@@danjones3402 mine only went bad because where the dipstick tube comes out of is also where the vcm solenoid is, the gasket there leaks often and its right above the alternator, oil and alternators dont mix well
Hey, i just had to replace my alternator. Will need to replace it again after just a week. Can you guide me on which one you purchased which has been working good so far
wow nice! i have a 2010 honda accord exl with 202k miles and it runs beautifully 🙏🏽 only issue i had was my axels needed to be replaced as it was used by a previous owner 👌🏽
Every single one of these five has not happened to my car I have had to change the starter and I'm waiting for what's next but so far nothing love my 09 Accord!
I have a 2011 Accord up here in Canada. I had to change my alternator twice, a leaking rocker plate, wheel bearings, and front shocks. It's the heaviest and largest Accord that Honda ever made, so some of the parts are meant for lighter cars.
I had the same problem with my 2012 Accord. Had a leak somewhere and it was dripping down. Causing the alternator to fail. What I do now is Keep a close eye on any leaks When I get the oil changed. I've also replaced all the wheel bearings on my car. It now has 250,000 miles. As the temperature rises, You may want to think about having your engine steam cleaned so you can better identify any current leaks. I used to live in a very Cold climate similar to Canada here in the States. My cars would always have leaking seals more often than if you're in a warmer part of the US.

2009 Accord, 4 cylinder, 205k miles. Have had none of those problems. I had the starter changed and it’s pretty well hidden. Other changes have been battery, tires and brakes. So far so good! But thanks for pointing these out.
Hey Honda friend! I got a check engine light on. Mechanic said catalytic convertor..Ive heard i dont need to necessarily do anything about it if seems to be running well..
I have been watching 1a auto videos for years. its amazing how much quality content you provide. this channel should get public funding as a service to america
this was the most helpful video on honda i have found. i had to replace and alternator, many brakes front and back.door battery and my power steering is leaking now
2009 Honda Accord coupe with 120k miles. The thing is a bullet and the only issues I’ve had were ignition coils replacement, starter, and cleaning out fuel injectors.
I absolutely love my Honda, but have had to change the alternator 4 times. It's an easy fix if you have the right tools. My Honda just hit 200,000 miles and is still running good.
I replaced the alternator on my '08 Accord once at 150k miles. I think you should go with genuine Honda parts. Unless you have bad parts installed there is no reason why they shouldn't last at least 100k miles.
@@e46enthusiastic57 . Hondas are good cars but anytime you buy a car with that many miles be prepared to spend money on repairs. Some things are very difficult to replace like catalytic converters and depending on your expertise working on cars you might not want to do it on your own. I had the shop replace my for around $700-$800. Most of the other work I do myself.
2010 Accord 2.4l, 410,000 kms. The only unusual repair was the drivers door lock switch, twice, due to being made out of plastic and the drivers armrest twice wore out.
160K miles, not a fast or quiet car inside (I've got the LX-P) but otherwise solid vehicle. Repairs so far, locked front caliper, starter motor, radio was having hiccup and occasionally it takes few extra cranks to start. Arm rest in the center console wore out, paint still looks good, couldn't be happier with a long term outcome.
Get the v6 it’s pretty peppy compared to the inline 4 everyone that sees my car gets jealous because I have a “fast” car so they always challenge me to race them
Hi Bro I'm from Malaysia and thanks a lot for "how to" vidoes on accord gen 8. Because of these videos I manage to perform my very own maintenance on my 2012 Accord. Truly appreciate.
Can't believe you didn't mention the vtc actuator. Easily the most common widespread issue on these cars. If it hasn't been replaced with the updated part it will make noise eventually, guaranteed
@@jupiterbullish2520 Yep. Any accord 08-12 with the 4 cylinder will have this issue if the phaser hasn't been replaced already. It's not hard to repair, if you have done a valve adjustment on this engine you are capable of replacing the phaser. My advice is to have a very well calibrated torque wrench for the cam journal caps and to clearly mark the timing chain with a paint marker. The camshaft has a keyway so you can only install the phaser one way
I have the 4 cylinder and the only problem that I’ve had with it was the motor for the vent direction died so I didn’t have defrost. Other than that, drives great. (Not a bad 0-60 time either)
I have a 2008, 4cyl sedan with low mileage at 79k. Just replaced the fuel pump today. My garage was smelling like fuel. Scary. Also, the moonroof is stuck open in tilt position. Just found a couple of videos on how to manually close. Other than that, this is a very reliable car if you keep it well maintained.
why did u replace it? i have the same car and i think the fuel pump is whats causing it. what kind of symptoms were u experiencing? hesitation upon acceleration but on some days it feels responsive?
@@gerard4441 I had 3 mechanics look at it and they could not diagnose it properly. Took it to 2 Honda dealerships and explained the issue to the 2nd one and requested a master tech to look at it and he discovered the fuel pump was bad. The car is 13 years old, despite the low mileage and it was time to replace it. The smell of gas was dangerous and could have caused an explosion or fire if I did not replace it.
Have a 2010 2.4l with 230k miles and never had any of these problems. No mention of the excessive oil consumption caused by a faulty piston ring design? Honda did have a TSB and an extended warranty to repair this with redesigned parts but since it wasn't a "recall" they told no one unless you happened to bring your car to Honda for this issue and only agreed to fix the most egregious cases leaving many of these cars floating around suffering from this issue. The only problem the car has had which I consider to be unusual was the starter died at 70k miles. Replaced with a new part from Honda and has been good ever since. Interestingly, the original starter was tagged made in USA the replacement was tagged made in Japan. That and annoyingly the damn hood strut holder! I've had to replace that like 3 times already. Not only is it an annoying thing to have break, when it does break I have to find a means to secure the hood strut in place so it's not just flopping around. This is especially irritating due to the oil consumption issue which means every 1k miles (about 3 or 4 weeks) I have to pop the hood to top the engine off with oil. Also did I mention how bad oil consumption is for the incredibly expensive catalytic converter?
Got the 2,2 turbo diesel. Regular oil changes a must. Rear calipers seize up. Exhaust manifolds crack, this was a silent recall fault so if not serviced by main dealers might not be picked up on, but the main dealers might service your car and turn a blind eye hoping to run out the warranty time. Airbag factory recall, this is a free replacement passenger airbag. Not particularly fast, economical or cheap to run. But a nice comfy cruiser @80 mph 44mpg 0-60 around 9secs and around 130 bhp if I recall. I found the heater controls a bit to discrete and awkward also.
I have 2008 accord with the k24 super reliable car only problem I’ve had was with the vtec actuator other than that solid and still running with 325,000 miles
So far, sway bar end links, starter, and be rack and pinion had to be replaced. 120k miles, 2009 Accord 2.4 LXP. Everything else has been wear parts, tires, brakes, spark plugs, belt, etc. It's only been in the shop twice. Rack and pinion was under warranty. Starter was a pain so I had the shop do it.
2012 Accord 4 Cyl, had 30K when I bought it, 10 years ago, 135K now, I do all my own maintence. Only thing I have had to do was Oil changes and brakes , I change trans fluid about every 2-3 years, flush the brake fluid every 5 years, changed the plugs at 100K miles. I recently changed all the coolant hoses on it, figured 135K and 12 year old hoses probably due, they really weren't that bad at all, I was surprised. This car does not burn one drop of oil or leak any oil. This 2012 runs as good as the day I bought it, plan to keep it till it's dead. Also have a 2014 Accord 4 cyl with the "Earth dreams" engine in it. 80 K miles. It uses oil, about a Quart or so between oil changes. "improvements" aren't always better!!
We have a 2012 Honda Accord SE 4 cyl. and it’s been a very reliable car overall. The only thing I had to replace on it were both front shocks and a catalytic converter. After watching this video Ill go ahead and replace the spark plugs and ignition coils. I don’t think it’s ever been done since we got the car. We got it with 42k miles and currently it has 138k miles and we’re very happy with it.
We bought a 2010 Honda Accord V6 with low mileage and after driving roughly 3000 miles found out the number 3 cylinder was letting oil onto the spark plug which fouled it and we got flashing engine light. This was a problem with the V6 and they told us we missed the recall.Today I’m still driving it and I change that plug around 5000 miles.
You should look into disabling the vcm system which allows the engine to go into eco mode, disabling 3 cylinders during certain driving conditions to save fuel. It is this system which allows oil into the number 3 cylinder, fouling the spark plug and causing the engine misfire. There was a recall on this but it only paid to get the problem diagnosed and the spark plug replaced. The ultimate solution is to disable the vcm. There are many ways to do this, I did it with the vcm muzzler. I too have a 2010 Accord with the V6.
08 accord lxp 4cyl starter went out. Replaced with an O'Reilly starter. 7 months later car went into limp mode. Bought a genuine Honda starter from the stealership installed it did a ckp relearn with expensive snap on scanner. In five min car is back to normal.
I have this car. It’s a v6. I’ve had multiple seal leaks, alternator, Vvt sensor replaced, coils, O2 sensor issues, power steering, & the list goes on. It has over 200k miles. I have owned a 95, 98, 08, & 2018 Accords. I wouldn’t own any other brand.
Got an oil leaked... 2011. Power steering whine.... But just read how to fix that... Wheel bearings.... Learned that too... Going on 310k+ miles. I've owned all the same years as you. 😂 got the 01 twice... 🤣🤣🤣 #HondaGurlz
I have this car. Lots of recalls. Seatbelt, airbag, burn oil, etc. Lots of road noise inside the cabin. Trunk leaks. Otherwise very good car almost 200k miles on mine. Garage kept in amazing condition.
260,000 miles 2009 4cyl accord single owner here. (It was my dads and now mine) So far: - VETEC selenoid gasket was leaking - Starter Motor - Powe Stearing pump Oring started leaking - I did rebuild the alternator but it was due to the power stearing leakage dripping over it - AC fan motor - 2 Motor mounts - Sparkplug fail after 250k - Stabilization bar bushings were also replaced AC have never fail and it has the original suspension system - It is a really good car. For a car with that milage those are pretty stupid thing to brake. Most of them like motor mounts and bar bushings not a problem for a lot of people but I hate vibrations and knocking sounds. Sparkplugs and AC Fan motor are just basic maintenance like brake pads Apparently the Vtec gasket and power stearing pump oring are common issues but honestly the stearing pump oring took me 2 minutes to replace and as of this moment im taking a brake from changing the oil and now its time to tacke the vtec gasket, but it doesn’t seem too complicated.
hi, how is the car going. is it very reliable. i had an audi i sold cos the price to repair is will buy 3 honda coupe.i heard honda parts are cheap .i recently saw a cheap 2009 honda accord coupe with 200,000km and looking to get it and do some MOD, so thats why am wondering if its still a reliable car to buy. thanks
Only problem I have had was constant fouling plugs 3 & 5 , and oil consumption. I installed the svcm and no more fouling plugs and no oil consumption. 135, 000 miles and runs like a champ.
An svcm or vcmtuner is a mod that allows you to disable the vcm system in the car (eco mode) hence the i-VTEC engine. Sometimes a faulty system can lead to issues with certain pistons that it banks in order to save fuel.
@@ellapanda1425 100% would solve your oil consumption problem, I’ve had my VCM tuner on my 2012 v6 for quite some time now and ohhhhh boy it’s night and day differences. More power!! Plus you aren’t going to run your 3 back cylinders into the ground anymore. Vcm in these cars during this time were terrible!!!
Change out the power steering fluid twice a year, use a shop vac and suck out the fluid. I use a bottle with a small hose , it not much. Also try a turkey baster
Great video!! I believe I heard somewhere that you reguraly needs to adjust the sparkplug timing or whatever its called, basically so that the engine runs well. Is that true?
Oh, if you had the 4 cylinder, you could have mentioned the under sized stock o-rings in the powered steering pump. Honda changed the part number for both sides of the pump in 2014. You need thicker o-rings for a seal to get rid of the whine. Just about ever 4 cylinder gets a power steering whine eventually, but it is a 15 minute $10 fix.
I have a 2012 Honda Accord LX 2.4 L. It has 280k miles on it with regular maintenance. Only major replacement is the power steering pump, which was making a loud noise.
This is accurate info. I have a 2008 V6 and I've had the alternator, ignition coils (which probably led to) and all 3 catalytic converters got clogged afterwards. No power as a result (replacement was a major pain in the @$$). Oh...and a blend door actuator motor that's just gone bad at 145k.
I’m having the same issues with my 08 inspire V6. cat converter, alternator, ign coil plus an oil leak (which was right over the alternator which led to it burning up) pain in the arse is an understatement actually 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have this car almost 2008 Honda Accord grey fucking indestructible 190,000 miles, I went three months with out oil or something like that my boss finally changed it for me when he borrowed my car mechanic said he has no idea how it’s still running, I ran over a whole entire deer car was still fine, I left the car in the garage all winter 4 months with low gas and 10 percent oil life never turning it on, and without lifting it ,all I had to do was get a new battery and it runs like normal. If your thinking about buying totally recommend maybe slightly newer model with leather seats can’t go wrong
There have been multiple class action suits involving the 2008 Honda Accord. I'm surprised you don't mention them...like the bad piston rings requiring adding oil very frequently and the excessive-wear brake problem. As far as I know, there are no "cures" for either problem.
@@Xilent1 just read it online somewhere but yeah I think my car is actually beginning to have that problem because twice already I’ve taken the dipstick out of my engine only for it to have a tiny little drop at the end of it and the mechanics finding no oil leak unfortunately though the recall has expired so you would have to pay some money for the fix
205k miles on my 08. Just had to replace the starter. Also now I have to change the power steering fluid. Starting to make a lot of cranking noise. Automatic locks just went out too. Really just a bunch of annoying little things.
You mentioned the coil and misfire problems. You could have discussed what causes this in the 6 cylinder engine which is the variable cylinder management (VCM). This can be disabled to prevent the problem. Things like the vcm muzzler prevent the vcm from engaging. There is a slight loss of fuel economy but expensive repairs are avoided.
If the car already has the problems associated with vcm then its probably too late to get svcm and youll probably have to replace the piston rings and now that its out of the “warranty” for the tsb youll pay out of pocket
We have the 2009 accord ex with the V6..we have owned it since new..the dealer had to remove the head and rering and hone the 3 cylinders for that side, i believe cyl#1-#3 when it had around 60k miles...covered by warranty. We now i think 215k miles and the issue has returned. I apoke with the service tech today when he called to inform me the problem..said we were past the warranty where it needs reringed..i told hi. That they already did it when it had 60k miles. I love this car but i am so dissapointed that the engine needs replaced. I feel that the honda company should stand behind their product. We have always had it serviced regularly..almost always at the dealership with honda synthetic blend. I am dissapointed
Got a 2009 Accord coupe last year, just hit 150k miles and I haven’t run into any of these issues yet, luckily! previous owners took great care of her 🥹🫶🏻
Got an 08 4 cylinder with 200k miles and not had any of these problems so far lol. I have had an axle snap on me though due to a build up of rust in the center of the rod where the stock axle has a triangular weight that collects salt and water throughout the years. Only major fault and a seized up caliper.
I have a 2008 Accord LX-P. with 286,000 miles. I had no problems other than the premature brake wear until I got past 200,000 miles. Since then I have replaced the power steering pump, starter, radiator, rotors, tie rod ends, and a back driver's side wheel bearing. AC just started giving me problems. The trunk spring just broke. I have to add a quart of oil every 1000 miles. Passes smog but the engine light is on most of the time now. Code says it's the Cat is bad. California Car is pretty much done if I can't smog it. I still have original spark plugs. Got my Accord in 2007. It was manufactured in Japan so maybe that helped.

Living in MN we have harsher winters and I never warm it up past 30 seconds. She still purs to this day.
I wanted to know if there’s a difference between 08 and 10.. like did they fix any of the problems? Since i have a 08 and im buying another one so thinking that if its worth it to buy a 10 instead?
I’m surprised so many people have had issues. I keep up with everything, very minimal maintenance and have clocked 296k on the car. 355k total. Just normal maintenance

My alternator has needed to be replaced twice now and the front catalytic converter also needs replacement after there was an engine misfire. 97k miles - 2010 accord exl v6
If you get an engine misfire code on this generation for V6s, there is a TSB out for it. Your coils will likely be fine. This is due to the VCM for cylinders 1-3 that leads to high oil consumption, thus fouled plugs. Piston rings will likely need to be replaced.
Finally got a correct answer for misfires and for faulty plugs, VCM SUCKS believe it guys.there is VCM muzzler in market which helps the motor to not active ECO mode or variable cylinder management system,SO that car can run on 6 cylinder fulltime no matter what, which can safe motor Avoid misfire, No need to change plugs anymore for 100k miles for sure.
@@sajiwan1 Correct. I have a 2010 3.5 that started burning oil bad. Honda would not qualify me for the tsb because my oil consumption was just under 2 quarts burned every 3,000 miles. What a joke. Honda would charge me $ 4,000 to rebuild top of motor. I found a reputable small garage that has seen the issue and had a solution. he did a cylinder flush to remove the carbon build up on the rings and pistons on cylinders 1-3 and recommended i buy a vcm muzzler. It completely solved the issues. No more fouling plugs every 5,000 miles, no oil consumption and real V6 power all the time. 28,000 miles later, no issues!

The alternator does charge the battery, BUT, an even more important job is to supply high amperage also for all the power hungry computers, ABS and electronics of new cars!
This is a big misconception a alternator does not charge it simply maintains the battery but does not mean the battery doesn’t need to be charged regularly every few months, maintenance free batteries is a marketing scheme
You will need to replace the rear brakes like three to one ratio to front. My 2010 also has higher oil consumption, 1.5 qt per oil change. The vtc actuator start up noise. Starter as well as ac compressor replaced. Another interior problem is the sun visor don't hold it's position but drop down an inch.
2012 V6 Ex-L here with 117k miles. Bought her brand new and its my second Accord (had a new 08 as well). Only thing i did was replace the alternator one time. Everything else was normal maintenance. Had the dealership do the timing belt at 100k. Trans flush at 70k. Still drives smooth with no issues and is my daily driver. Black on black leather. Drone Alarm app to start on and off from phone as well as temp and battery monitor. Anyone reading this far is still enthused and if I get a good offer I'm willing to sell it (Michigan car). Nothing but full synthetic Mobil 1 oil and filter every 5k miles done religiously. Sparks changed at the same time i did the timing btw. Custom modified HID headlights in original headlights and spares are still available.

2010 Accord Coupe 4 cyl with 205k miles. At first it used oil and Honda repaired the motor. New piston rings if I recall. There was TSB bulletin on this. After that I've only had an oxygen sensor and drivers side window regulator.

2010 Honda lx, 210k miles engine and trans original, New power steering pump, cv axles, bearings front only, new struts all around, p0420 code comes and goes but other then that it’s a great car. Moved my house hold goods to and from Alaska
In regards to the bad cat, I had a ‘05 Elantra beater I drove for like 3 months. It had a bad cat and an exhaust leak. It never really caused me any issues, no power loss or acceleration loss... The cat is way down pipe part of the exhaust system obviously, why would it impact acceleration? And why is it a problem at all, aside from emissions? Very curious to know. Great video!
I had a cat replacement on my v6 honda accord and i had no acceleration at all so the mechanic told me its like breathing. The engine wants to breathe through the cat but if the cat is bad it wont let it breathe properly so therefore the slow acceleration
The catalytic converter can cause power loss or stalling if it is clogged, because the exhaust gasses can build up pressure, making the engine work harder. If you had an exhaust leak also, as you say, the pressure likely did not build up enough to affect your engine. It left the system through the leak instead! Thanks for the question! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-Now

Wait so what happens when that been that specific converter that you're saying fills up with fuel and gets clogged does it start spitting smoke out from the back right spark plug area or underneath that area cause that Is where it looks like it is located. But my car lost power on the freeway. Pulled over and then when I started it again it's making a popping noise and dumping oil. I just replaced the spark plugs the night before but one was rested in place right in the area I think it may have clogged 1 of the catalytic converters. But are these symptoms of that ? My check engine light never came on
What can cause a week packed honda accord 2008 engine not to roll. The Dashboard light shows but can't start. Oil services was done recently before packing.
What happens if the p0420 is never fixed? I thought converters were only necessary to change if one’s state does emission tests. Will a bad converter ruin my car in the long run? Thank you .
Only if it gets clogged. Sometimes you can put premium gas and run it hard on the highway to get the cat to burn up any carbon buildup on them. Usually works for me when I get that code from time to time.
Yes, indeed. Same problem in all 4 cylinder 2.4s (Accord and CRV) from 2008 till 2016. Mine and my brother in law's have the same issue, it has to do with the VTEC actuator. Terrible grinding sound.

If you get an engine misfire code on this generation for V6s, there is a TSB out for it. Your coils will likely be fine. This is due to the VCM for cylinders 1-3 that leads to high oil consumption, thus fouled plugs. Piston rings will likely need to be replaced.

I'm surprised the common problems being VTC actuator for the 4 cylinder and the V6 VCM Piston Rings aren't mentioned.
Me too. I had that problem
Are there any other symptoms for a bad crankshaft position sensor?
You will need to replace the rear brakes like three to one ratio to front.
My 2010 also has higher oil consumption, 1.5 qt per oil change. The vtc actuator start up noise. Starter as well as ac compressor replaced. Another interior problem is the sun visor don't hold it's position but drop down an inch.
Thank you for the extra input! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-Now
Change those rear calipers dude
Put the svcm on it @ $90 and takes about 15min and oil consumption and plug fouling is gone. Done it on 2 cars.
@@adamUDavies there are VCM in i4?
@@lsman38 not sure about the 4cyl ?
Both of mine are the 3.5
I have a 2011 Accord and the only thing I've replaced are 2 bent rims,4 tires, oil filter, oil and gas.
I have the 08 and been having trouble with the camshaft sensor. I've replaced and Honda replaced only acts up when it rains.
Hi I’m interested in your car, do you have pictures?
3 out of 5 after 240k miles ain't so bad 😂 replaced both engine bay cats around 150k, the alternator around 150k, and now I'm replacing the blower motor AND alternator AGAIN at 240k.
This information was very helpful , since I was thinking of purchasing one Thanks .
What about now?
2010 Accord Coupe 4 cyl with 205k miles. At first it used oil and Honda repaired the motor. New piston rings if I recall. There was TSB bulletin on this. After that I've only had an oxygen sensor and drivers side window regulator.
My 8th gen has had starting issues, I’ve replaced the starter but always ends up with the check engine light blinking. Not just that but it won’t accelerate past 30mph
Coils acting up, disconnect battery wait min., reconnect to reset computer. Remove the coil cover, the coils cook being covered
2010 Honda lx, 210k miles engine and trans original,
New power steering pump, cv axles, bearings front only, new struts all around, p0420 code comes and goes but other then that it’s a great car. Moved my house hold goods to and from Alaska
What about the box in the trunk that controls navigation and car info. mine hasnt worked for years
I thought you'd guys would list the Transmission
It’s ass or what
Exactly
Definitely something I thought was going to see as well
As a mechanic this is the last bulletproof honda accord generation
Gonna look at a 2011 accord coupe soon. Looks promising!
Don't bother unless it's V6 MT coupe.

No mention of the hot start problem? The main relay for the fuel pump sometimes has the soldered joints get flaky.
Thanks for this content
Really good vid I did almost everything on that list
I have 2010 Honda Accord and I’ve been working on it for quite awhile, it has 131k miles with custom rims and new exhaust, dropped it a little and put on blue LED lights
Love my car
did you change the timing chain?
I bought my 2009 Accord new, other than break pads no repair work. Only 58k miles, at this rate I may become last person in CA still driving a gas car. They'll have to pry my Honda from my cold dead hands 😁
My check engine light never came on
I got the alternator replaced last year, and I had a new battery installed. I mean these things go out.
Thought you would mention the grinding sound of the engine on cold starts
Yes, that is the defective timing belt tensioner which is on all of these.
Yes, indeed. Same problem in all 4 cylinder 2.4s (Accord and CRV) from 2008 till 2016. Mine and my brother in law's have the same issue, it has to do with the VTEC actuator. Terrible grinding sound.
Vtc actuator
@@ivanricardomecklenburg6417 spot on! timing chain guides for defective....Honda is like a Yugo
Thats the timing belt tensioner . Just replaced mine . Noise at start up is gone now
The alternator error is massive. My 2012 alternator was dead too.
