazing
Disappointed by the solo
+Kartik Mishra how? why? not enough wah-wah?
+Lithium IRL just look at him... i bet he's not just disappointed in solo, he's disappointed in his own life ... take one good look at him in his videos, all will be much clearer to you :D
you're fucking crazy dude that solo was amazing
it was mostly off-sync with the rest of the instruments...
Konnect Music - Kartik Id like to see you play it.
Finally someone who actually sees that there is a LOW NOTE in the main riff
Metallica is metallica! Unique singular awesome! That reverse idea of playing guitar to Blackened intro was genial! I love Metallica!
Nice cover, sick intro. Can't believe this song's almost 30 years old
Bro, this is insane! You absolutely nailed the intro! Beautiful job, mate! Respect!
Awesome cover man. The tone, the harmonies, the intro and the solo were all on point. Much respect!
the intro fucking kills EVERY. GOD. DAMN. TIME. you nailed it, man
There is a scene in Terminator 2 where Sarah hits a security guard in the face with a broken mop handle or something. If you notice, the screen flashes white right when she hits him. It produces a jolting effect if you don't notice it directly. You used a similar effect here, and it worked really well!
