2009 Honda Accord with MAP error code P1129, rough idle and limp mode (won't go past 3,000 rpm). The solution in my case was engine valves adjustment (intake and exhaust valves). Things I have done to the car that failed to solve the above issue, replaced engine oil, new timing chain, replaced VTEC Solenoid module, replaced Variable Valve Timing solenoid, replaced PCV, cleaned throttle body, checked for vacuum leaks.
SOLID repair. you're absolutely correct about taking the car to a auto parts store.... I remember telling someone that my scanner doesnt tell me whats wrong, it just gives me information to be able to diagnose a car. he said hes going to take it to a place that have an expensive scanner that tells you exactly what part is bad.... facepalm. cant help them all.
This engine boast very minute overlap at idle (for smoothness). It is quite normal to see an intake open about 25-30drg ATDC. During full-phase, the intake will shift positive about 30 crankshaft-degrees 👍. So, you are correct, the IVO is occurring later then conventionally however, it’s desirable for this engine . Great work, Mario!
Great information! Thanks Brandon! Looking forward to seeing you again at Super Saturday! Thanks for swinging by buddy. I got too used to seeing Ivo right before the end of the exhaust stroke 😆
Too be honest. You did a really really good job. Also removing the oil to get the rest of the broken guides. I thought most people would have slap a timing kit and not think about where the other parts of the guide went. But you did surpise me and found some of it in the pickup. Extremely good job.
Mario, awesome work and analysis of those in-cylinder pressure waveforms. Simply top-notch! And "last thing we want is a comeback" haha 100% agreed! Taking off the oil pan and cleaning up that clogged pick up strainer was the extra mile for sure... Not many shops would have gone that far! Good to see you at Super Saturday :)
Thanks for sharing that one Mario. I found it very interesting. It might be a while since you last posted but the quality of your videos is worth waiting for. I hope the lady who owns that car knows how lucky she is that her car got to you. I can’t help feeling like a pile of her money could have been wasted if she’d gone elsewhere. Congratulations on the new job, I wish you the best of luck there.
I found a rag in the air box once. It was under the filter. As they left it in there cleaning the box out. Problem solved. It had been to 2 shops before I found it..
I’m dealing with one right now doing the same thing. I took out the O2 sensor and drove it same thing checked fuel pressure 50lbs and flow was good. Added oil to it (2 qts low) and it fixed it for a week and now it’s back. It did have a misfire code on 2-3 cylinder but after adding oil that went away and it ran prefect so now let me check further
Seen a lot of that at my dealer, but never that MAP code. I’ll have to keep that in mind next time I see a 2.4 with these symptoms. Cool diagnostic approach!
Good to have ya back bro! Man I got excited when I saw a Cody’s auto diagnostics shirt and talking about a new shop.. I immediately thought .. dream team? Lol nice video man
Hey Mario! Just to be safe, double check the mark you're using on the crank pulley. I know it sounds weird but there are 2 sets of marks on the damper. Good find buddy and good luck on the new place! Glad to see you back! -100

great Diag love it . you did ask if any any one can think of any thing more that can lack power ,i have one that you did not mention ? contaminated fuel only just last we had a car it was a Honda with low it had a very small of diesel fuel in it
Hey Mario!! Great to see you back. I hope you'll enjoy the new job, and I hope there were no burned bridges at the last one! Great video, showing a very difficult diagnosis! You had an idea to start with, but with a simple diagnostic test, you suddenly changed your mind, instead of trying to stay focused on your original thought! That shows talent, education, and caring!! And to also find some debris in the oil pan, to help save the client any further possible issues, was right on point! That's more than education, that's common sense at its finest!! Nice video, and thanks for sharing!!
Great video Mario! I think this one made me understand the (squiggly lines) just a lil bit more! I really appreciate you for sharing this one especially because it’s a Honda and I’ve been around these cars forever and never had a definitive way of arriving at timing diagnostics. My wps is on the way! ✊🏾
Mario, good luck in your new place of employment. Just watched a similar video put out by Trained by Techs with an 06 Odyssey 3.5 with a similar problem and how they also explained the wave form and came up with the same timing diagnostics. They also initially thought it could be a valve problem but you both came to the same conclusion. Thanks for showing the screenshots on Honda vehicles. I try and capture them as I own two Honda’s.Your daughter is beautiful. Thanks for everything I’m trying to learn all I can. 👍👍👍
Where did you learn to use a picoscope and transducer, and to be able to interpret the data? I’ve been working at a shop for a while but I’m embarrassed to say that I don’t know how to diagnose like this. I want to learn to diagnose like you. I would appreciate any advice!

Great to see another of your videos Mario. Love the process. This video really shows the advantage of using a scope and in-cylinder pressure testing as well as the importance of pre and post-repair data collection.
Good diagnosis strategy, never used transducers before so it’s good to see someone showing what information can be retrieved from one. You earned yourself a sub. 👍🏻
I got the same car and I got the code p0341...but on my scanner it also showed me pending codes p1129, p0339???...you think if I knock out that p0341 code the other 1's will go away.

10/23/22 currently having this same issues. Mechanics changed spark plugs and crankshaft sensors Gorgeous worst. $800 dollars later bring back to shop. Awesome Video ! Help! Help!
On the opposite end of where you did the test on that cylinder, above the cylinder is a small what looks to be a PCV valve by the brake booster area but the factory OEM one is by or connected to the block on that motor (K24Z3) what is that inline valve called? Almost all auto parts stores show nothing about that valve. Just wondering. Thank you!
I appreciate that, I'll stop in the Honda dealer and check and get a print out, motor is just about to roll over 100k miles so I will be checking everything and replacing those "cheap" pieces. I'm at 82,000 miles so just making a list etc. Appreciate your videos and hell that was a FAST reply! Thank you!

Believe it or not, this is a lot like how cardiologists currently diagnose atrial and ventricular valve and cardiac sinus issues (using EEG software data analytics) with their cardiac patients. The heart's cardiac sinus is a lot like camshaft phasing (along with signals from ECM/ cam and throttle position sensor data).

In my field of digital electronics component manufactures publish ALL their wave forms so we know what to expect and anything that deviates from that is a faulty part. Thanks.
my accord 08 v4 gives less fuel , around 350km in full-tank till it reaches the yellow light what can be the reasons for the fuel drain. total 160k km is driven as shown in the speedometer, and the engine oil was leaking or evaporating or going out thru the exhaust i dont know exactly, one guy told me to change the engine itself he said piston rings are letting the vapor out he told to change engine instead of the piston rings due to the labor charge involved, but when topped up some cheap oil now the engine oil doesnt leak. but fuel consumption has gone up. full tank i used to get 450km now i get 350km , PLS ADVICE
Really interesting, never seen this type of diag before. Wondering if a vac gauge would show a similar problem for those of us who dont have all the up to date technology.
It would likely show a weaker vacuum at idle and heavy pressure pulses while cranking. But still would not pinpoint which is the offending cylinder. Thanks for watching!
