I bought an orange Xcellence 1.5 TSI 150hp petrol 2wd recently, and re-watching this review I must say Thomas is right in the assessment. And it does need a little more pedal in 2nd gear than the diesel, but that is to be expected. Plenty of power if you need it. Surprisingly agile SUV, feels like a higher Leon and is similar in tight maneuvers. We are still more than pleased with the Ateca, thanks for the review Thomas!

Well done. A fantastic review. Motorway refinement test missing but will trust your word it's good. Most of all, absolutely amazing to see a SEAT SUV after an insanely long wait and several motorshow concept cars (remember Tribu and IBX?). Seems like it was worth the wait! Now they just need to get some decent UK dealers!

SEAT has unofficially said that adaptive dampers is a feature to be added later on in the options list of the Ateca.

That would be great, because there is no meaning of very stiff ride quality with the provided low power engine. Specially when this setup could not provide a best performance in the moose test by km77!!! IMHO either Seat or VW ruined this ride quality by the stiff suspension. Great review Thomas hat off

Thanks for this video. I buy the seat ateca Xcellence and I received it begining september, very nice car. The problem described at 26:15 (safety about opening an closing back door) is now fixed. If any resistence by opening or closing the back door, it stops immediatly. The system is now safe.

Really appreciate the quality or your tests. I found you to be the best and most objective tester of german and non-german cars like yr test of the Maserati Ghibli (Harry Metcalfe ex EVO test was also a good one) and I have driven a Ghibli S Q4 for the las 24 months and still love it. Now I am getting a demo Ateca 4WD 190hp diesel for my wife (and for us during the winter) or maybe a new 1.4 liter 150hp 4WD coming out in November. I am waiting both offers to compare but both configurations appeal to me. Thank you for your fine work. Philgood.

Great review as always, on that ocasion nice to see my own city on your riding ;-) Well balanced car, but to me looks nice on top configuration, I see too many extras when configuring it on the online shop, price rises very quick. I'm afraid the entry version are not going to look that flashy, at least on the interior. Thanks for your accurate work, Thomas!

Seat is an really good car brand, i went to the dealer couple days ago for an seat ibiza fr connected. Really comfortable everything inside looks really good as the outside.

I must admit that Ateca looks way better than new Audi Q2 and is for sure much more spacious inside. And all this for less money. I think the choice is obvious.

Great review Thomas, in the beautiful, but for the moment rainy Barcelona ! I like VAG cars, and the smaller brother, compact SUV Ateca is also very good looking and practically in the city. I like the orange colour and I'm waiting to see the Tiguan's bigger brother from the same class the new Skoda Kodaik.

I have just ordered a new Leon st with executive trim level with alacantra seats, dsg etc. Coming from French cars so quite excited about trying something else. Quite impressed by the build quality when I test drove one. Will be receiving it in the beginning of September. Can't wait!

I like the looks of this car, apparently the Seat design (esp. the front) is very well suited to being 'blown up' to an SUV. I liked the wheels on the test car, and although being more of a fan of grey I found myself strangely attracted to the orange color. I am not sure I would risk buying it though, being afraid I would start to dislike it after a while.
I like the interior too. I'm not sure what the differences are with a Leon interior, but they apparently did the right things because it looks better than a Leon.
I was afraid they would ruin the ride by making it sportier, but it seems they didn't.This all makes it very interesting to me. I recently sat in a new Tiguan and found it a touch too big for my taste. I guess the Ateca would be the right size for me!

Nice car, this interior is just amazing :) 19" inch wheels on the orange version are top ! It less a panoramic roof maybe... Really cool car, I think it's better looking than a Tiguan.

I ordered a Tiguan as I thought the Ateca would be a lot smaller, especially the boot. Also, the lease fee for the Tiguan tdi190 4m dsg Highline is actually cheaper than the Ateca tdi150 4drive excellence here in Sweden, due to better resale value. But I'm starting to think the Ateca looks better, and the options are cheaper.

WOW- some features here are sportier, nicer than on the Tiguan - wish we could pick our feature ( since these are sister cars) and assemble a vehicle to our specifically taste!
Great review. On the auto hold brake. What's not to like? I have it on my Tiguan and love it, you don't have to keep your foot on the foot pedal when stopped at lights or traffic, just press accelerator and it disengages front brake. I'm seriously thinking of the Ateca 2.0 TDI with DSG for 2017 instead of another Tiguan.

+Autogefühl Taking that literally, why not open the door, put your foot out and try stopping the car 😰. The auto hold has nothing to do with the auto hand brake, two different systems. Having DSG and no auto hold is crazy, it's a must have.
I usually prefer white, but that Samoa Orange is really really attractive!

Wow, thank you so much for this great review Thomas, Autogefuhl is very fast indeed ! I just tried this Ateca last week and I was very satisfied and charmed about it ! The only problem is that I'm not a fan of diesel and I would like 4 drive, DSG and petrol engine. Unfortunately, this combo doesn't exist and I can only find it with the Tiguan, but I prefer the design of the Ateca. Hard choice ;-)
Hm, the 1.4 we drove should be available with DSG and AWD at some point!
I don't know where are you from, but here in Poland combination of 1.4 tsi, DSG and 4drive is available. Ask your dealer, maybe it will be available later on your market.
I'm from Switzerland, just checked the configurator again, and unfortunately you have to choose 1.4 + dsg or 1.4 + 4drive, you cannot have all together. Guess this is smart way to push us to buy Tiguan :)
maybe it comes at a later stage, dunno

Hi Thomas. Another great informative review. Which gearbox do you prefer in the Ateca and Tiguan, the DSG or manual? Which car do you prefer the Ateca or Tiguan? I dont think we'll get the small engine cars in the UK, in fact I think we'll only get the 190bhp Ateca and Tiguan in DSG mode.

It comes down to the very offer the dealer makes you. DSG is for lazy drivers, and therefore I like it =)

Thomas do you also do sound system tests on any cars especially with higher trim packages?
Seat offers also better sound system for this car (same i think as Leon sound system).
It would be nice to know on subjective opinion how it sounds or what can be adjusted.
ye we do that, but on camera you cannot hear the difference. I can just state my subjective impressions

really it is a great detailed review but I have a question ? is it that refined that one could over look the audi q3 as a premium brand ? currently I am riding a 1.4 tfsi audi Q3..but as whole package i feel that the seat ateca wins hands down...
I had a similar feeling while looking at both at a car show. Even though the Q3 is more expensively upholstered, the Ateca looked like a better package, even in the looks department (in the rear it is more Audi than that Q3).
Exactly..now the q3 interior looks over dated and its much more smaller and its price is more...i think the q3 should step up the game cause right now its over shadowed...ur just paying the price of a brand badge..
Very nice car. Too bad for me it has got a dashboard from Leon 3 that I actually have. I'm going to see this car in dealership. Sound very promissing. But the basic version is just horrible.
