And why did Peter o Toole never go to the Oscars? I was looking for information on the Internet, I could not find it anywhere, maybe someone knows why he attended the ceremony in 1981 and did not go to the rest.
Mateus Murozaki Yeah, his delivery is really bizarre in this clip. It's almost as if he were drugged, the teleprompter was on the fritz, or he had no idea what any of the words meant.
No offense to the set and art directors for their work on Tess, but Empire Strikes Back had the best production design of that year. I mean who can forget planets like Hoth, Dagobah, and Bespin and the inside of Echo Base, Darth Vader’s ship the Executor, Yoda’s hut or the carbon freezing chamber?
@@3l237 Actually, they’re not the same designs. Each environment and set is different from the ones seen in A New Hope. Echo Base, Bespin, the interior of the Executor, the carbon freezing chamber and Dagobah are completely new planets and sets than retreads of existing sets and planets from A New Hope. So that makes the film eligible enough to win for Best Production Design.
He was not using the teleprompter and was speaking on his own something unusual and jarring for audience’s who have been acclimated to watch orchestrated television.
Toole was always like that. He is a Theather Actor :-)
Oh to be escorted by Peter O'Toole in a suit and tie down a staircase :3
Tess has great art direction.

My sister felt terribly sorry for Peter O'Toole. She thought he looked sick here!
Peter O'Toole, the Great
What the hell was going on with Peter O'Toole?

If The Elephant Man was going to win anything it should've won art direction, or even better it should've tied with The Empire strikes back.
Bet he wrote that himself. God, he was at his peak here.
Heh, heh. Poor Sissy Spacek is trying not to laugh after O'Toole's intro.
This won over The Elephant Man?

Flash Gordon would’ve got the nomination

they literally won in 1977 for the same designs why would they give them another?

Lol - You might even be serious. Tess is an outstandingly beautiful film!
@@bobbydazzler8684 True but The Empire Strikes Back has some of the most iconic and recognizable sets in film history.
@@ronaldmcdonald2817 Only for Star Wars fans.
Oh u innocent people! Peter was always drunk. Very much so here.
Drinking abated by then...probably cocaine.
He definitely was on something. Who cares about one of the greats.
