    Artex doesn't shrink, plaster does slightly!the artexers back in the day when I started out 30 years ago would get the labourers doing the skrimming!if the artex isn't skrimmed properly your hard work will crack on those joints, I learned the hard way!to guarantee your hard work, over board and re cove and if the customer doesn't want to pay then tell them to get someone else rather than jeopardise your good name 😊😊😊

    If your unsure about SBR on these Jobs try beeline sealer (cheap) it's PVA emulsion so don't have any stickyness. When dry in about 30mins with fans apply plastering PVA and skim.
    Gardz is a similar product that just costs a bit more than beeline. They are competing brands. Never fails
    Re SBR in PVA. They are said not to mix together as different products but people do ok.
    Whatever works I guess, but I like the beeline for what it does at the cost
    Great work though 😊

    Good video fella, just a quick question, well two what tape is that on the coving and also when you so the bonding to multi mix what ratio you going off roughly? And also when you lay the first coat does it still hang Around cause if it goes too quick when you put you're second coat on surely you're have background lines where it's dried comming through?

      It's hippo tape from selcos. We put around 20 / 30 % bonding coat in the mix & as for background lines no never, thats where suction control comes into play just treat same as any 2 coat job 👍

    Good info pol... got a halls stairs landing next week... all over that blown artex ( spayed on stuff). Done a fair few before Tbf. On your vid just, do you class that first coat , the one with bonding in, as your first coat ? In other words , do you lay in as normal or are you gonna start again with two coats of normal multi? On that job where I’m there a few days I use some grit. Give it a go pal, Brilliant stuff, Alpha Chem , £22 inc delivery. That’s for 10 L. Been using it for about 3 years now. Nice one👊🏻

    Good morning sir ! I'm new to this , what is SBR , ,,, & why not take the artex off completely ?

    • @troweltalk2719
      @troweltalk2719  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Drew,
      SBR is a highly concentrated bonding agent / primer used for plastering & rendering.
      As far as taking the artex off, most artex is a pig to remove.. although it can be possible to get it off, this would take much time & effort with the risk of discovering a shot/ cracked ceiling beneath that would need skimming either way if you are wanting a flawless smooth finish

    • @ryanwalker7289
      @ryanwalker7289 3 роки тому +1

      Can be aspestos in the artex potentially so a good rule of thumb is to not disturb the background or get it tested and removed if contains aspestos.
      Easier to cover it up than to remove.

I’m not a plasterer by trade, more a decorator who can plaster to a decent standard so was wondering if i can do anything to speed up the process. • @troweltalk2719
      @troweltalk2719  3 роки тому

      The ceiling in the video is negative result for asbestos always ask to see test result before plastering artex. If positive, then do not scrape!
      If the artex contains asbestos then it should be removed by asbestos removal company.
      If you skim over an asbestos positive ceiling then you should make the buyer aware of the situation.
