The crazy part about this group is they changed members as often as a person changes their draws. And back then no one really noticed. I do not remember anyone mentioning the different members. But when Dave Hollister went solo that is when I started noticing the different members.
I think a main reason for that is that Teddy was a member and the main producer… he kept the sound, vocal arrangement and the vision consistent across different members and albums. Most r&b groups don’t produce their own albums like that. Teddy is so involved with vocals, music and writing that the revolving members don’t affect Blackstreet like other groups changing members.
Man Dave Hollister just elevated that group to another level and with Teddy on the boards you can never go wrong... I missed Dave when he left... On that another level album my ish is, "I can't get you out of my mind."... And "before I let you go" is still in rotation.... Man I miss r&b... Teddy showed he can just make music with anyone.. Guy was so special and backstreet was special too... It's just hard to keep a group of grown folks together period... Put that with money issues and it rarely last...and constant line up changes just makes the magic disappear.. People connect with the original members and the constant changes definitely didn't help. Great music tho... Timeless.

Early 90s and all of 90s was actually where hip hop was it!! Originality, performing, songs etc... 90s belonged to Hip Hop and Grunge Snoop, pac, biggie, hammer, ice, Naughty By Nature, Coolio, Public Enemy, Bone Thugz, Dre and so many others made the 90s so memorable..
Don't forget the techno sprinkled throughout the decade. Heavy in the early 90s and a few here and there through the rest of the decade. Was a great time to be young and have great music to cruise around smokin a splif too. No dam smart phones, no pronouns, and no woke crap.
Most of the Blackstreet catalogue is owned by TR and he has a tour, TR and friends in which he performs many of his hits. Blackstreet without TR is laughable.
Teddy's vocals was the weakest of all group members! He may of been the genius behind the scenes, but the other guys made the songs iconic and is what the fans remember most! I'll give him Booty Call, but that's it

I didn't notice him at first in that group either. When he went solo I thought he was a new singer until I read an interview he did in Vibe I think. That's when I remembered him in Blackstreet but if he had not mentioned it I would've never thought about it.

There is no BlackStreet w/o Teddy Riley. Chauncey is touring with some other guys as BlackStreet as well as Teddy but I will not go to a BlackStreet show if Teddy is not part of it. He might not have the great vocal skills but as long as he makes the music I am totally okay with it because he created the sound we all love.
