@@Neomustangs Oh thanks a lot man for checking it out. I'm still learning a lot of stuff but love these FoxBodys. My channel is a bit more corny/vlog style at times but I'm having fun.
Even in a carb 302 setup if your going for performance, using a phonlic spacer, performer RPM type intake and a diecent sized air cleaner you will still need a small cowl hood. Most people out there slap on Victor Jr intakes which make the fitment issue worse. Main reason cowl hoods were popular back in the day were that EFI to carb swaps were very popular and for a performance/race oriented carb induction, the stock hood wouldn't due. That being the case for a 302, a taller 351 with a diecent street/strip carb build fitting under the stock hood is very unlikely.
Great Video Man! Like to add Head bolts (351 1/2inch and 302 7/16s) are different. Plus lot of ford 302 heads will need to be drilled out to accept the bigger head bolts.

I’m in the middle of a 427 build. One thing to know is going to a 408W using stock 351W block not an issue but a 427 means an even longer stroke so if you want a 427 generally better to go to Dart or Boss block. If you have existing turbo or supercharger From your 302 based motor you’ll need different brackets to mount to the 351W blocks it’s not direct swap. Depending on your rotating assembly the 351W could be either 28oz -or- 0 oz balancer Oil pick up and oil pump (and shaft) are different than 302 as well so Budget for new oiling system. Most Budget way to do swap is get a running motor and throw a turbo or SC on it. Otherwise plan on spending some coin
Older foxes like my 83 had a much larger diameter brake booster which will interfere with engine clearence. Have to use the smaller newer ones, and if it's like my 83 was, you'll have to clearence the strut tower for the newer one as it's longer overall and doesn't have that spot clearenced for it like the newer foxes.
@@sbf_fox2434 idk what year they changed it, or if you had the same booster mine originally had, but my car had a huge pancake booster. It was much flatter than the newer boosters but much larger in diameter. I had a tubular k member and solid drop mounts and stock mustang efi valve covers still wouldn't clear the brake booster. I have pictures of the ENTIRE process on my phone from when I did it. I like to do progress albums of my cars😁
I put a 460 in my fox. I used a Nascar lower air cleaner. It dropped the air cleaner all the way around the carburetor. Under a 3.5" cowl. Car was quick. But dosent matter its not a 351.
Stock sn95 front drive and timing cover waterpump bolt up without the need of the ford racing adapter brackets for the fox but the ac lines and bulkhead connector at the compressor are different for the sn Energy suspension mounts I believe are the aftermarket equivalent to the shorter oem convertible engine mounts. Various efi intakes naturally have different heights but with gt40 and cobras I believe being the shortest with using a stock hood and possibly kmember spacers
If you use sn95 front accessory brackets you need to use a sn95 timing cover as well because they are a different width than the foxbody. If you use the foxbody timing cover and sn95 brackets your waterpump will not be aligned with the rest of the accessories.

Neomustangs no, I have a 94 Lightning and the TF module is on the fender. If I got another distributor like the one in the Lightning for my mustang, can that be modified. That was my question but what I found out is the dizzy from a 90 f-150 with a 351 has the TF module like a Mustang so I’m good now.
Has anyone put a 351C in the fox? Back in the day in the Pinto and Mustang II these ruled pro stock. Of course those had tubular front ends. Would the Cleveland fit or is it even wider than the W?
Cleveland is wider...my Windsor is pretty tight, especially the headers at the steering shaft (bought swap headers which are notched). I took a tall set of valve covers OFF as there was no room back there for all the fuel injection lines/stuff and put a set of low profile TFS valve covers on. Then again, my other car is a 91 Turbo MR2, so there is PLENTY of room in the Mustang lol....
Just did a sbf Boss 427 crate swap. My main concern was keeping stock hood. Well, that did not happen. Had to go Cobra r hood and that only clears throttle body by 1/4 inch. ( Has to be a way to get it down to at least a 2 inch cowl. Went trickflow R intake. Thinking maybe I should of went carb style efi.
I have a question for you, you briefly touched on roller cams. I'm a bit confused, I bought a 1995 351W roller engine on eBay (F4TE casting), but haven't started tearing into it yet. You said you have to drill the two holes for the dog bone bracket; but if the engine is a factory roller engine, shouldn't that be done from the factory? If not, how are the roller lifters held in place from the factory on these? Thanks! Your videos have been immensely helpful with planning my project, absolutely subscribed to your channel!
Also, budget fuel rails for 351w swap: cut the fuel lines connecting the front and rear and replace it with longer high pressure ethanol safe fuel injection hose. That's what I did. Also, if want to run the stock plenum, the 3/4 ton and 1 ton vans with the 351w ran the same plenum setup as a mustang you can Rob the lower and bolt your stock plenum to it(I have one in my garage sitting on my 1977 351w block atm.)
@@robertelmo7736 lol yeah.... But also, if you had the money, you could have it extrusion ported and keep a stock sleeper look lol. Pretty sure you are correct about the 351W roller coming out in 94. On the roller lifter 302 blocks, the lifter bores are taller than the non-roller. If you use the dog bones on a non roller 302 block, the lifters can rotate and wipe out your cam. Not sure if this is the same for a non-roller 351. So, I would be hesitant to to run anything other than link bar lifters in any non roller block. Thunderhead289 explains it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/fukZI8CIG6g/v-deo.html. Skip to about 8:25 to see it.

Is there a big difference is power between a stroked 363 over a 351? It seems that a 302 based 363 would be a lot easier swap. I’m assuming there’s a price difference to.
363 is a big buck block...will have to be aftermaket dart or boss...looking at $2200-2400 for just the block, machined. Then again, a Boss or Dart will take three times the power lol....

Can a 351w fit a stock Foxbody🐎 K-member? Or does it fit different depending the year of the engine? I heard certain engines have a problem with oil pan.
What i found, i had a UPR tubular in there. Rack sat up higher than Qa1's did. But it was PS rack.. not flaming river. I couldnt run drop mounts over top a power steering rack. So i ran urethanes and it barely cleared for years.
I run the Ford Racing swap pan (Crown Vic) pan with stock K member in my 85 GT and vert mounts. I found the front drain plug gets smacked by the stock anti-sway bar. It cracked my pan. I solved this by using used sn95 anti-sway bar mount brackets that move the bar lower.

THank you !

Also if you use stock accessory brackets, you have to relocate the battery. The power steering pump lands where the battery tray sits.
I used the stock ones on my black car.. didnt have to move battery. I did use the relocation kit for PS in place of AC tho.
I didn't have to relocate it but had to do some trimming.
Yeah, if you're not running PS then it's not a problem, and I might could have trimmed it,but I didn't feel comfortable with trimming it and it being that close to the battery. But whatever works for who's ever car it is! That's what makes this game fun, building it your way.

Love the video and info too btw great info!!!!
Depending on your rotating assembly the 351W could be either 28oz -or- 0 oz balancer
Oil pick up and oil pump (and shaft) are different than 302 as well so Budget for new oiling system.
Most Budget way to do swap is get a running motor and throw a turbo or SC on it. Otherwise plan on spending some coin
Thx for the info!!!!
Good info thank you , definitely helped clear up any doubts 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Thx!
The stock booster worked fine on my 85 GT. I am running vert mounts and stock 85 GT valve covers.
Energy suspension mounts I believe are the aftermarket equivalent to the shorter oem convertible engine mounts.
Various efi intakes naturally have different heights but with gt40 and cobras I believe being the shortest with using a stock hood and possibly kmember spacers
Yes your correct
If you use sn95 front accessory brackets you need to use a sn95 timing cover as well because they are a different width than the foxbody. If you use the foxbody timing cover and sn95 brackets your waterpump will not be aligned with the rest of the accessories.

What distributor? Is there a way to alter the stock 351 efi distributor to mount the TF module on the dizzy like the Mustang’s?
Its physically longer. IF you mean altering a 302 one to fit.

That would mak ea great video.
351C Fox was actually an easier plug change than the Windsor both with 1 3/4 headers, Herman made a Cleveland swap header back in the day

F4te is already set up for roller yes

Also, budget fuel rails for 351w swap: cut the fuel lines connecting the front and rear and replace it with longer high pressure ethanol safe fuel injection hose. That's what I did. Also, if want to run the stock plenum, the 3/4 ton and 1 ton vans with the 351w ran the same plenum setup as a mustang you can Rob the lower and bolt your stock plenum to it(I have one in my garage sitting on my 1977 351w block atm.)
Yes!
That intake deal has to choke the life out of it lol...but I guess until you can upgrade it would be ok?
Wonder what boost would do lol...
@@robertelmo7736 lol yeah.... But also, if you had the money, you could have it extrusion ported and keep a stock sleeper look lol. Or port the lower and buy one of those box type uppers that I've seen on summit for the stock lowers. Idk if they make em anymore but they were kinda like the upper plenum neomustangs is running but plastic and for the stock lowers.
Expo I am an old man and got into the Foxbody scene early before the aftermarket took off.
I actually cut my stock upper in half with a sawz all and ported it out each way and then had it spot welded and I JB welded back together LOL.
I also had a Hartman box which is what you are talking about on the stock lower.
Had a buddy spray nitrous in one and it blew it into 1000 pieces and he tried to glue it back together LOL good times.
@@robertelmo7736 that's awesome!!! I actually thought about doing the sawz all thing, not to port it, but to make what you called a "Hartman box" out of eighth inch aluminum and Tig weld it all up, but it just stayed an idea lol.
Whats the best tubular k member to buy?
Either works. Qa1. Upr. Maximum.
Skip to about 8:25 to see it.
thx
I was curious... Yeah nope... I'd say a stroker crank is the cheaper easier way to add 45ci... This is the kinda stuff that swayed me to GM 5.0 to 5.7 or even 6.6 is direct bolt zero changes not this mess of mods. Thanks for the heads up lol.
Great point!
Is there a big difference is power between a stroked 363 over a 351? It seems that a 302 based 363 would be a lot easier swap. I’m assuming there’s a price difference to.
RPM.. and ya about that same power level tho. 351's dont like to live above 6500 ish.. 363 you can take to the moon.
363 is a big buck block...will have to be aftermaket dart or boss...looking at $2200-2400 for just the block, machined.
Then again, a Boss or Dart will take three times the power lol....
Robert Elmo A Dart block is the way to go but not a lot of heads fit. Boss is compatible with most cylinder heads.
You can drop a 460 bbf no problem in a fox body. Not a problem did it many times in mid 80s

Wrong channel bud, we're talking about building and swapping motors in foxbody aka ford's not chevrolet trucks aka junk
So you drove the tubro and supercharger what you like better and what gave you more power just adding it .
Turbo
Turbo for sure and it doesn't make boost all the time like a Supercharger. Easier on the crank. Out of the hole a Supercharger will make power sooner, but once the Turbo builds boost you will fly by the Supercharged car.
I have a 351w 2 barrel engine im going to rebuild and stroke it as well maybe a turbo maybe 2. I'm looking for a 88 to 89 gt hatch auto roller so I can build my ultimate sleeper for a roller I'm only gonna pay 500 for roller because 10plus years ago my dad bought a running and driving 88 gt auto hatch for 100 but I know times change but my price is firm so lmk what yall find no manual I prefer to stay on gas while others shift doesn't mean I cant drive one just dont want one
Ah I get it.
Going to need a new transmission too. All that torque is going to break it lol!
I just got my swap kinda done for now...stock 302 with ball drive Paxton to 393 Lightning roller stroker...never looking back as the 351 block is so much stronger. You really don't have a choice with the 302 unless you step up to Dart/Boss if you want to go north of 550. Stock Rack and Pinion doesn’t fit without notching as well from what I’ve been told. Informative video though thank you
What i found, i had a UPR tubular in there.
