I do 90% of my bass fishing at night. Generally I find the fish very close in so it pays not to use my head torch and not splash around to much. Dark lures on dark nights retrieved very slowly has always been my most productive method. Top video again mate. And nice to see the techniques in action.
Yeah mate, 99% of the bass I catch at night are only metres out. This is why a lure like a Skerrie does so well. They don’t cast great but that really doesn’t matter when fishing in darkness. Thanks a lot 👍🏼🎣
Nice little treat for a Monday evening, a new vid from Cal! Great advice about using darker lures at night, seems so counterproductive, and without your knowledge share, something I would have NEVER done. Couple of lovely shining bass for your efforts, what's not to love. Thanks for sharing Cal, looking forwards to the next one, my friend.
Cheers mate 👍🏼👍🏼 Yeah it may sound counterproductive but it's the same as using a white lure in heavy surf during the daylight. It always fascinates me how bass manage to see a white lure in the froth 👍🏼
@@FISHINGWITHCAL True, I was fascinated how they didn't see ANY of my lures in the froth last weekend! Tell the truth, though Cal, I really didn't care! It was raining, offshore wind at my back, and I was having a blast! 3 weeks ago I was 260 miles away from the beach I was fishing. Now it's a 10-minute drive. Hopefully, with your advice, I'll soon have a wee shiner on my hook. And even better, a BIG shiner on my plate. 😁
Choose your 'easier to get to' marks first and give that a go. Pick a spot where you know the ground you're fishing over well and this will prevent you from losing any lures, you'll also know what to cast at etc etc..
Yeah that's true Paul. On the right night, a white lure can be absolutely deadly but I've had a lot of bass on black lures on both full moons and also the darkest nights.
Brilliant Cal well done … I live near lands end so definitely gonna try a bit of night time lure fishing … always been a daytime for me but you’ve inspired me now … David
Thanks mate. Give it a go. It may feel very strange at first but you'll get used to it. Use your headtorch as little as possible as this will allow your eyes to adapt to the natural light easier.
Great video. I tried night fishing last night for the first time, I was getting a little frustrated on the finale retrieval, as I could not see the lure the joining knot between the braid and mono kept going into the top eye and getting stuck, do you have any tips on my retrieval to help me stop this, please?
Hi Cal. Many thanks for your informed, and informative videos. There's always much to be learned from your very thorough approach fishing as a sport. Anyway, I lure-fish a fair bit at night along my local shores, and although my catch rate is pretty poor, I just enjoy the experience of being there, and doing it. I fish Penarth beach, to Lavernock point, to Sully Island, to the Bendricks, and the terrain along this trail is bass territory, consisting of every textbook recommendation on where bass would be. Except for one thing: the water colour is like the Bristol Channel, in fact it is the Bristol Channel: Bovril! I'm wondering, in this long winded sort of way, if you think that when it come to fishing at night, when visibility would be at a minimum anyway, water clarity is an issue? Raymondo.
Hi mate. Water clarity can be an issue sometimes yes. Over here our water clarity is generally very good, even through winter. We would never get water clarity anything like the bristol channel! You're best bet will be to fish a lure that gives off a lot of vibration. A shallow diver with a rattle will be great, something like the Megabass zonk will be ideal. A soft plastic with a paddle tail will also give off a nice vibration in the water too. Slow your retrieve right down too, the more time the lure is in the water, the more time a bass has to find it. I hope that's a little bit helpful. Cheers.
@@FISHINGWITHCAL Thanks Cal. I always feel envious when I see videos where there's gin clear water, it's like watching a totally different sport. Barry dock is quite local to me and really clear, and good for bass, and other species, and it's a real treat to see fish in the water, but more so, my lures, and how they swim. Hey ho. Many thanks. Raymondo.
Yeah, a lot of the time you'll find the bigger bass during the night as they’ll be more confident to feed. I've just never been a massive fan of lure fishing in the dark. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I cant stand it 😂
I'm glad to hear that mate, if they can help one or two people then that's amazing! Most of the time I always use the 25g version of the skerries eel but the 10g SuperSlim version can also be very good. If I could only use one lure at night it would probably be a Skerrie 🎣

Never caught a bass at night....definitely next season I’ll have a go. Well done Cal. 👍🐟🐟

Brilliant videos …many thanks Cal. 👍
Cheers Tim 👍🏼🎣
It sounds daft, but a Black lure cast a better outline in both dark and bright conditions.
Keep up the vids Cal, certainly appreciated.

another informative video, thanks
Thanks mate, glad it was useful. It's difficult making a half decent lure video at night.

I find nightime bass fishing the best to find the bigger bass and they also fight more aggresive at night

I'm learning a great deal by your videos Cal, can I ask what length and weight you recommend for the Skerries Eels?
I'm glad to hear that mate, if they can help one or two people then that's amazing! Most of the time I always use the 25g version of the skerries eel but the 10g SuperSlim version can also be very good. If I could only use one lure at night it would probably be a Skerrie 🎣
Is there a mullet catch and cook coming ..?
I'd have to catch a mullet first 😂
👍👍
🤙🏼
Did you use the 10 gram or 25 gram black eel?
Just seen in the comments 25g thanks mate
Have you ever spent much time spear fishing before cal?
No mate I've never spear fished in my life. Maybe one day but not sure it's for me.
👏👏👍👍🎣🎣
