I know I'm one of millions studying the gospel, I have heard many ways to explain these verses , great to see discussion, love Baxter and lean toward his views also Francois Dutoit, Andre Rabe, Fr. Richard Rohr, Rene Girard, PW Young and I'm not universalist. Just try to learn to hear HS during my studies. Disturbing how most my Christian brothers argue God is angry at us and waiting to give us a smack down. God is Love or hes not my God.
May Father YAHweh bless your understanding and show you His Resurrected Son YAHwehShua. The Hebrew MESSIAH sent by Father YAHweh. He has saved the people from their sins. Praise Father YAHweh.
My friend, read earlier in that same chapter! "Surely he took up _our_ pain and bore our suffering, yet _we_ considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted." What was Jesus suffering from? _Our pain. Our suffering._ Who makes the mistake of thinking Jesus was punished by God? _We did, and we still do!_ And many Evangelicals still continue to make that error. You would think the apostles would have this kind of understanding of the atonement, no? But why is it they did not preach the gospel that way all through the book of Acts? Penal satisfaction theory almost _has_ to be read into the text. As for the verse which you quote, the Septuagint (LXX) translation is quite helpful here (keep in mind, this is the Greek Old Testament that is quoted 85% of the time by the New Testament authors). What does that same verse read? “The Lord wills to CLEANSE [or heal, or purge] him of the beating/wound." Perhaps it was God's will that Jesus be crushed - but I do not see God as the one doing the crushing; He willed Christ to be cleansed, healed and vindicated. Hallelujah!
In the gospel of Mark it states: “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 (ESV) The definition for Ransom is as follows: Noun A sum of money or other payment demanded or paid for the release of a prisoner. Verb Obtain the release of (a prisoner) by making a payment demanded. Who is demanding a payment? So is the scripture really saying that Jesus came to die for us to pay for something someone else was demanding a payment for? That’s The Gospel in a nutshell. God demands Justice and His wrath is on those who are against Him. You can run away from The True God but you won’t be following God at that point nor preaching the correct Gospel. The funny thing is that you sound like all the atheist I have talked to not wanting to follow God because He doesn’t fit your version of Goodness even if He were proven to be real. God is still very much Good in His justice and is completely just in sending people to hell because He is the ultimate Judge. That’s what the end times is, God(Jesus) judging people and sending them to hell or Heaven. If you don’t like that Jesus then you have made a god in your own image and likeness and that is breaking the commandment of not making an idol for yourself. It also breaks the commandment of loving God which is one of the greatest. Also in Isaiah, his prophecy about The Messiah says this: “He was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned-every one-to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all” Isaiah 53 You said you wouldn’t like the God that sends His son to die for our iniquities but that’s exactly what the scriptures say! So why do you hate the True God? If you reject Isaiah then Jesus was not The Messiah but just some man no one accurately prophesied about. Also, Jesus took the Old Testament seriously and if you are a Christian then you would follow in His thinking. Don’t deceive yourself, all scripture is inspired by God. You might as well be atheist if you want to make a God out of your own image, seriously and I say this lovingly to hopefully take away the lies of this man. I’m going to leave you with one last verse to end all confusion. In 1 John 4:10 it says: “10 In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins.” You may look up the meaning for propitiation but I’ll give it to you here: Oxfords Dictionary: Propitiation Noun The action of propitiation for appeasing a god, spirit or person Or in Merriam- Webster’s dictionary: Propitiation The act of gaining or regaining the favor of goodwill of someone or something: the act of propitiating: APPEASEMENT // a sacrifice in propitiation of the gods You can’t get away from This Gospel message and as your response shows, the reason you’re running away from it is not because of scripture but because of your dislike for our God. Please reconsider your thinking brother, it’s not of God nor of The Bible (His Word).

Maybe REALLY read the bible and see what you then believe. According to this book there had to be betrayer, Judas didn't have his 'free will', he was forced to betray Jesus so the whole sordid affair could work.
What a concept!!! The Father IN CHRIST was reconciling the entire cosmos to himself through the cross and His blood.
