    These are really excellent tips!! I knew that phals needed that temp change but didn't know that cattleyas do too! Good to know! Great tips for indoor or even outdoor growers! Thanks!

      Thank you! Yeah you get it naturally since you grow outside but many indoor growers with central air can struggle with this if the temps are too steady. :)

    The humidity tip helps a LOT in an air conditioned room. Humidifiers ON. Thank you!

    Great information! I've been growing catts for 5 yrs. They just kept getting bigger and bigger...no bloom! Finally BOOM they're all blooming, budding, or growing sheaths. It's all about extreme light. You're so right. Also i watched your video on division. It worked perfectly! Thanks so much! 🌵🎋🌵 Arizona

      Thanks Paula! Which one hasn't bloomed yet? 😂 I blame the plant on that one since you bloom cattleyas left and right 🌸❤️

      @NicoleDeanna Hawaiian Ruby paradise! The thorn in my side! I actually have 3 of same bag baby plants. So they are from same flask I'm sure but yes all 3 are over 10 years old and have not bloomed! I have looked up the background and they have so much in them it's hard to say what's stopping it! 🤣

      @@hillbillyorchids gosh, from flask they take an eternity! I have my digbyana going on 5 years, I'm waiting for her but she was tiny when I got her. I also have a cattleya from Carmela orchids I got 4 years ago that hasn't bloomed but this has to be the year haha

    I have a cattleya that I impulse-bought in 2019, when it arrived I read that they need a lot of light and I thought "well this thing is doomed." But I stuck it in an east-facing window and it seems to like the particular type of neglect that I provide because every fall I get eight big beautiful fragrant purple and white blooms. I ended up on your channel looking for a more detailed explanation of how to divide these things, I am so afraid I'm going to kill it but it's flopping out of its 10" pot so I need to do something. Thank you for this video and the detailed one about dividing, I'm gonna give it a go this weekend!

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  Місяць тому

      How exciting! Yes, sometimes east facing window is enough and that orientation can give good direct light that gives enough but doesn't hurt the leaves. 8 Blooms is wonderful. You will be successful with your dividing. Just be sure to make sure it has active growing root tips :)

    Hey! Thanks for the video!
    How do your orchids grow and not die in a pot without aeration holes (the first pot looked like a regular plastic pot)?
    Also, if you cannot see the roots, how do you know that the plant needs water? I hate to wait until it starts to shrivel and feeling to pot to see if it’s lighter (due to dry media) doesn’t seem very reliable….

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  7 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching! That pot has drainage holes, over time I can tell if it's try or not, based on how heavy it is and how it looks from the outside. I think it's easier for beginners to use clear pots but once you've been growing for a while regular pots are just fine and you get a 'feel' for it.

      Catts are the best!! And yes, once you get the light right, they are super low maintenance! (Aside from repotting, but that's a different story) Lol

    How often do you water your cattleya orchids. Mature plants and also seedling sizes. Thanks again.

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  7 місяців тому

      Depends on how big the pot is, the temps, and the material it's in but big cattleya pots about 1x per week and smaller pots 2x per week. In the summer twice that amount.

    Hi Nicole,
    I’m having great success with my Cattleya orchids as well❣️ They are growing and blooming under my Barrina leds. my question is and I do feel this is true that when they are an active growth and an active budding in blooming that they could use more water. In winter I usually let them go once a week to water but now that I find it summer and it’s warmer and they’re reactive growth and butt and bloom that they need to be water twice a week. How do you feel about that also, the MSU fertilizer where can I find that, thank you so much please respond. I love your videos. Thanks❣️ Paula

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  7 місяців тому +1

      I agree with you Paula, in the summer the cattleyas need more water. For me it's because of the temperature change. I have the MSU fertilizer I use linked in the description :)

    I’m currently trying to find a good spot for my last Catt. I used to have a collection of several catts, zygos, and oncidiums, but due to having to move several times in the last few years I’m now down to one. She flowered nicely at my last place, outside in a carport, but here is tougher….I’m in a flat under a main house and under their balcony. There’s two sources of light……a window out onto the area under the balcony, which is NOT enough light, and the kitchen wall which gets direct sunlight and is made of those thick glass bricks, that are frosted, so quite bright. I’ve moved her out here on top of the fridge……hopefully it’s not too much, but fingers crossed. She’s been growing well…….just not flowering. Leaves have lightened up so fingers crossed for blooms in spring/summer.

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  7 місяців тому

      I hope the new spot makes it bloom 😀 if it doesn't work, perhaps get an led light and you can put her anywhere in your place.

    "I don't cool this room"
    even when it is boiling hot and humid (i.e. mid to late August)?

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  7 місяців тому

      Yes, and that begins in July 🥹 Everything has to deal with the 90-95 degree temps then, no central ac here and I just never put a window unit in for this room. It's worked out on everything but the intermediate growers lol.i just have to water almost daily though.
