    I think you can design and build a new pickup for the New Holland, then they can pay you for the modification. Winter is coming up, good time for a good project.

    I really appreciate your in depth detail on all your equipment and reviews. I grew up picking up hay for others, small square bales, and all I want now is to get my own hay field some day. I can't help it. I love it, no matter how hot, dirty and annoying it can be. Keep up the good work.

    This last summer I went to a hay demo a day after it rained and it was still somewhat raining and they had a JD baler out there and it still ran like a beast just the bales were wet and heavy, John Deere made a nice baler and I heard Claus also had a part of that baler too

    Hi Glad you got a positive experience from the demo. Crop gathering wheels are good if the are designed and work right for the baler. I put them on my 688 round baler this year, they need a little modification for my liking, maybe the same twit designed them and your pickup L.O.L.
    I could bale straw swaths as wide or wider than the front wheels of the tractor, and leave the field clean. There is less mechanical parts than a mega wide 780 or 780A baler pick up doing it that way. lots of guys are having big problems with the first gen mega wides on Holland balers. Thats why i went slightly older and fitted the wheels. A lot of straw I baled this year wouldn't of gone through my pickup without them. Best $750 for used wheels and brackets I ever spent, when I do a few tweaks to them they would be worth $1000 for the hassle they saved me.
    Regards Robert

    the tenant that rents my 9 acres behind the house is set up with John Deere R and D. Takes him about 15 minutes to till the area. He farms thousands of acres and has two guys hired to operate the tractor 24/7 during Harvest and Planting. He leases the newest largest Tracked tractor and runs it for a year before they take it back and tear it down to see how the parts play with each other. It sounds like you are a good location choice to place a machine for evaluation

    sadly i don't know much about hay balers , but that L340 baler sounded less noisy than what i have seen from your BB340
    really funny thing is just a couple days ago i just discovered i have a neighbor who bought a BB340 cropcutter and he has had exactly the same Woes as you with the pickup system
    he bales a lot of Sileage ,cornstalks ,etc and it doesn't like eating that heavy stuff
    I mentioned your youtube channel to him as a way of dealing with the problem ,so he can see how you have fixed yours,,,and he even had the same Precharge fork repair too

    The NH's problem is the bale chamber capacity has far surpassed the pickup's ability to feed it that heavy hay you make. The smaller pickup on the JD was the FIRST thing I noticed. Are you able to adjust your rake to compensate? Cause i could imagine leaving hay behind on the sides of those gigantic windrows you roll up. Other than that, you were flat flying through that hay. The million dollar question is, "Is it built heavy enough to withstand the large volume of tough hay you produce?" You may find that nobody has built a "Wes Pandy-Proof" baler yet.

    john deere balers is the bomb, we got a 744 premium round baler on our valtra t172. runs all day long, minor problems with sensor placing but got that all sorted out and runs smooooooooth

    That looks like a good machine, as for the pick up I would go for the heave chain every time because heavy or over built will keep you in the field longer and give less headaches and shop time.

      +Tom Pick Wes already stated that Krone didn't bother to bring the demo machine after all so they kinda closed the deal them selfs = It is not a Krone at least the new machine what he buys. Maybe if they bring the demo machine and actually want to sell it to olf, then it might be again an option..

    bottom line your bailing at a professional level. like one major farmer in my area, he gets a new jd combine every year. if i was bailing at the same capacity as you, there would be a new bailer atleast every two seasons. another farmer buys a new jd small sqaure baler too for the same reasons. some day i hope to own newer if not brand new equipment to bale with. i hate fixing old stuff. great review on jd baler! hope to watch more as you post.

    we have been looking into investing in a new bailer. our old international 8400 round bailer is bout done for. we have been debaiting on going to square or not. we only bale for our cattle not selling it. only thing is with round bales we dont have to restock as often as if we did square. but if we ho square we can fit more into the bale barn.

  • @RoisinT2
    @RoisinT2 9 років тому

    lol. The second i saw it, i thought "nope, too small tires, you need to get it with bigger if you buy it.." :) All and all looks kinda good. If not crop cutter model, how they like the hay in the mushroom farm if it is long, not chopped at all?
    And have you concidered plastic "sled" under the tractor, it doesn't have to be any fancy thing when it already helps very much sliding those big windrows under it, no clumbs. Quick attachment to drawbar/front weight rack, we have used it and it really is worth.

    Just be aware that that demo baler had the 2630 touch screen display that is $7000. The smaller , non-touch screen 1800 display is $2000. Both can be Actvated and hooked to a GPS reciver to give you autosteer. Also if your 8120is not Greenstar ready You will have to budget for an ISO inplement harness.

    good thing about buying it during the slow season (winter) is that dealers are more willing to make you a deal than during the high season when they cant get the stuff on the lot fast enough
    theres less chance on the machine not ariving on time deu to back orders
    the only thing you might consider : can youre tractor work that machine (do they have enough power)

  • @lukestrawwalker
    @lukestrawwalker 7 років тому

    Now THAT is how New Holland SHOULD have designed their pickup... You didn't show the chains and bearings (understand you couldn't due to time constraints, and Deere has a penchant for hiding things behind bolt-on metal safety shields, which isn't necessarily a bad thing) but one could tell just by looking at it that it is a better, well thought out design.
    Instead of a bunch of dinky add-on stub augers, putting the flighting on the rotor makes SO much better sense. Having the pickup rolling it directly into the rotor with a shorter path (no stub augers in the way) just makes better sense too. The pivoting gauge wheels make WAY better sense too, though I thought they'd be bigger... the new JD round balers use a much larger SMOOTH-FACE treadless pickup gauge wheel, though they aren't pivoting like these. Larger diameter means they roll smoother. IMHO smaller diameter wheels are too prone to dropping into gopher holes or ruts or whatever and wanting to bend or break rather than bouncing back out like a larger wheel would. Why NH put those stupid RIBBED gauge wheel tires on there instead of a SMOOTH FACE treadless design, especially since theirs aren't pivoting... just more NH stupidity IMHO...
    I thought the stuffers worked basically the same way on the New Hollands... it feeds in until it "trips" the stuffer to shove the flake up into the chamber... Not sure what the difference is but it seems to work just as well. So long as the mechanism is designed to handle the weight and volume of material and the trip is designed well enough from high quality material built heavy enough to stand up for the long haul, I wouldn't see any reason it wouldn't work just as well as the New Holland stuffer...
    Would have been interesting to see the knotters... nice looking bales are fine, but they have to hold up under stacking, handling, and transport... Course knotters are basically 100 year old plus technology-- think anybody should be able to make a decent knotter nowdays, but then again, considering modern engineers...
    Later! OL J R :)

    You sound pretty impressed with the design and performance. Is that tractor powerful enough for that bailer running at full capacity ?
    You didn't seem overly impressed with that 7250R pulling the L340.

    For the most part I enjoy your videos.... Admire your work ethic, Business Sense and stick-to-it. I am not a full time farmer. But know from experience that if you have farm equipment there is always something broke.... You are fortunate to have a son like Tim.... (please tell him I think so) He displays a pleasant personality and willingness to work. You two seem to have a pretty good working relationship when it come to working together.... even if you "tease" him unmercyfully at times. But Most of all I appreciate THIS video BECAUSE it was not full of cuss words. I love to have my grandson see what working a farm entails but have been reluctant because you sometime become a little bit too colorful. (Remember your Mothers admonition) But my review is positive..... and I guess IF I had any advice and you cared, I would suggest you NOT let the few negative reviews bother you too much. I have watched vary many of your videos and I think some of the negative feed back is designed to ruffle you. Thanks again. I will continue to view and give a thumbs us. O by the way I have LEARNED a good deal. For that - again thank you.

    I would modify the new holland I just get a funny feeling with how hard you run those balers that Deere won't hold up. The fact that they hesitated to demonstrate for you isn't a good sign either. You gotta look at it as you love 95% of your current baler so really what would it take to make it perfect in your eyes not much so just build it. You rebuilt the 4960 from the ashes if you can do that you can make that header work it would be a great series of vids to

    Do we see an L340 and 8260R in our future. It will be interesting to see how the 8120 would handle that baler. There is just something I don't like about the smaller tractors with that much horsepower (7250R). I would prefer that much power in the 8,000R series but that is just me.

    Self-admitted John Deere snob here. Glad to see you like the baler. Remember, "Nothing Runs Like A Deere"!
    It is a shame, however, that these days, even if you were to pay straight cash for the things, you still do not "own" them. You "lease the right to use" them. That goes for anything JD makes that has a computerized component.
    I'll stick to the old pre-computerized stuff, myself.
    I like to actually own what I lay my money out for.
    ;)

      +iflyhelis probably more specifically "corp lawyers"! they have to justify their existence somehow, so come up with bullshit ideas to add to sales contracts! if in fact, JD is doing that, probably could be challenged in court! they may have copyrights to programing, but that wouldn't legally extend to the actual machinery!

    • @RealCadde
      @RealCadde 9 років тому

      +John Gaskill It's like that in all software industries.
      You pay a one time fee to be allowed to use the software indefinitely but if you want continuous updates past the first year or so you pay an annual upgrade fee.
      Maybe that's not what you meant but you never really OWN software as if you could own it then you would be able to make copies of it and sell it legally which isn't a profitable model for the developers.

    • @johngaskill6316
      @johngaskill6316 9 років тому

      Cadde JD has applied that "logic" to the entire machine the software runs on, not just the software.

    You know, that JD looked much cleaner then the NH does on the inside. If it had been the NH when you opened the door, it would have been so full of hay that you would have had to knock some out of the way to see anything. Yes, i know that the JD is new and the NH is older, but even after you use the leaf blower on the NH and get it all cleaned out the JD is still cleaner. I think that it will keep things in better working order and it will last longer this way.. I dont know, maybe its just me..

      +Fredrick Mechanical we run 2 krone balers. and it has a system that spreads the stuffing load over 5 stuffers in rotary pre chamber design. building very heavy and cam rollers are lubed by the auto greaser. we have never had a problem with the pre chamber . no pickup issues. everything is protected by ratchingting cluthes.. not one bad thing to say about the balers. we will never change very reliable and very durable. we hope to upgrade our 3x3 baler this fall.

    How come you don't use a acid applicator on your balers anymore? I remember you had a older New Holland baler with one installed a few years ago.

    • @thomasrichardson2402
      @thomasrichardson2402 9 років тому

      +David Harris I know its actually called a preservative applicator, I just remember that Wes used to use one on his older baler so I was just wondering why he doesn't any more.

    Your gas door was open when you got in your truck. You need to go with the deere. As many hours as you put on your equipment (not saying your hard on your shit) it's going to break eventually, and the parts to fix it will be right down the road.

    Will you have enough tractor to run that bailer? I was hoping you'd get to run that bailer with your big tractor.

    Instead of forking out mega bucks for a new bailer, why don't you spend winter modifying the pick-up on the new holland to make it Wes proof?

    • @imchris5000

      +toymotorlux why fuck around with a weak bailer when you can get a new one that actually works
      downtime is lost money

    • @toymotorlux
      @toymotorlux 9 років тому +1

      imchris5000 Wes has said time and again that there is nothing wrong with the bailer its the pick up thats failing all the time. I think Wes said the unit is rated for 200,000 bales and he has only done 17,000. If he fixes the pick up he should get value for money as trading the unit would result in a substantial loss.

      toymotorlux him doing any modifications ruins the resale value
      no one wants a machine someone else did a bunch of changes on

    • @toymotorlux
      @toymotorlux 9 років тому

      Wes may only be a farmer but his mechanical and engineering skills are fantastic. Very soon he will have no grass to bale and it's during this time Wes does all his major repairs and improvements anyway.
      Scraping the New Holland would be like scraping a Lamborghini because the bonnet was rusty. I believe it would be bad economics to buy a new machine when the old one is 95% perfect and will last for years once repaired to an acceptable standard. You are talking about throwing away hundreds of thousands of dollars in machinery because one part is poorly designed.

      +imchris5000 The New Holland pick-up is a POS. It could be gold plaited but it would still be a POS. Any modifications made to improve the pick-up will only increase the value of the unit.
