    The cinematography is so beautiful. What a contrast to poor Tess’s life. A stunning, sad film.

    Recently watched this movie again after many years,,Still , the most beautiful, sad tragic movie .The part where Angel and Tess,are finally ,and settled for the night in that abandoned house at the end of the film where he is taking off her boot ,and after ,the embrace, as they fall together kissing is the most touching scene of true love that I have ever seen .The lovely music makes it even more poignant

      @@lw3646 Yes, it was different. But in a way that, I would argue, was even much better. By a long shot, in fact. Today, filmmakers seem to have no idea how to color grade their scenes properly anymore to the point that the gorgeous look from the scene in question here can't be achieved in our century anymore. The change to digital doesn't help either.

    The great Geoffrey Unsworth photographed "Tess," with additional photography by Ghislain Clocquet. I was fortunate enough to see the film on the big screen and the photography practically glows. I'm hoping the Bluray edition does it justice.

She is a German actress and former model who has appeared in more than 60 films in Europe and the United States. Her worldwide breakthrough was with Stay as You Are (1978). Other notable films in which she acted include the erotic horror film Cat People (1982), the Wim Wenders dramas Paris, Texas (1984) and Faraway, So Close! I love Polanski and the way this movie was made. But the original book on which it was based... I guess people kinda mix up real villains and heroes.

  • @Muirmaiden
    @Muirmaiden 9 років тому +20

    Beautiful countryside, but it's definitely not Dorset. Filmed in France, since Polanski would have been extradited to the US had he dared to set foot in Britain. This is a very good film but I don't think it's necessarily the best version. Nastassja's Tess is too passive, and Polanski omitted some key plot elements. Still, not a bad way to spend a rainy afternoon. Gorgeous cinematography.

      Muirmaiden it's not best version..but it's the best cinematic adaption...remeber movies and books have different elements.

    • @Muirmaiden
      @Muirmaiden 6 років тому +2

      Elfoscuro, yes I know, but the two other versions included these crucial elements, including the fact that Tess and Alec meet up again by fate - he has become a preacher, and is giving a sermon she comes across him by chance. Polanski left that out, criticizing it as "too Victorian" , giving a ridiculous reason of Alec reappearing in Tess's life when her mother wrote to him - after her abandonment by Angel, when she could have written to him when Tess was pregnant.
