If you pick up a pre owned vehicle, even if it looks well maintained, start fresh and replace the cabin filter. It is one of the most overlooked items. I recently picked up a 2018 Yukon in great shape, and even though the dealer shampooed the interior and cleaned everything there was still a funky smell present. The cabin filter I replaced was 4 years old and was disgusting. As soon as I replaced it, the funky smell was gone. It takes no time and you can find them at any auto parts store. Annual replacement is a good idea.
The arrow was for airflow direction. Arrow was suppose to face down
