How old are you, Joe? Acoustic folk singers were given the respect of a quiet audience. You were also not watching very carefully. There was singing along and they were smiling.
@@joesmithmtp I'm 70 and I saw Pete 3-4 times in the late Sixties and early Seventies.I saw him get audiences stirred up and have them quietly captivated in the same show.. He was always loved and always will be. I saw him twice with Arlo.
the origins of the song are disputed! Tom Clancy (from the Clancy brothers, not the fascist), said in Seeger's "rainbow quest" that it's an old australian song, and the version they sing is the "irish" version most people are familiar with
A wonderful musician, great folk singer who does a lot to inspire the consciousness of those who hear his music. Unfortunately his legacy is tainted by the fact that he was an avowed communist. With that said he is still a pleasure to listen to.
Delicate topic. You have to avoid terms that can sound judgmental like "avowed". Yes, he joined the Communist Party which was not that unusual for the artists and intellectuals during the social stresses of the Depression. Yes, this definitely hurt his career. I think we should accept his political beliefs as part of the history of protest songs and part of the American heritage from that time. And yes, the Communist Party USA was serious stuff.

Pete is in his own league,a world treasure!
You can tell that he has a very kind heart and soul. Such a guy.
You can really see the enthusiasm on those deadpan faces in the crowd.
Autentica leyenda del folk americano Pete Seeger

RIP Pete Floated on Clearwater Big Respect
This is the best version of Wild Rover probably.
Classic Seegar
Never knew that he played 12 string, until now.
What a fucking legend!
Did he not say on the Rainbow quest show with the Clancy brothers in 1965 that he didn't know this song??
Awesome folk singer and entertainer..
Do these people not know how to smile?

He was in Australia in September of 1963, not May.
Wow, he really gets the audience into it here.
Salute !
Permutation of the Irish classic I was unfamiliar with.

This speaks more about you than of Pete. Say's to me that you are from America where communism is demonized.
It wouldnt be America without at least a few communists.
