While the difference in performance here was because of GPU vs CPU encoding, it's also worth noting that two different GPU encoders will produce outputs of different quality. So TECHNICALLY, if we REALLY want to know what's going on, we need to use a tool like VMAF to compare both video outputs back to the source file, and then we will know which video output LOOKS better (meaning it's more accurate). Keep up the good work!
Yes I would. It seems to work well for basic editing. You will want to only run one app at a time otherwise you will thrash the memory. You should also work from an external drive to save wear on the internal drive.
Thank you the comparison. Do you think it is ok to use Davinci, Denhancer on the Macbook air m1 base model... for basic video editing for a hobbyist? I am using a Canon Eos M with Magic Lantern to do simple shots for myself (travels, family), but often in 10/12/14 bit)? Currently I have an Alienware18 (8 years old) with Linux on it (I am only using Linux until now), so Davinci doesn't even recognize my old GPUs. I have other computers at home but all old with Linux on them. Would you have any other suggestions ?
I think with what you are describing is at the limit or slightly above what I would be comfortable doing…. Sounds like your doing 4k with other background operations. The M1 is capable but the RAM and SSD on the base MacBook air is likely not enough. I would say 16 gigs ram minimum and either stock HD with judicious use of an external drive or bump up to a 1 Tb drive. My biggest issue with current mac’s is the soldered on components that don’t allow you to grow with your computer….

Nice
Would u suggest macbook air m1 base model for 1080 p video editing + davinci?

@@mbwoodbutcher Thank you.
@@mbwoodbutcher thanks :)
is it all using the free version of davinci resolve?
Yes, it is with the free version. I get the feeling if I used the paid version that 4070 would encode pretty fast!!
