  • After being defeated by Agrippa, general of Octavian, Antony retreats to Egypt (BC 31)
I am fond of history and particularly in the history of Rome and I share videos about it. Rome (2005) was one the best tv show and also some kind of documentary. I claim no rights of the videos I share

One of the best scenes. An ego enveloped lion of a man who's fought for glory his whole life finally and towards the end becoming philosophical

@@cfinley81 ye he did, but gladly indulged himself all the while. As an actor I think he is brilliant.
The scene where he is ruling in Rome and promotes a turn about Pompeian to boot as pro-consol for the year is one of his best scenes, that and threatening Cicero in the senate House.
But I feel like in all of his other productions he reproduces the style and atmospheres that he did in the Rome series. For example his demeanor in altered carbon playing Lauren's Bancroft, which I viewed before coming across Rome

@@Alistplay YES...that scene with the turnabout is one of my very favorites. But my ABSOLUTE favorite is the one where Pullo goes to Antony for help with Veranus and Antony goes to him and pretty much military-disciplines his ass outta bed. "Look at the fucking sight of you...STAND AT ATTENTION WHEN I AM TALKING TO YOU!!"

There is some amazing dramatic irony here.
Mark realizes that winning isn't everything in this moment. However, in this battle winning DID matter. A LOT. With this loss, his doom was certain. He could have lost any other fight previously in his life and kept his head on his shoulders. But not this time.
"Life is enough, nay?" It was Antony...it was.

Ya many historians look at this battle as an epoch where the Republic died and the Empire was born

Poetic, but I doubt he would’ve kept his head if he lost at Pharsalus or Philippi either. Caesar’s mercy was extraordinary for a reason.

Historically (according to Plutarch) Antony literally "jumped ship" (from the position he was commanding in the right flank) and SWAM to another more speedy vessel as he observed Cleopatra sailing away with her escorts. He caught up to her and jumped aboard her vessel, where he sat for three days at the very front of it with his hands in his head, not speaking to her once. Historians are divided on what actually happened, whether Cleopatra and Antony planned this "break out" so they could escape, or in the chaos Cleopatra tried to save herself, having Antony catch up to her unexpectedly. Whatever really happened, this scene is still one of my favorites. That's saying a lot with the amount of gold we got out of Rome.

It was the latter. It probably wasn't planned by Antony, if it was it would be an incredibly stupid plan even for him.

Uh no, Antony’s 50000 man strong army defected to Octavian’s side after the battle, he lost all his ship and was humiliated, then his 20000 men in Libya abandoned him too and he was totally defenseless and defeated

@@atwilliux456 Antony's army defected because of the propaganda. He got away from the battle with his consideable war chest he got from taxing the region during the standoff before the battle, most of the important ships and had broken the encirclement.
