It's a shame that most all of the bikes got stopped at one steep step. They needed to cut a little off that with some Shovels. The Event would be more exacting of my bikes could make it farther and they could use the timers to determine the winners.
I love these vintage race films, but why do announcers say stuff they have no clue about? "World's only landlocked salt water lake?" How about the Salton Sea, Dead Sea, Caspian Sea, Aral Sea, ... need I go on?
I moved to SLC this year and the first thing I did was go to this with my cousin. Can’t believe how time flies. And the valley sure don’t look like that anymore.
Back when Dad's had the solution to all problems always around their waste! Kids respected their elders. You learned early that when you F'd up, you were going to respect the belt!
If the goal is to get to the, top of the hill… get a fat cat motorcycle.. low gears, will creep right up that hill, with age comes wud wisdom….. look up the fat cat motorcycle.. two wheels, crawl right to the top, guarantee it…..
I miss the 80s. Home made contraptions, works MX bikes, group B getting too narley.... thank you for posting this so i could share with my little one!.
This is great! I grew up in Provo and it was so awesome to see land in between the cities. Now the entire valley is full of homes. Thanks for the awesome memories. 👍
I worked at the Gold Miners Daughter Hotel at Alta Winter of '83.. The Owners Grandson lived at the Bottom of the Hill. It was hayfields back then. Now it's a Subdivision ..
I remember watching this on TV. I was a Sophomore in high school and emulated these guys. I got to go to my first rally that year, although I couldn’t ride quite yet, and things then were a lot different, BETTER! There were no politics involved, period! If you drank and ride you got a ticket. If you drank to much and ride you went to jail, if you didn’t finish yourself in a stupid wreck. KUDO’S to all the men, this was close to the end of an era where men were men and women knew they were women.
Back in the mid 70s they had a pro motocross race on the track at the bottom of the hill. Evil Knievel was there to prerun the track as a publicity stunt. Well he ran off the course and never finished the course. He also tried to run me over in the pits. They had parachuters come in at the beginning with flairs on their lower legs. For those that know the area you realize what a bad idea that was. They started a fire that burned a section of the mountain and over a dozen vehicles. Getting fire equipment in was a problem because of the road and people still trying to get in. Crazy day. Hadn't thought about that in many, many years. Thanks for the video. That area has really changed.

So much talent, energy, time, courage, and money invested in not solving real problems.
When you think that this was more than 40yrs ago… Wow

Ahhh the days before the corrupt government sold a city street to a corrupt religion. 🙃

He's been the Polk county Sheriff for a very long time for a very good reason ! All Sheriff's should be like Sheriff Judd.
Back when men were men and sheep were nervous
Back when men were truly animals
Please bring this back. Where is it? Is it still going on but they don’t show us anymore? Man this was great. Even the women trying. Great clean fun.

1500, whats it take to go the distance...WINGS ?.... great event, Thanks for sharing.
This was used on the same film used for making ADULT films on in the 80’s. I could of sworn I saw Ron Jeremy & Harry Reems in this hill climb.
Ha Ha..Great observation!
It's all gone now, all that green is developed and the hill, known as widow maker at the point of the mountain is all excavated away.
That music around the seventten minute mark is awesome.
1:32 that's the guy who made it to the top.
I love when they go over the shrubs and just rip it out and into the air flying
