Maul didn't use the force to enhance his abilities what so ever. He did it purely with skill. Otherwise it would only take Maul like 2 swings to kill Visla.
I don't think many notice how smart Maul was in this scene. Not once in the entire fight does Maul fall back on the Force, instead relying on his inherent skill with a lightsaber and his agility, even when Vizsla is using all of his gadgets against him. The fact that shows the rest of the soldiers that he can defeat their leader without falling back on his Force abilities speaks volumes about how powerful he is but it also shows that he is willing to handicap himself for an honor bound duel, which earns their loyalty. Yeah, Maul knew he could win without the Force but he also had to use Mandalorian culture to his advantage.
Honestly when I saw this when it first aired years back. I agreed and was shocked that any and in fact so many(like less then a dozen I know but still a lot more then I thought) would run off and fight against Maul.
@@tomn6269 Think he means more explicitly like force choking Vizla or pushing him away. Cause like he did pull the sword towards him and enhance his agility with the force. But he easily could have throw Vizla around if he wanted to.

@I am Cornholio By that logic then the first person to give birth to another person led to the deaths of all people to have died at the hands of another human.
I am Cornholio This is why it's important to actually learn history, instead of have "professors" try to twist the lesson with something they got from an activist blogger. Myth: Columbus did not actually discover anything. FACT: Columbus discovered America. When he set sail in 1492, no one on either side of the Atlantic knew the other was there. His voyage initiated the first continuous engagement between the peoples of the European and American continents. He brought together diverse cultures previously unknown to each other and sparked a mutually beneficial exchange of goods and ideas. Viewed from either side, his was most certainly a voyage of discovery. Myth: Columbus committed genocide. FACT: Columbus did not commit genocide. He sought to form good relationships with the native peoples of the New World and had no intention of doing them any harm. He had intended to sail to Asia, a land both populous and technologically advanced. His intent was trade and evangelization, not conquest. In exploring and settling the New World, Columbus frequently ordered his men to treat the natives well and not commit injustices or atrocities against them. Columbus punished and even executed some of the settlers who went against his orders and abused the natives. Scholars like Stanford professor emeritus Carol Delaney describe his interactions with the native peoples as generally benign and his motivations as religious; he was not violent, hostile, or cruel to those he encountered. Furthermore, the vast majority of the natives who died in the years after Columbus’ arrival succumbed to communicable diseases inadvertently transmitted by the Europeans rather than from any intentional act on the part of Columbus, his men or the settlers. Myth: Columbus is to be blamed for bringing diseases to the New World that killed many natives. FACT: Inadvertently, Europeans did bring communicable diseases to the New World for which the native peoples had little or no immunity, and great numbers died as a result. Some diseases may also have been spread to the Europeans by the natives. The vast majority of indigenous peoples who died in the years following the European settlement of the New World perished from disease rather than from conflict or abuse at the hands of European settlers. This is a tragic, unintended consequence of the encounter between two cultures, but certainly not something for which Columbus - or anyone else - can be held responsible or culpable. Myth: Columbus introduced slavery to the New World. FACT: “Slavery was common, even among [native] people in the Caribbean,” according to former Stanford anthropologist Carol Delaney. However, slavery was not Columbus’ goal; friendship with the native peoples was. Even today, enemy combatants are often captured and imprisoned, and criminals are often assigned to do manual labor. Myth: Columbus sought to force the natives to work. FACT: Columbus resisted efforts to force the natives to work. He expected his own men to build the settlements, search for natural resources, and perform their own labor. When he consented to using native laborers, he sought to compensate them properly as vassals of the Spanish crown. However, Columbus’ men violated these standards. Facing rebellion and under duress, Columbus allowed a system of labor already instituted by the rebels. Columbus himself is well-documented to have advocated for just treatment of the natives. Myth: Columbus was a brutal man. FACT: Columbus often sought to restrain his men from mistreating the native peoples. In a time when some would question whether the native peoples of America were truly human, Columbus immediately acknowledged their humanity and innate dignity. He recognized them as humans with immortal souls and was concerned for their salvation and their right to choose freely to embrace the Christian faith. He even adopted the son of a native chief as his own son. Myth: Columbus forced his religion on the natives. FACT: Columbus was a devout Christian who desired to introduce the native peoples to Christianity, but he did not force any to convert. He specifically saw the Indians as “a people who would be better freed [from error] and converted to our Holy Faith by love than by force,” as he wrote in his diary. He asked the monarchs and the Pope to send priests who would learn the native language and instruct the people in the Christian faith prior to baptism. Myth: Columbus was arrested and returned to Spain in chains for his cruelty against the natives. FACT: After his third voyage, while he was governor of Hispaniola, Columbus was indeed arrested and taken back to Spain in chains, but it was for actions taken against rebellious European settlers. He had punished and even executed some of the Europeans for abusing the natives. Bartolomé de las Casas, although sometimes critical of aspects of Columbus’ administration, wrote of the “sweetness and benignity” of the explorer and added: “Truly, I would not dare blame the admiral’s intentions, for I know him well and I know his intentions were good.” Myth: Columbus was only after gold, glory and his own self-interest. FACT: Columbus surely desired to be rewarded and recognized for his efforts, but these were not his primary driving motives for his voyages to the New World. His motivations, for the most part, were religious, including the desire to bring Christianity to foreign lands. Myth: Columbus was a poor navigator. FACT: Columbus was a skilled navigator who made an unprecedented voyage across the Atlantic and found the New World. Although Columbus did not reach Asia as he had hoped, his voyages revealed an entire continent previously unknown to the people of Europe. Because he kept journals of his voyages, he blazed a path for other explorers to follow. In addition, Columbus did something none of his contemporaries had done before him: He sailed west into the unknown, found land and returned safely. Myth: Columbus is a symbol of white supremacy. FACT: In fact, the Ku Klux Klan in particular has demonstrated enormous hostility to Columbus because he was Italian and Catholic, rather than Anglo-Saxon and Protestant, which aroused their anti-immigrant and anti-Catholic bigotry. Historically, the KKK actively protested Columbus celebrations and monuments to the explorer.
@@lonestarwolfentertainment7184 yeah and pre visla used flame throwers guns and disks to fight him so maul is the better fighter without the force pre visla wasn’t that skilled at it at all
Maul was actually really fair here. He didn’t use the Force, and allowed Vizsla to use whatever gadgets he had. He could’ve ended the fight by just holding him with the Force and stabbing him, but he proved he had the strength necessary to lead Mandalore.
He did use the force but in minor ways such as a simple force jump and doging lase fire. Maul was fair and only use his skills until Vizla chose to use gadget's. In my eyes this is cheating, and he gave up his right to a proper fight. Maul intended to fight in sword to sword and hand to hand combat. Vizla cheated first by using gadgets. But Maul still chose to use the force so minor to prove himself to Vizla's men.
You are correct, although, if I saw some scary looking dude show up one day, lift my boss up with his mind, and finish him off in 2 seconds, I would be like "aight, I'm with him"
pretty sure maul just did it to humiliate him. lets visla go all all out with his gadgets and weapons, only to unceremoniously pluck them away and quickly outmatch him in basic unarmed combat.
Season 5: Maul kills Vizsla and Satine in this throne room Season 7: "My lady, is that the way to treat your rightful ruler?" I WAS SO MAD I WAS FUMING OH MY GOD! Maul has no right to speak to Bo after what he did!
My favorite thing about this fight is that its one of the very few fights we see in star wars where a sith is fighting fair. Maul uses nothing but his saber and melee combat, allowing visla to use whatever gadgets he had on him. He won this fight completely fairly and honorably. The death watch that dipped out on him after won essentially cheated him on the deal, yet he still goes on and further proves that he is more then strong enough to rule.
Maul is a true Sith Warrior. He doesn't betray his own people, values loyalty, and respects the conditions of honorable combat. He is more of a Sith than Sidious can ever imagine.
@@Mediadosidk about that…The sith are, more or less, defined by betrayal and their search for power. The sith code pretty much says victory must be achieved through any cost. Maul isn’t really a sith, both in name or in his actions. He acts more reminiscent of a more treacherous, dark side oriented Qui Gon or a force guru who faces towards the dark side, especially in his later years; he focuses more on the force, acts with characteristics of both sith and jedi, and does allows both sides to guide him, though he does act and lean significantly closer to the dark side than the light one.
@@irohnic473 The Sith Code dictates to search for power, and through this power achieve victory. It encourages ambition, never to be content but to always strive for more. Most Sith used it as an excuse to do anything they desired and to help themselves only. But technically the Code doesn't tell you to be treacherous, honorless and deceptive. If you want to, you can also search power for the good of a group or to help people. The vast majority of Sith are evil, but the Code is not. You can be Sith without being consumed by the Dark Side, all you have to do is to prove the strength of your way and if you win then no Sith has the right to question it.

I genuinely like the philosophy that Mandalorians apply when it comes to a duel. You can use any methods at your disposal to try and win, the only stipulation is that it has to be one on one. There’s no forced or fake “honor” system where they only fight with a single weapon, it’s a test of the full power of one opponent versus another. That’s what makes Maul’s victory all the more impressive in the eyes of a Mandalorian because he had the power to just instantly snap Vizla’s neck but instead chose to limit himself mostly to just physical attacks yet still came out on top.
the only thing that is not granted is the use of the force, mainly bc mandalorians dont get to have it, so maul plays fair with it and does not use his own power
I really like how Pre Viszla accepts his death at the end and essentially admits that Maul is not only stronger but rightfully earned his right to rule. It shows that even for all his criminal actions, Pre Viszla is still very much an honourable person who genuinely believes in and follows Mandalorian traditions. Contrast that with Gar Saxon who tried to shoot Sabine even when she chose to give him mercy, and it really puts both Mandalorian leaders in perspective. One was a misguided extremist who earned and understood respect, the other was a thug who only gained power by working for someone else.

And I said 'as far as we know aliens don't exist so they are free game for anyone to voice'. And then he goes 'well since the Mandalorians and clones are aliens does that mean anyone can voice them'. I told him 'they are still humans; humans who became part of the Mandalore culture because of their history of conquests and taking children to raise as their own'. This guy just absolutely loses it and starts saying made up excuses about how I'm being a hypocrite and I'm wrong about Mandalorians and that they aren't really human. If you've ever read or heard about Maul's fight with the Yuuzhan Vong warrior in a prison at the edge of galactic space, you'd know that Maul was just too resistant to pain for Vizsla to beat him
Some stuff I noticed about this battle. >Maul challenges Viszla in front of his men: clear audience and an insurance that Viszla will not refuse (it'd make him look like a coward). This is further emphasized with how Viszla exchanges glances with the rest of the Deathwatch: he must answer the challenge, and he knows it, but this cemented it. >Maul fights the whole battle without using Force, save for that single jump that he used to kick Viszla out of air. He's dueling Viszla not as a Dark Jedi, but as "one warrior to another": exactly how he said he would. A show of twisted sportsmanship, but in reality just an insurance that Deathwatch shall willingly acknowledge his claim if he wins. Not only is it a fair fight from his side, but if he's that tremendous without the Force, imagine him with it. Also, despite Viszla using most of his arsenal, Maul doesn't reciprocate, showing that he can beat Viszla while holding back. >During the swordfighting sequences, Maul _never_ uses a standard two-handed grip unless Viszla is also using it. Again, a show of twisted sportsmanship from his side, since using a two-handed grip would make his swings significantly stronger and thus put Viszla, who is wielding a shorter sword and whose armour would impair him from fluid usage of two-handed grip, at a disadvantage. Only exceptions to this are when he's deflecting the blaster bolts that Viszla is firing at him, which kinda makes it a fair game. >Despite being shown to be largely ambidextrous, Maul is still primarily right-handed. During the one-handed sequences, he'll sometimes switch to holding his lightsabre with his left hand, which presents no apparent tactical advantage other than saying "hey look: I'm crippling myself and still kicking his ass" to the onlookers. >When Viszla disarms him, Maul doesn't take his lightsabre back, even without the use of Force, but instead reciprocates by disarming Viszla and injuring his primary hand (almost exactly what Visza did to him), proceeding to beat him into submission bare-handed. >When Maul knees Viszla in the face (second to last blow), he knocks out a molar, which can be seen flying. >Maul's only proper use of the Force is when he telekinetically calls the Darksabre to him. He already showcased his skill in combat and pretty much won, so now there's no need to stifle himself. Now's the time to show some dominance and look epic while doing it. >Because he was shot in his right hand, Maul uses the Darksabre with his left hand as a primary for the rest of the scene. He also doesn't use his right hand at all in the beatdown sequence. >A close look at Maul's lightsabre reveals that he trimmed the jagged edge that was left when Obi-Wan cut his sabrestaff in half back on Naboo. >Maul's Deathwatch are almost comically slow on the trigger.
Brilliant analysis! The only minor quibble I would say is that Maul, while being ambidextrous yes, is canonically left-handed. His actor Ray Park is a leftie and he uses his left hand in most of the swordfights of CW and also just for moments like where he's reaching for something.
The one where he fought Ahsoka was amazing. They actually got Ray Park himself and a professional woman acrobat to act out those fighting scenes and using motion capture technology, animated it so they could make it as realistic as they possibly could. Talk about going the extra mile!

To anyone who says Maul doesn’t qualify for the position of leader because he is not culturally Mandalorian: the time to object to his validity is BEFORE the challenge not after. It’s like having your cake and eating it too. If they felt Maul didn’t meet the criteria, then either Pre Vizla should have refused OR one of the mandalorians should have objected before it. thats still a continuation of his story and he didnt have a lot of screentime in clone wars either but i agree with you that more maul in rebels would be awesome
I like the detail they have in Rebels. It would seem the painting in the background of Satine is the same one Maul has in his lair, just with the eyes scratched out.
Interestingly enough, Maul is a more than fair and honorable warrior. He fought on fair grounds against Pre Visla, not using any force abilities until he was already the clear victor
He did actually use The Force, but only to negate Pre Viszla using his gadgets. You can see that Maul's swings are slower and more realistic. He wasn't using The Force to enhance his speed or strength. I don't think he was using battle cognition either. Otherwise Maul would have instantly won. Instead Maul fought honorably, and only used The Force to deflect blaster bolts, the flamethrower (he dispersed it above him), and to jump high in the air to kick Viszla to the ground after the latter used his jetpack. And those are all completely acceptable. Viszla was more or less "cheating" in a sense.
Another thing interesting about the fight is that Viszla fights dirty. Instead of just a normal lightsaber/sword fight, he tries to beat the crap out of Maul, but as we see during Maul's fight with Palpatine, he doesn't use his fists only his lightsaber(s).
lord omegas right. maul called him out in a duel. interference would make the dual null and void of honor and reward(here being the position of leadership)
To be fair they have more than just blasters, they got cable launchers9don't know what they are called) which they can use to immobilize, flamethrowers, a missile on their back, explosives, etc. mandalorians were armed to the teeth.
I just love how they captured these two's individual fighting style perfectly. Mandalorians are known for their skills and versatility on the battlefield, using a variety of gear and weapons to a masterful degree just like what Vizsla does. While Maul is known for his sheer ferocity and skill, using punches and kicks perfectly with his saber skills. Its just... sublime.
Agree when it comes to maul, who also shows honor by not using the force, but tbh vizla was outright cheating there, tho no one has ever confirmed how the rules for this duel work
@@arikaelseptimo1876 No, in battle and duels most Mandalorians use gadgets and what not, so it's not cheating it's just how a duel works, plus Maul has his force abilities which he could use at any time.
@@spacelavayt7446 again, I speak for myself, I'm not fully aware of what is within the boundaries of the legality during these duels, so, I wouldn't know if Vizla was cheating or not, still respect for maul for not just... Force choking him
@@arikaelseptimo1876 force choking isnt really worth it against near equal opponents since it takes up concentration (and a hand) and takes to long to kill. In that time you're open to counter attacks by blasters etc. which you would have a more difficult time avoiding since you are ocupying your concentration in that moment. Thats my theory at least...
"Unfortunately for you, history will not see it that way" the perfect quote, whoever wins the war writes the history, if you are the highest power you control what people believe, you just have to look into the world wars to see that
I actually felt Maul was kinda cheated by the dissident Mandalorians. They didn't protest when Pre Vizsla agreed to the terms of the challenge, Maul won fair and square without even using the force, and Pre Vizsla even implicitly conceded his rule to him before being beheaded. This is completely legit.
So Bo Katan had no problems taking orders from Pre-Vizla despite having royal blood herself. I think I’m understanding what the Nite Owls believed in. Traditionally anyone who won the darksaber through combat would be worthy to wield it but to the Nite Owls it goes further that they must also have Mandalorian blood. This was again brought up by Axe Woves when he made the comment about Din Jarin being a zealot who does not have a drop of Mandalorian blood in his veins due to the fact he was a foundling and not a descendant of any of the great houses of Mandalore. This could explain why they also supported Bo Katan in defeating Moff Gideon when he had the darksaber instead of following Moff Gideon who wielded it.
And technically one has to go through the ritual of becoming a Mandalorian before being able to challenge the Mandalore, so it was understandable. Maul is not one of them.
However this also shows her hypocrisy. She follows the Death Watch over her own sister who is the elected leader and claims it's because the Mandalorians have lost their old ways. With that the Death Watch and in extension Bo Katan mean the Warrior culture and the main ruling of the old Mandalorians was the Resol'nare six rules they had to follow in order to be a mandalorian, none of those stipulate you have to be born a Mandalorian quite the opposite, old Mandalorians used to be comprised of many different species and you could just adopt their warrior lifestyle and be considered just as much a Mandalorian as one who was born into the culture. Bo Katan refusing to accept Mail as Manda'lore, their leader after he defeated the previous one in a fair fight shows she doesn't respect the old ways she is claiming to follow and all she ever wanted to do was to be in a position of power. She betrayed her sister to become part of the new ruling elite of Manda'lore along with the Death Watch. And when her position was threatened by Maul taking over she rejected her "ideals" and rebelled while joining forces with the Mandalorians sworn enemy the Jedi to dispose of the rightful Manda'lore Maul. And later she does it again with anyone who has the Dark saber who isn't her and is not opposed to getting the role of leader without following Mandalorian tradition, meaning by winning it in combat.
What’s her development abandoning the code? She literally just betrays every faction she is in and everyone she is close to. She betrays her sister, manipulates pre to betray maul getting him killed , betrays mauls after he wins fair lawful duel she causes, and then the people of mandolore completely by having the republic invade the planet cause she won’t fight maul 1v1 putting the planet under the empire’s rule causing a purge that almost wipes out her people and her culture. She a terrible person and never learns a god damn thing. Pre and her sister are pretty bad leaders of the mandos but I gotta say bo is probably the worst of them all. They are bad because they are incompetent and abandon the mando code and principals. Bo is bad because she a cunt, a traitor, and is responsible to the worst things in mando history. At least the other two try to make mandolore a better place. You know It’s bad when maul is the best leader of the mandos in the clone wars.

Maul didn't use the force to enhance his abilities what so ever. He did it purely with skill. Otherwise it would only take Maul like 2 swings to kill Visla.
But then soon after this, maul gets destroyed like a rookie by sidious. 😁

Bartolomé de las Casas, although sometimes critical of aspects of Columbus’ administration, wrote of the “sweetness and benignity” of the explorer and added: “Truly, I would not dare blame the admiral’s intentions, for I know him well and I know his intentions were good.”
Myth: Columbus was only after gold, glory and his own self-interest.

Maul is more skilled in lightsaber combat than pre, so he had experience & training with the blade, pre already lost from the moment his and maul's blades clash
@@gregtietze5126 That's right but we have to give him some credit in this fight, you can tell how much he improved from when he fought Kenobi to this fight. Despite not having proper training on actual lightsaber combat that sith and jedi have he sure was one formidable warrior with the blade.

He is more honorable than Fucking Bo Katan

@@user-pu1rv5ck5b Vizsla, though an ultranationalist warmonger, was still bound by honor and the tenets of Mandalorian culture. I just had this ridiculous argument with a guy who actually thought Mandalorians weren't humans but aliens that just happen to look human. All because someone was whining about how white people can no longer voice cartoon characters that are poc. When the guy mistakingly said the clones were white and voiced by poc, and I corrected him because the actor of Jango Fett was Maori. This other random person (I don't know what he was thinking), started going off about how 'only aliens should voice alien characters'.
@@Raul_Menendez Yeah a LOT of honor during World War Two. The lesson there being don’t mess with marines.
He was one big asshole sob but I will give him that.
@CaptainBean88 yeah no one cares
Yeah sorry I'm not reading that.
Epic. Maul is really something :)
Brilliant analysis! The only minor quibble I would say is that Maul, while being ambidextrous yes, is canonically left-handed. His actor Ray Park is a leftie and he uses his left hand in most of the swordfights of CW and also just for moments like where he's reaching for something.

@@aguywithalotofopinions412 Racist always find reasons why foreigners aren't worthy.

To be fair they have more than just blasters, they got cable launchers9don't know what they are called) which they can use to immobilize, flamethrowers, a missile on their back, explosives, etc.
mandalorians were armed to the teeth.
0:34 -- I cannot get over the growl Maul does when he ignites his lightsaber. Makes him seem more like a feral animal than anything else
Force choking him
@@arikaelseptimo1876 Ok
@@arikaelseptimo1876 force choking isnt really worth it against near equal opponents since it takes up concentration (and a hand) and takes to long to kill. In that time you're open to counter attacks by blasters etc. which you would have a more difficult time avoiding since you are ocupying your concentration in that moment.
Thats my theory at least...
"Unfortunately for you, history will not see it that way" the perfect quote, whoever wins the war writes the history, if you are the highest power you control what people believe, you just have to look into the world wars to see that
Pretty much the facts of the matter.......
fuck you all
yeah that reminds me of doflamingo from one piece
"History is written by the Victor"
"The greatest story never told"
I actually felt Maul was kinda cheated by the dissident Mandalorians. They didn't protest when Pre Vizsla agreed to the terms of the challenge, Maul won fair and square without even using the force, and Pre Vizsla even implicitly conceded his rule to him before being beheaded. This is completely legit.
Even so, the whole point of being a dissident is precisely... to go against established rules.
Yep, nothing like sore losers to ruin a victory.
Yeah Bo is just a really sore loser
They're terrorists and cowards, honor only means anything to them when they're winning.
They’re bitches
I like the sound of the mandalorian blaster pistols.
The Raven
They're unique, and awesome
reptilan not really, the make the same sound as jango fetts pistols
The lord of the sith well, I mean compared to other blasters, besides Jango's
Jango was the madnalorian leader tho
***** I think so. Atleast the sounds are very similiar.
Show: The most important part in this scene is Bo-Katans character development.
Internet: Unfortunately for you, history won't see it that way.
@@ONEIL311 Character development does not mean improvement, but rather change. And as you pointed out: this is the moment which made the old rites of Mandalor.
@@ONEIL311 i hope she dies in the mandalorian
