    Very helpful review, makes me feel better about owning the older version of the fork too seeing it has at least one benefit being lighter weight and honestly the CTD system in full open works quite well for me. The misinformation from fox about the weight pre purchase would bug me too, glad you took the time to weight it and point it out probably saving a lot of people from making an upgrade they may not be satisfied with due to this fact. Happy riding!

    The 120mm fork is for the trail version of the Anthem, which includes a 180 front rotor, a 70 mm stem, 740mm bars, and a dropper post. The entire combination, in the mountains, works great.

    Hi Clint, I know you've said in the past that you've had issues with RockShox forks and won't run them any more, but it would be very cool to get your take on the Pike since it's established itself fairly well as the premier trail/enduro fork. Either way, keep up the good work, these videos are great!

    I was confused by your statement that they don't make the Talas anymore since I ordered one a couple of days ago. Then I realized mine is a 29 " wheel. My 2012 32 mm Talas fork was trash and the cost to upgrade over repair was only $95 more. I debated to go to with the float vs the 32 talas but the Fox rep wasn't sure about weights either. The talas appears to still be the older design and is no doubt a bit heavier. FYI they do offer a Kabush light weight axle now that shaves 40 grams if weight is a concern and you don't mind getting a hex key out to remove the front wheel. Great videos Clint. Keep them coming.

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  8 років тому

      Yeah, I've thought about the Kabush axle. I'll probably go that route soon.
      And as you stated, no TALAS for the 27.5 XC forks... and the 29 TALAS is heavier than the Float. I had a 29 TALAS on my Jet 9 RDO a few years ago and liked it. The one really good thing about the Float is that they are easier to work on (i.e. changed the oil).

    Hi Clint, before I help my family business out, I am pre engineering nerds, the truth is there is no perfect solution for everyone, you would have to time them, assess them through cycle computer on both of them versus how you actually physically feel inorder to get the 100% accuracy of what work best for you. Just like I am 100% sold for over two year that LOOK cleat system is the best cleat that work for me personally.

    Hey Clint Gibbs, I love your vids and recently subscribed! I am getting the 2015 Raleigh Tokul 4130. It comes with the Fox 32 Float CDT with 130mm of travel. Is this fork similar to the white shock you brought out a couple times in this video? Thanks in advance for your answer!

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  8 років тому +1

      +Miles Shealy yes, if it's a fox CTD with Kashima coating on the stanchions then it would be the same, just longer travel.

    Hi, thanks for this great review. I have bought 2016 Fox32, Open mode works perfect, but I cannot see the difference between Open, Medium and Lock positions. It still behaves as Open....Is there any option to adjust it ?? Thanks for the answer !

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  8 років тому

      +Jiri Hauptvogel it seems there's a problem with your fork. The lockout should be fully locked and allow for no suspension movement.

    I just want to ask on what is the problem of my fork, it has air and every time i get into my bike, the shocks keeps on dropping and it didn’t get into it’s original height of the suspension (not sure what it’s called, suspension or shocks) so i just twist the blue into lock setting so it will not drop when i ride it, what should i do? Thank you so much!

    Hey Clint just read on ridefox.com that the elite fork which is spec'd on the 2016 27.5 anthem sx along with being setup @ 120mm also has along with the factory fork handlebar lock out capability. This remote lock out option seems to be the main difference with the elite fork over the float performance. Thanks for all your reviews.

    Thanks for the review. I am looking to buy a 2016 trance 27.5 2. I am coming from a 2016 talon 1. Have you had any experience with the trance 2? What's your take? Thanks.

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  8 років тому

      +Keith Van Hoosen the Trance 2 it's probably one of the best values in Giants lineup. Other than not including a dropper seatpost I think the spec is spot-on. I would try to negotiate a giant dropper post with your bike shop with the purchase. The only thing on that bike that you may want to upgrade later on would be the wheels if you wanted to go with the stiffer Carbon wheels.

    • @Shinobi6913
      @Shinobi6913 8 років тому

      +Clint Gibbs Thank you for your quick reply. According to Giants website and the one I saw at my lbs it does come with the giant dropper post. This is looking like my next bike as the trails I like to ride are getting more and more technical. Thanks again and I enjoy your in depth reviews and tips. They have helped.

      +Clint Gibbs.. I picked up the trance 2 last night. Haven't had the chance to break in on the trails yet, just a quick couple laps in the parking lot
      Will set it tubeless tonight and work on understanding the new suspension as it is a bit more advanced than the TK 30 Gold I had. Thanks again for your input. So far very happy!

  • @danielnadler9282
    @danielnadler9282 5 років тому

    Clint, you are from my neck of the woods and we ride a lot of the same trails. I am riding a 2018 epic comp carbon and just pulled the trigger on a fox float factory 32 100mm. I am replacing the Reba RL that came on the bike because after about 170 miles the Reba became extremely stiff in the first few mm of travel. It now has virtually no progression and less than 7% sag at recommended psi. so small roots like you describe bounces the bike like crazy, and the front wheel wants to push through turns. Do you find that the Fox is a more progressive fork, as in does it eat up the small choppy stuff well In the first portion of travel? I know it’s a better fork materials wise but hope that it will have a nice linear progression with regards to trail manners. Thanks in advance and it’s cool that I found a local rider doing this video just from googling the fork I just bought.

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  5 років тому +1

      I think you will find the Fox fork much more small bumps complaint. It also it's very adjustable with the volume spacers. You can make it very linear or feel progressive. I think you'll really like it.

    • @danielnadler9282
      @danielnadler9282 5 років тому

      That's great to hear. I am looking forward to it. Some of the rooty downhills around here seem to call for a really plush initial travel with really quick rebound and my current rig definitely struggles with that. Sounds like the Fox will do much better making it a worthwhile $$ investment. Can't wait. Thanks Clint.

    You make great videos. I have learned a lot from them. I have a question on Bluetooth earphones. I want a pair of Bluetooth headphones that can be used for cycling as well as everyday use for my iPhone. I also do quite a bit of outdoor landscaping work in the summer. I prefer the around the neck style. What do you recommend with durability in mind. I am Trooper, so I would be wearing it for work also. Also, do you know if they can pair with the Apple Watch and play music from the watch playlist without the phone? Thanks in advance!

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  8 років тому

      +TrpDSgt I REALLY like the Jaybird X2, but they are not the neck style you described. You can let them dangle around your neck when not in use, but if you move around a lot they can fall off. I'd say the LG Tone Active would be the best for what you described. I don't have any experience with the Apple watch.

    hey Clint! Great video btw... Anyhow, I would like to ask if, is it ok if I upgrade my 100mm travel fork into 120mm? Will it affect its geometry or something? Because I'm kinda confused if its ok or not... I have a 2015 Giant XTC 27.5...

    • @ClintGibbs

  • @cup_and_cone

    A Fox rep I spoke to said the weight increase to 2016 is not the internals, it is the slightly beefer external crown/lowers. Don't know if that is the case.
    That said, Fox XC forks have always been heavy compared to competition like DT and RockShox.

    Hi Clint thanks for the video, just wandering a bit more about converting this from 100m to 120mm, does it have to be a 120mm specific fork that can be converted to 100mm? or can any 2016 100mm fox 32 fork be converted? the reasons i ask is because here in Australia we get 3 versions of the alloy Anthem, and the Anthem 1 model comes with a fox 100mm fork, with a shimano 1x11 drive train , which id prefer over the Sram and rock shock combo they sell on the Anthem SX, So in short it would be good to know if i could buy the Regular Anthem and convert it into an SX without too much expense? cheers, keep on posting these great vids!

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  8 років тому

      From what I understand you can go down in travel but you cannot go up. That is, you cannot take a 100mm fork and make it a 120, but you can do the opposite.

    • @Sefveron
      @Sefveron 8 років тому

      +Clint Gibbs Well that's a little disappointing but i guess ill just ride and enjoy it at the 100mm spec, It will be more fun to see how far i can push the bike before it feels "limited" cheers anyway.

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  8 років тому

      Well, let me know if you would be interested in buying this fork. The added weight between the 2014 and 2016 model PLUS the additional weight of the 120 (which I'm not really using right now) has me trying to sell the fork right now. If it doesn't sell it's not a big deal, but with a shot.

    • @Sefveron
      @Sefveron 8 років тому

      +Clint Gibbs Thanks for the offer, if i wasn't in Australia and somewhere a bit closer it i might have been able to do a deal with you, maybe even swap the brand new 100m shock that would come with the 120mm you purchased... actually i think the alloy 1 model that i was looking at is pretty much same spec as the 2016 anthem advanced 1? if you find someone who recently purchased one of those over where you are, you might be able to offer them a swap? the versatility of running either 120mm or 100mm should appeal to someone.

  • @skiwealdo1973

    I would keep the 2016 fork and reduce that weight on something else. You'll be able to reduce that weight and be happy i'm sure, where there's a will there's a way always to reduce that weight. Maybe go carbon on a component. I have a BMC Cross Country and have it down to 21.7 lbs with a 6" dropper seat post. I know dropper seats are technically not suppose to be on Cross Country bikes, but when your going down scary as hell hills it makes a big difference.

      +Andrew Roberts I wouldn't say I was slashing the shock. My complaint was Fox not giving accurate weights and it being heavier than I was told. I've since sold it and am now running the pure 100mm version. Performance is great on either one. Yes, you'll notice a huge difference. Enjoy!

    Nice vid, I've called Fox before for an upgrade on a 120 Float and the guy sounded pretty negative and a bit condescending. Their customer service is not the greatest and there are plenty of complaints about it. That is one area that Fox needs to improve for sure. If your racing and can handle everything on a 100, you might as well stick with it to save the grams. 120 has 20mm more material and I would think it will always weight more than a 100.

    Is it normal to have about 25mm of movement on the Fit4 when locked out? That's standing off the bike pushing down, when riding its less because of rider sag. Just wondering if this is to be expected. Hope you will see this and answer.

    Hi, are you sure that the rebound knob you where talking about is really for adjusting the rebound? Because on my model 2016 Fox Float 32 27,5 Fit4 performance this knob is the boost valve adjustment. In my case it is for adjusting how sensitive the fork is reacting on harder bumps in the locked position, in order to get better performance when pedaling uphill. Just asking.

It's just the 2016 is a little bit better in terms of performance.

    i need some help
    i picked up a fox 32 evo ctd oc 120mm fork last december
    i run about 100 psi in it
    after 30 hours of riding i noticed a clunk sound only when in trail mode and only intitially. after a few mins or usage it went away.
    2 weeks ago i had the service done to replace the fluids
    when i reinstalled it on the bike my trail mode and lockout did not work. i let all the air out and cycled it a few times and now i have trail and lockout again. however the lockout is slightly mushy and i still get the same clunk when in trail mode for only a few mins.
    what the heck is going on here? some kind of air in the system?
    i also noticed the fork has developed a slight jigle/looseness at the very beginning of travel. im taking a milimeter or 3 of just a loose feel like my headset is loose but i checked and it tight and definately the first few milimeters of travel between the stanchions and legs at the seals.
    any idea whats going on here? i keep the bike extremely clean and lubed.
    the recent service was to conver to gold fluid and gold fluid compliant wipers.
    thanks in advance.

      +mjs1231 to me it sounds like there is a problem in the damper side. Of the thousands of miles I put on Fox forks I've only had a problem with the damper once or twice. I would go to your local bike shop and explain the problem and have them contact fox, especially since it is still in warranty. Fox is pretty good about turn around so you should only be out about a week if your bike shop needs to send it back to them.

      +Ultranationalist941 I've only had limited time on them. They ride well but I understand the maintenance is not very easy since they use a lot of needle bearings. You also have to consider your limitations on aftermarket wheels. Personally, they're not for me.

  • @baravnzla
    @baravnzla 8 років тому

    My question is: would you really be able to feel the difference if you hadn't weighted the fork? It seems to me that its just making the bike lighter for the sake of being lighter and not having proof of it really making any difference... And I'm not talking about your case in particular but about much of the bike industry hype when it comes to weight.

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  8 років тому +2

      +baravnzla weight has a pretty dramatic feel on the way on bike rides. A lot more than what you would really think. My trail bike is only about five or six pounds heavier than my cross-country bike but yet it feels a lot more sluggish on typical cross-country Trails. On downhills it's a blast. Front end weight is pretty noticeable. As is rotational weight on the wheels.

    • @baravnzla
      @baravnzla 8 років тому

      Clint Gibbs yes, surely your trail bike feels sluggish on the same trails, but probably due to a combination of factors besides weight alone like geometry, tyre tread patern/size, suspension travel, etc. I know that weight added to the wheels and suspension have a more dramatic feel on bike behavior than any other part, but my point is that the upgrade on suspension performance could perfectly be worth a weight gain of less than 100grams. Have you beaten any of your PRs in strava that you get with your old fork? If yes that somehow makes my point valid.

  • @mcunhabr
    @mcunhabr 8 років тому

    I may be wrong, but the rebound is also related to the pressure. If a heavier rider, with something like 250lb and 100 psi, try to use only 4 clicks of rebound it will be a disaster. The fork will jump like having a heart attack.

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  8 років тому +1

      +Marcelo Cunha Yes, a lot of factors go into tuning a fork, more that I had time for this video. But good point.

    • @mcunhabr
      @mcunhabr 8 років тому

      +Clint Gibbs I've mention that because I don't have much experience in fork setup and that's exactly what Fox suggests. I'm trying to figure out my self what's the best setup for me... Browsing Fox's website I've found a chart recommending a specific rebound adjustment for every pressure, but this doesn't look the best for every terrain. But is a good start point. Your tip of close a little to jumps and open to a little more "live" terrains will help a lot (like in all your videos, I always learn something new!). Thanks

    Hi, is there any way you could add a video which shows how it should perform on open vs firm setting? I have a new fork and I'm not sure my lockout (firm setting) works like it should. Not too many of these forks in here so can't really find a good reference fork to compare :( I have found this video: ua-cam.com/video/RJGxmXIsH3s/v-deo.html. Does this seem right for you or too soft for a firm setting? Mine behaves more or less like seen in this video.
