    Back in the mid 70s they had a pro motocross race on the track at the bottom of the hill. Evil Knievel was there to prerun the track as a publicity stunt. Well he ran off the course and never finished the course. He also tried to run me over in the pits.
    They had parachuters come in at the beginning with flairs on their lower legs. For those that know the area you realize what a bad idea that was. They started a fire that burned a section of the mountain and over a dozen vehicles. Getting fire equipment in was a problem because of the road and people still trying to get in. Crazy day. Hadn't thought about that in many, many years. Thanks for the video. That area has really changed.

      I'm over near Westcliffe and there's two huge hills that I've been riding there since the early '80's. But they're on private property so have to get permission. 1000' tall hill, no trees, it's perfect. In all the years I've never made it to the top on my normal dirt bikes, there's really no way but it's still incredibly fun! Only allowed to ride on it one day per year to avoid leaving ruts, and I agree with that.

      You must have been looking a long time, not much for hills east of the springs.

    • @denverdanoreno
      @denverdanoreno Рік тому

      @@rockybutler yes correct, no 1500 to 2500 vertical ft Mountains east of Constitution Avenue, but the planes do have their beautiful Rolling Hills of which some of them can reach easily 700 vertical feet with a 12 to 15% incline. I haven't been to the springs in a few years, the only thing I'm missing is it's growing in Leaps and Bounds. They can have it. I now live on the east coast in a very nice cabin on a Mountaintop in Southwest Virginia. Love it here, the people are more grounded in civility than in most places these days. This comes from a native of Colorado without having the bumper sticker on the back bumper of my truck telling you so. Life is good!

    • @jlo7770
      @jlo7770 Рік тому +1

      @@speedfreak8200 the videos don't do any justice for how steep some of this stuff is. There's stuff you can't even walk up and if you don't lay your bike over right (assuming no paddle tires can't just dig in) it and you are falling down that hill.
      I've been with people that got bogged down and it took 6 people to get the bike to the top because going down wasn't an option. I've rode a bunch of moto cross tracks, trails ect. Hill climbing is just different. If it's anywhere near where you live it's well worth going to watch an event and you'll get a better understanding of just how steep this stuff is

The guy I bought it from bored it put a domed piston in it and added a bigger carb. He sold it because it was too hard t start. That bike was uncanny fast and the torque was crazy, it went up anything I ever tried. We heard stories that a guy in 80 or 81 that a guy climbed Widomaker on a stock YZ 465. I still haven't been able to verify to this day.
