I worked for John Deere Dealer here in Augusta,GA and the owners didn't have any of the specialty tools we needed, so we were always having to make tools to do the job. We didn't even have any stands for splitting a tractor. There were 2 mechanics there one had been there 5 years and one had been there one year. After less than one year I was the lead mechanic because the other two had quit. I worked there 2 years then torn my rotator cuff and was laid off. That place had an unbelievably high employee turn over. In my 2 years there I saw over 30 people come and go. When you have a turn over like that management has problems.

Nothing better than beating big companies and their "specialised tools". How many time I've been told you need this tool at that tool, or, only the dealership has them, to make my own way of doing the job. I have to say thanks to my dad for the ingenuity. I'm still learning from him. Way to go Wes.

Beside the point IMHO... it wasn't HIM asking for the tool... it was Wes. Yeah, they know who's got what in the area, who's "one of their best customers" and who's "not", and they were probably the ones that did the half-ass job slapping it back together when the owner said he couldn't afford to have them fix it for $12 grand. SO, they're pissed that he didn't bend over and grab his ankles for them to take $12 grand from him, (or ass rape him for even more selling him a new(er) tractor) so they want to "freeze him out" by making it as difficult as possible for him and anybody who's trying to fix it for him, just to "teach them a lesson" or try to force his hand into buying something new(er). It's not JUST Deere that does this sort of shit. A lot of it depends on the local dealer, but MOST dealers would probably give you the same song and dance and leave you hanging. Corporate (regardless of brand) is the same way and not going to help you. In fact they encourage that sort of thing to force you to buy new. So you get PO'd and switch brands-- so what-- someone else with a different brand will get PO'd over the same thing and probably buy their brand next time, and they laugh all the way to the bank. Deere IS troublingly bad about it, though... as reflected by their recent attitudes about allowing customers or outsiders to work on "their" proprietary software... basically their attitude reflects their position that even though they SELL you a machine, you never really OWN it-- they just permit you to keep it and use it, but it's never really YOURS, even though you paid for it. They maintain the position that *they* are the TRUE owners and you cannot play with THEIR computers and software and stuff, even though YOU own the machine. That SERIOUSLY needs to change... But Deere has had a big ego for a LONG time-- read about the Deere/Kinze planter battles years ago... Later! OL J R :)
When U go to put this back together U might try and pack those bushings in Dry Ice to shrink them down so they fit loose.. We did the same thing on an A7 Corsair when we had to replace the wing bolts.. They were a special close tolerence bolt..
I imagine the actual tool consists of a long bolt for the pins then a hydraulic ram with a hole in the centre and some spacers. that type or ram would've been brilliant here! Michael Reggie uses the ram i'm talking about :) It's fantastic.

Wesley you spend a ton of money on parts from JD I would defiantly tell them to shove that wind-rower up there ass. You need to look into changing over to something that will go down the road faster like JCB I think they go almost 40 mph. Have a great day!!!
Suggest the following: 1. Immediately cancel the mower. 2. Write regional and headquarters a letter explaining the whole situation. Dealerships can be pulled. 3. Find another dealer or switch tractors. Several years ago I had a lawn mower dealer refuse to accept by credit card because the charge was less than $50 (which is not allowed). I walked out and drove 5 miles and bought the gas can at another dealer.

congrats on beating jd's engineers they are like the automotive engineers they design it so you have to take it to the dealer to have the work done to it but as hank jr sang "country boy can survive"
John Deere here local is fairly good about loaning me tools to work on my own tractors, but would not loan them to me to make a profit working on some one else's. Welding on a specialty bolt is a bad Idea could cause micro fracturing of the bolt or the metal around it from overheating. It is better to use a hydraulic ram and if needed draw out the tool and have fabricated at a machine shop.
I do my own bicycle repairs and a headset cup press was £55 i bought a length of threaded rod and two nuts and also used two dished washers and two large sockets as spacers and this homemade tool presses the cups back into the headstock total cost for the threaded rod and bar? £2.50 cost of the washers and sockets nothing as they were in my junk box you know the box you throw bits and bobs into in the hope that one day something will be useful
That is how you pull the anchor pins on the bottom of the brake shoes on Allis Chalmers WD, WD45, and D series tractor. Drill a hole down the center big enough for a half inch fine thread bolt, spacer it up, hit it with the impact and heat it up with the rose bud. Sometimes you have to wait a few minutes but eventually they give it up and let loose. Then coat them with anti-seize when going back together. Always anti- seize the crap out of nuts and bolts on Harvestore unloaders.

John Deere here sucks too. There are a bunch in the area and they are all under the same owner. They also don't like you trying to go to another in an other town. I get "well we are not really you're dealership ". Unfortunately Kubota is taking over here.
I would cancel all dealings with JD for that. If they are going to say "no you can't get that tool" then i would say "no, you can't get my money" and additionally i would share my disgust with the rest of the world over it. Money talks.

when I worked at JD to access trans the cab or Op station was hinged and you removed RH tire and the cab tipped off to one side for you to access trans removal from the top.
I have received bills from John Deere dealer for thousands. He would bill petty little things such as washers rather than hiding them in the outrageous bill. Maybe the same fate that came to the outrageously expensive wrecker companies will happen in the parts industry.It has already started in tyre and seats which are down 70 percent do to the internet and the ability for small suppliers to specialise.
the bubbles are getting to their point, it will slowly start and then it could be a landslide. thats why the bigger guys need to start to worry and the parts/ yards that take the wrecked ones and recondition things are having such a hay day anymore as well as the aftermarket parts section.
Yep if they take a fair margin like 20 percent it would keep the dealer competitive to take the parts from the postman.the labour rate is similar to what a doctor charges .
Michael O Callaghan you can't keep the dealership doors open on 20% for the parts business. 20% margin on rolling equipment would be nice! Dealerships have high overhead. Training and tooling is an ass kicker. Manufacturers sell tooling to dealerships and that stuff is hig priced (because they can). You pay mechanics wages while they train or sit idle and because they're not on a paying customer job, that's an expense to the dealer. It takes big bucks to run a dealership.
Gee Dubb Fair enough then dealers parts are going to be under cut.The reason that mechanics need training is largely crated by manufacture. Most things can be still replaced with the same method u would replace the top of a bottle of coke. If things get any more complicated than an i phone then there is an opening to make things more strait forward and it will be filled .
Had Similar Issues with Deere Dealers in our area. Won't return calls, e-mails, etc. Go in there for help and all you get is, "bring it in and we will take a look at it for $90/hr". Oh, and if you don't walk in there with part numbers in hand, you might as well forget about getting what you need. Long story sort, cause I could go on and on, I switched to Massey Ferguson in December, at least they seem to care so far. Deere Dealers around here rather sell a yuppie Lawn mower than help any farmers, especially smaller farmers like me. But, if you want to buy a $300K Combine or something, then they are all ears. What Gives? Deere better listen up or AGCO is going be on top before long. My 2 cents worth.
Hey Wes, While you were cranking down on your homemade puller with the air gun, I was wondering if it might have gone a little easier if you have put some heat on the outside of the casting. Unless you had to worry about burning up some seals or something else, I think the heat would have helped. -mike
Wow, what a cross section of feelings displayed in all the comments. I have been on both sides of the issue, and understand how misunderstood this situation has become. I would have recommended walking straight over to my salesman and asking him if I could borrow, or buy the tool. Dealers have 3 distinct and non comunicative divisions. Parts, Service, and Sales. In this case, parts thought it would be fine to loan the tool, when they went back and asked Service for it, they were turned away, tool guy makes up creative excuse to defuse issue with customer. Story comes apart, parts kid looks like liar, and reflects poorly on entire dealership. Wes is pissed at catching his nice parts guy fibbing, nice parts guy is pissed at hard ass in service, hard ass in service has been burnt loaning tools to nice customers. We left out Sales Dept. How could we have left them out of this issue? Oh, lets crap on them by ditzing the sale of Windrower, without them even knowing why? I am sure that the Salesman would have bought Wes a brand new tool, if he knew what was going on. (after all, what is a $300 tool, when the sale of a windrower is in the balance?) Too bad it is too late now to go to the salesman and let him know about the issue, so he could play his hand and EITHER buy Wes a new tool, and be the hero. Or earn the abuse he is sure to get from Wes, next week. It is too late for it to turn out better, without Wes cussing them out in public, and having hurt feelings. And too late for the salesman to have Wes on his way home with a warm and fuzzy feeling about everything.
You are absolutely right about threatening the JD dealer with the wind-rower deal. Just from watching your videos they have to consider you to be a good customer and the shop should loan you anything you need. As they said they don't do many of those jobs. That's just wrong. But, with your determination you defeated John Deere.
Here's my JD story. I had a 6415 which I purchased new in 2007. In Feb. of last year, the injector pump failed, fuel lines started leaking....again... The tractor had just under 1500 hrs. on it. JD came, picked up my tractor and repaired those items and a couple other knit picky things I wanted fixed. They had it about two weeks. They called me on a Monday and said my tractor was done. The were going to deliver it the next day and would call me when they were on their way. There is a big snow storm coming Wednesday, and I need the tractor for blowing snow. I call the dealer Tuesday at 1:30 pm and ask about my tractor. Guy says their truck got stopped and failed a DOT inspection. They don't know when they'll deliver my tractor. WTF! Long story short: I drove down there, paid the bill, chewed some ass, and drove it two hrs. home.
Wes, you should have taken pictures of all your John Deere tractors and equipment and sent it to the CEO of the company. These guys at JD have no idea how much money you spend with them year after year for parts and how you praise their stuff. Don't let it get to you, and enjoy your "well deserved, upcoming" vacation.
Contact the main headquarters for Deere and speak with the head manager. Give them names from your local dealer or the dealer you went too, then inform them that if the HQ can't or won't fix this problem with the dealer, just tell them, you'll be in contact with the BBB, (better business bureau). For Deere to "not" see any specialty tools is a lie. You can order any special tool or parts from Deere. My local dealer has done this for me in the past. Usually pay a pretty high price through Deere or end up waiting a few days for it to arrive but, never had an issue with the 2 dealers I've dealt with.
being a farmer and finding myself up the creek from time to time I would go to a good machine shop and give them the spec for that tool and let them make it for me. Sometimes spend a little money is for peace of mind (been there and done that lol)
I would imagine the JD tool would work by screwing a rod into the sleeve and then having an impact block, like a slide hammer to draw the sleeve out, it wouldn't be made to rely on the sleeve thread to pull it out, Good thing is its out, good job done,
***** Yes you can. A 7000 series you have to remove the whole back end. The 6000 series you can lift the transmission out when you remove the platform. The ones with cab you have to swing the cab to the right. You can rebuild the complete backend without removing it.
It took me an hour a pin with the deere tool mine had loctite on the pin. The jd dealer let me borrow the tool no problems sometimes you get lucky I guess good video!!
You should add a complete list and price of parts you bought and future order of mower and mail your situation to dealership owner and if no response then I would find a different dealer.
Terrific video. Having got those pins out you have of course to put them back and that will be interesting! However it is extremely small minded and pathetic of them to refuse to hire you the special tool for that task, no doubt though he who laughs last will laugh longest - I cannot imagine that you will forget this incident in a hurry! One wonders what other horrors you will find when you get inside the transmission!!

Wes, I do not think JD in general is the issue here. Your local dealer is probably a little butt hurt you are doing the job and not them. I am willing to bet a call to JD corporate about the lack of help you are getting from them will get results. I have done this several times with major corporations and have had positive results (Samsung, Time Warner, etc). Perhaps a little arm twisting about leaving JD will yield some discounts on the new windrower.
You got the idea... tell them your taking all or your purchasing decisions elsewhere and go out of your way to buy your necessary Deere parts from another dealer. Speak with your dollars my friend...

Wes I agree with one viewer it was you dealer the one here in my area of Ohio would have came to you to for instance the man I was working for that farms grandparents place we were taking corn off at 8 pm at night and jd sts combine broke down and called them up after hours mind you they came out to field to fix it that night also came out for the 8400 jd mfwd also that tractor had duals on it and pulled a kilbros grain cart to load trucks
Wes I know you use a lot of jd parts and need them quick sometime but I think I would tell that dealership to stick the windrower up there everloving ass I would drive 100 miles if I had to and order from someone else, I knew you would get those pins out one way or the other because you don't give up.

One mistake you made using an impact wrench it is a good way of pulling the threads when using a bolt to pull a pin, slow and steady wins the race use a ratchet or flex bar. Like I said in a comment on another video John Deere is going to be pissy at you because you are fixing this tractor and they are not they know damn well what tractor you are working on. It will be an ass ache for the whole duration of the project getting parts.
Also welding the nut on there expanded the pin....sticking it in the hole even worse. Hopefully he let it cool before he tried to pull it out. I like to screw a long threaded bolt into a pin like that and use a nut on the outside to jack it out. He could have done the same by welding a bolt on head first with the bolt pointing out and then use a nut with the impact.
Hi, Why not get a fellow You Tuber, say Keith Fenner, Toubalcain or Keith Rucker to cut a few bolts and then sell the puller on ebay. That would make you feel you were getting even.
I also wanted to add, if they did lend you the tool, how would you show other farmers how to side step the same problem? You just might have saved other farmers a ton of money by making this video! Think about it. Great video!
You should tell John deere that since they wouldn't loan you a tool for a couple hours/day, that you don't trust them to supply a proper windrower, so they can keep the one you ordered, you'll just go to krone for a big m..... ;)
You did not have to take them out! just the cab, fuel tank (easy acces) power quad, creeper, ranges a/f, etc.... and of course (if nessacary) the pinion shaft.
You could have made the tool if they let you look at it for 2 minutes there bolt had longer threads and a nut so you thread the bolt in and use the nut to pull with, they pull hard
The reasonable thing for the dealer to have done is rent it to you (or anyone for that matter) with a deposit. To lie to you,well that's pretty weak and low class.
The dealer in Asheville NC was just as big of an ass. Then they changed hands and now they are not too bad. In this area CAT is the best but they cost big bucks.

Did you contact the guy selling you the new mower to let him know that you were reconsidering because of the special tools required to fix deere products that your dealership is unwilling to loan you?
congrats on beating jd's engineers they are like the automotive engineers they design it so you have to take it to the dealer to have the work done to it but as hank jr sang "country boy can survive"
John Deere here local is fairly good about loaning me tools to work on my own tractors, but would not loan them to me to make a profit working on some one else's.
Welding on a specialty bolt is a bad Idea could cause micro fracturing of the bolt or the metal around it from overheating.
It is better to use a hydraulic ram and if needed draw out the tool and have fabricated at a machine shop.

I do my own bicycle repairs and a headset cup press was £55 i bought a length of threaded rod and two nuts and also used two dished washers and two large sockets as spacers and this homemade tool presses the cups back into the headstock total cost for the threaded rod and bar? £2.50 cost of the washers and sockets nothing as they were in my junk box you know the box you throw bits and bobs into in the hope that one day something will be useful
That is how you pull the anchor pins on the bottom of the brake shoes on Allis Chalmers WD, WD45, and D series tractor. Drill a hole down the center big enough for a half inch fine thread bolt, spacer it up, hit it with the impact and heat it up with the rose bud. Sometimes you have to wait a few minutes but eventually they give it up and let loose. Then coat them with anti-seize when going back together. Always anti- seize the crap out of nuts and bolts on Harvestore unloaders.
They the same here in central Ontario. Lost millions in sales to other colours.I asked some guys why they didn t buy green since that's all they have owned and said to hard to deal with.
John Deere here sucks too. There are a bunch in the area and they are all under the same owner. They also don't like you trying to go to another in an other town. I get "well we are not really you're dealership ". Unfortunately Kubota is taking over here.
A good machinist and a good fabricator would make life much easier at that point.
I would cancel all dealings with JD for that. If they are going to say "no you can't get that tool" then i would say "no, you can't get my money" and additionally i would share my disgust with the rest of the world over it.

Besides, if some equipment requires a specialty tool that's bad enough. If it requires a specialty tool that you CANNOT BUY, CANNOT RENT and CANNOT LOAN then that is *DISASTROUS*.
I have no problems with the dealer wanting to make a dollar, it's all business. But if the ONLY way to get something done is through a monopoly then that is where i draw the line.
Sure, Wes managed to get the thing out anyways but if it were me i would strike JD from all future business until they fix their issues.
As for lawsuits, that's a US thing. It's an illness you people have. It's gotten so bad that if some idiot were to trip on his/her own foot while standing on a pavement you laid they can sue you because it's your pavement.
And nobody seems to see the problem with it.
If a customer were to sue some dealer over their misuse of a tool the dealer should be able to counter sue because the lender was stupider than he/she portrayed himself to be. For double the amount of the first claim. Then they can keep countersuing until the US sues Russia for having more land and Russia sueing the US for having more money.
***** Yes. I would hate to work on another piece of equipment and have to run to john Deere all for them to lie to me about the special tool not being available. Once a lier always a lier. They used special threads too which is annoying. I get that the dealer is trying "to take care of you" but to have to use special tools that only John Deere has is terrible. A monopoly sort of like the other guy said. It would be like you can only buy this new special fuel that only John Deere sells. No. No. No. It might not always be convenient to drive to John Deere to get something as simple as fuel. Plus then John Deere has all control over your fuel that your machine runs. There's no competition.

***** Yeah i agree that the dealer is not JD and JD isn't the dealer but in the end it still boils down to that JD has designed the tractor in such a way that one needs a specialty tool for no other reason but for JD to be in control of who can and cannot do something to that piece of equipment.
And the dealer is "trusted by JD" to represent them. JD can hurt the dealer more than a single customer can.
Wow that was a pain in the ass. Nice job getting by with out the right tool. It sure would have helped, but like you said theres more than one way to skin a cat.

when I worked at JD to access trans the cab or Op station was hinged and you removed RH tire and the cab tipped off to one side for you to access trans removal from the top.
I have received bills from John Deere dealer for thousands. He would bill petty little things such as washers rather than hiding them in the outrageous bill. Maybe the same fate that came to the outrageously expensive wrecker companies will happen in the parts industry.It has already started in tyre and seats which are down 70 percent do to the internet and the ability for small suppliers to specialise.
the bubbles are getting to their point, it will slowly start and then it could be a landslide. thats why the bigger guys need to start to worry and the parts/ yards that take the wrecked ones and recondition things are having such a hay day anymore as well as the aftermarket parts section.
Yep if they take a fair margin like 20 percent it would keep the dealer competitive to take the parts from the postman.the labour rate is similar to what a doctor charges .
Michael O Callaghan you can't keep the dealership doors open on 20% for the parts business. 20% margin on rolling equipment would be nice! Dealerships have high overhead. Training and tooling is an ass kicker. Manufacturers sell tooling to dealerships and that stuff is hig priced (because they can). You pay mechanics wages while they train or sit idle and because they're not on a paying customer job, that's an expense to the dealer. It takes big bucks to run a dealership.
Gee Dubb Fair enough then dealers parts are going to be under cut.The reason that mechanics need training is largely crated by manufacture. Most things can be still replaced with the same method u would replace the top of a bottle of coke. If things get any more complicated than an i phone then there is an opening to make things more strait forward and it will be filled .

Had Similar Issues with Deere Dealers in our area. Won't return calls, e-mails, etc. Go in there for help and all you get is, "bring it in and we will take a look at it for $90/hr". Oh, and if you don't walk in there with part numbers in hand, you might as well forget about getting what you need. Long story sort, cause I could go on and on, I switched to Massey Ferguson in December, at least they seem to care so far. Deere Dealers around here rather sell a yuppie Lawn mower than help any farmers, especially smaller farmers like me. But, if you want to buy a $300K Combine or something, then they are all ears. What Gives? Deere better listen up or AGCO is going be on top before long. My 2 cents worth.

While you were cranking down on your homemade puller with the air gun, I was wondering if it might have gone a little easier if you have put some heat on the outside of the casting. Unless you had to worry about burning up some seals or something else, I think the heat would have helped.

Wow, what a cross section of feelings displayed in all the comments. I have been on both sides of the issue, and understand how misunderstood this situation has become. I would have recommended walking straight over to my salesman and asking him if I could borrow, or buy the tool.
Dealers have 3 distinct and non comunicative divisions. Parts, Service, and Sales. In this case, parts thought it would be fine to loan the tool, when they went back and asked Service for it, they were turned away, tool guy makes up creative excuse to defuse issue with customer. Story comes apart, parts kid looks like liar, and reflects poorly on entire dealership. Wes is pissed at catching his nice parts guy fibbing, nice parts guy is pissed at hard ass in service, hard ass in service has been burnt loaning tools to nice customers.
We left out Sales Dept. How could we have left them out of this issue? Oh, lets crap on them by ditzing the sale of Windrower, without them even knowing why? I am sure that the Salesman would have bought Wes a brand new tool, if he knew what was going on. (after all, what is a $300 tool, when the sale of a windrower is in the balance?)
Too bad it is too late now to go to the salesman and let him know about the issue, so he could play his hand and EITHER buy Wes a new tool, and be the hero. Or earn the abuse he is sure to get from Wes, next week.
It is too late for it to turn out better, without Wes cussing them out in public, and having hurt feelings. And too late for the salesman to have Wes on his way home with a warm and fuzzy feeling about everything.

You are absolutely right about threatening the JD dealer with the wind-rower deal. Just from watching your videos they have to consider you to be a good customer and the shop should loan you anything you need. As they said they don't do many of those jobs. That's just wrong. But, with your determination you defeated John Deere.

Here's my JD story. I had a 6415 which I purchased new in 2007. In Feb. of last year, the injector pump failed, fuel lines started leaking....again... The tractor had just under 1500 hrs. on it.
JD came, picked up my tractor and repaired those items and a couple other knit picky things I wanted fixed. They had it about two weeks.
They called me on a Monday and said my tractor was done. The were going to deliver it the next day and would call me when they were on their way.
There is a big snow storm coming Wednesday, and I need the tractor for blowing snow.
I call the dealer Tuesday at 1:30 pm and ask about my tractor. Guy says their truck got stopped and failed a DOT inspection. They don't know when they'll deliver my tractor. WTF!
Long story short:
I drove down there, paid the bill, chewed some ass, and drove it two hrs. home.
Wes, you should have taken pictures of all your John Deere tractors and equipment and sent it to the CEO of the company. These guys at JD have no idea how much money you spend with them year after year for parts and how you praise their stuff. Don't let it get to you, and enjoy your "well deserved, upcoming" vacation.
Contact the main headquarters for Deere and speak with the head manager. Give them names from your local dealer or the dealer you went too, then inform them that if the HQ can't or won't fix this problem with the dealer, just tell them, you'll be in contact with the BBB, (better business bureau). For Deere to "not" see any specialty tools is a lie. You can order any special tool or parts from Deere. My local dealer has done this for me in the past. Usually pay a pretty high price through Deere or end up waiting a few days for it to arrive but, never had an issue with the 2 dealers I've dealt with.
Got to have at least two welders. Be able to fix or make any thing you'll need. Hey tim show use your welding skills?? Keep warm - 4 in Wisconsin
being a farmer and finding myself up the creek from time to time I would go to a good machine shop and give them the spec for that tool and let them make it for me. Sometimes spend a little money is for peace of mind (been there and done that lol)

I would imagine the JD tool would work by screwing a rod into the sleeve and then having an impact block, like a slide hammer to draw the sleeve out, it wouldn't be made to rely on the sleeve thread to pull it out,

So what you basically need is a big ass pivot pin puller like they use on tilt steering columns
Why pull the rear out? Take off the platform and you can get to every piece of the transmission.

***** Yes you can. A 7000 series you have to remove the whole back end. The 6000 series you can lift the transmission out when you remove the platform. The ones with cab you have to swing the cab to the right. You can rebuild the complete backend without removing it.

It took me an hour a pin with the deere tool mine had loctite on the pin. The jd dealer let me borrow the tool no problems sometimes you get lucky I guess good video!!
You should add a complete list and price of parts you bought and future order of mower and mail your situation to dealership owner and if no response then I would find a different dealer.

However it is extremely small minded and pathetic of them to refuse to hire you the special tool for that task, no doubt though he who laughs last will laugh longest - I cannot imagine that you will forget this incident in a hurry!

thats really shitty that someone that i assume spent upwards of a million dollars at the complany cant loan you a simple tool for the day. what a shame. the problem probably lies in that you are so close to nyc that you probably have city people running that JD branch.
Wes, I do not think JD in general is the issue here. Your local dealer is probably a little butt hurt you are doing the job and not them. I am willing to bet a call to JD corporate about the lack of help you are getting from them will get results. I have done this several times with major corporations and have had positive results (Samsung, Time Warner, etc). Perhaps a little arm twisting about leaving JD will yield some discounts on the new windrower.
You got the idea... tell them your taking all or your purchasing decisions elsewhere and go out of your way to buy your necessary Deere parts from another dealer. Speak with your dollars my friend...
Time for a new frigging dealer! The one we get our equipment will bend over backwards to help us, the owner come in on independence day a few years ago to get us a part that had broke and shut us down making hay
I love how they say they aren't in the business of renting or lending it's called customer service and that's the business of anybody who sells anything so yes Wes I'd call the higher ups at jd and let them know about your experience and their support system they have going on in nj for one of their better customers.

Wes I agree with one viewer it was you dealer the one here in my area of Ohio would have came to you to for instance the man I was working for that farms grandparents place we were taking corn off at 8 pm at night and jd sts combine broke down and called them up after hours mind you they came out to field to fix it that night also came out for the 8400 jd mfwd also that tractor had duals on it and pulled a kilbros grain cart to load trucks

Wes I know you use a lot of jd parts and need them quick sometime but I think I would tell that dealership to stick the windrower up there everloving ass I would drive 100 miles if I had to and order from someone else, I knew you would get those pins out one way or the other because you don't give up.
Use the 27 mm bolts that go in there to pull it. Same pipe just use the bolt.

John Deere really changed over the years...10 years ago the dealer would do anything to help you...Now its totally different there sitting on there name. Cant believe they didnt loan you this tool..And cant believe they didnt gAve you a discount on your 4960 parts...
You need a friend with a lathe... to make that special bolt.
One mistake you made using an impact wrench it is a good way of pulling the threads when using a bolt to pull a pin, slow and steady wins the race use a ratchet or flex bar. Like I said in a comment on another video John Deere is going to be pissy at you because you are fixing this tractor and they are not they know damn well what tractor you are working on. It will be an ass ache for the whole duration of the project getting parts.
Also welding the nut on there expanded the pin....sticking it in the hole even worse. Hopefully he let it cool before he tried to pull it out. I like to screw a long threaded bolt into a pin like that and use a nut on the outside to jack it out. He could have done the same by welding a bolt on head first with the bolt pointing out and then use a nut with the impact.
I'd use the impact too, but lots of anti-seize on the threads.

Hi, Why not get a fellow You Tuber, say Keith Fenner, Toubalcain or Keith Rucker to cut a few bolts and then sell the puller on ebay. That would make you feel you were getting even.
I also wanted to add, if they did lend you the tool, how would you show other farmers how to side step the same problem? You just might have saved other farmers a ton of money by making this video! Think about it. Great video!

You should tell John deere that since they wouldn't loan you a tool for a couple hours/day, that you don't trust them to supply a proper windrower, so they can keep the one you ordered, you'll just go to krone for a big m..... ;)
You did not have to take them out! just the cab, fuel tank (easy acces) power quad, creeper, ranges a/f, etc.... and of course (if nessacary) the pinion shaft.
You could have made the tool if they let you look at it for 2 minutes there bolt had longer threads and a nut so you thread the bolt in and use the nut to pull with, they pull hard
The reasonable thing for the dealer to have done is rent it to you (or anyone for that matter) with a deposit. To lie to you,well that's pretty weak and low class.

On my Parents farm we have basically the same tractor the only thing different is the motor and the decal area is 6715 with 300 and some hours
1st thing I thought of was f*kc John Deere and taped my own threads and negating special tools, but You did end up doing it, cheer's to ya...
The dealer in Asheville NC was just as big of an ass. Then they changed hands and now they are not too bad. In this area CAT is the best but they cost big bucks.
