I know that for every weak cylinder it pulls from another so its probably going to come back some or a ring is broke and it is what it is. Since this is a last winter video, you've found an fixed it or like you said, if four don't get you home then six most likely wasn't going to help that much. Looks like fifty gallon barrel fenders might keep mud out of the windshield. I am just grateful that your making a video here and there again... take care neighbor.
Just keep driving if its rings what hurt is hurt keep driving even on 5 cylinders that old truck will enjoy living. and running for years. Glad you posted this video.
Nicely done sir. I’m jealous of all your war machines. They are hard to find around here. I would love to get my hands on something my son and I can build up.
Yes you finally got it running some what she a old girl and has a lot of character. And hopefully your cylinder come a round. Love those old army truck so much history.👍👍👍
Might have a bad valve seat. No way to know for sure with out pulling the head. Love that old truck. Nice to see her moving under her own power. Great job!
"That's fine" sounded like you were channeling Derek from Vice Grip Garage. Congrats on the powered movement. Can't wait to see you buff out that paint! 😁
Hand prime fuel pump, now you’re just showing off lol but in all seriousness that’s a badass truck you have 10/10, still envious of that fuel pump though and looking forward to seeing more of the projects.
I found my miss the other day when filling the RAd with water, that distinct sound of plug wire arcing look around see the flash against the header, yep friends are awesome help as help is given. Sketchy only way to go in the great North... lol.
Hey Brother! It sure sounds ok when idling. That one cylinder will come back, with your expertise and more run time it'll be alright. That snow sure looks refreshing right now! Take care Bro and can't wait for more!
Old trick around here is to slowly pour atf into the carb, you may have to rev it a little to keep it going. May help loosen up any stuck rings and will Fogg out any mosquitoes in the area
@@johndowe7003 That sucks though. I did it once on an old Volvo that ran on all the time and it was the last idea I could come up with, the other was on a old Dodge 1 ton van.
I couldn't click on your video fast enough buddy. It's really good to see you back have seriously been wondering what was going on hoping all was well and you didn't just decide to quit because I truly enjoy watching you work on those old trucks I'm not very old but you're much younger than me and it's good to see younger generation still being loved with old trucks like that. I know when your last video you said something about why you haven't been on there cuz of all a sickness or illness whatever not 100% sure which is totally understandable you don't need to explain exactly what's going on you know that's for you to decide if you want to go and more depth about it. I'm just glad to see you posting some videos again. And I wish you all the luck with whatever's been ailing you. I'm not one for prayers and all that but I definitely be thinking about your brother. Normally Sunday morning first thing I watch is the new mustie1 video. Us being as been missing watch you work on your trucks definitely taking his spot this morning. Thank you and till you get your strength 100% back again be careful don't work yourself too hard.
@@BackyardAlaskan you're welcome brother. I'm going through some health issues myself I can't say I understand but to have anything that is debilitating to the point where you can't enjoy the stuff you love doing it's frustrating. It's just good to see you out there getting some work done I know sweet rigs you got. I love old military vehicles. I used to make radiators for all the old willys Jeeps did the original reproductions same way they used to make them back in the day everything comes in flat. We make the radiator cores by hand nothing like how newer ones are done by far all of bracketry and tanks came as flat steel flat brass and make them from scratch. I wish fortunate enough to do a couple radiator for some of the very rare Ford built Jeeps. Ford was making willys Jeeps cuz Willy's did not have production capacity keep up with the war effort Ford actually made Jeeps under the actual ford name. From what I understand the one that we did the radiator for have been parked in a Barn wedge between two beams cuz apparently the farmer's son almost rolled it. This thing had everything that it went in the service with on it all the shovels and all the kit stuff you see attached to them. I understanding from talking to this guy there's only a handful and existence and only a few more could possibly be built with parts that were available pretty cool. Too bad I still don't work there because if I did I definitely would take care of you making new radiator and it'll be a spitting image of the original but also the way more efficient than what came in there originally.
She still moves even on 5 cyl Hopefully that cyl will come back in after you run her for a While. Get it good and warm and let cool and warm again About 5 times hopefully anyhow...Great Video Bud..
Based on the troubleshooting you've done, most likely one of two things is going on with that cylinder. Either there is a valve that is burnt, though it doesn't seem to be popping out of the intake, so that would leave the exhaust valve, or more likely, you have a broken compression (top) piston ring. I didn't notice an excessive amount of smoke but given compression remained at 25 PSI even with oil in the cylinder, this would make the most sense. You may be able to bump it up with thicker oil in the cylinder, maybe test it with some gear oil, just for confirmation. These old motors had iron piston rings in them from the factory, so if it has never been opened up, that is what you are dealing with. The newer moly rings are more forgiving and then to be less brittle. Still, it sounds good and I'm glad you've got her running again. It's great you have a source that will rebuild your water pumps. I just picture "Autozone Jones, Raider of the Lost Part" trying to find pieces for your trucks at any retailer. Lol!
Had a low compression issue on a mopar 360, cylinder misfire. Filled cylinder with rislone ring sealer(probably could use marvel or most anything who knows), let it sit two days, pumped out most so no hydro. drove it smoked like mad, after 30 minutes or so, engine smoothed out, no check engine light. Thanks for sharing, keep on truck'n!
Yay most likely know about Marvel Mystery Oil down the cylinders for breaking rings loose. Might want to give it a try on number 3. I have had good luck with it.
Great job so happy to see it runs on her power and your clutch is working good. i am almost done cleaning and rebuilt the brakes of my gmc cckw i hope it will not rain this week so that i can test run and see if the brakes is working.
Bloke. There is some old gits stashed that stuff in there sheds here in New Zealand. Also Australia. I've seen crates and crates of them. Ex military.. Good on ya mate. X
Hi, really enjoy the old trucks, I have a us army GMC parts book for cckwx-353 6x6 series 1941, don't need it as I am a model A & T guy mostly. It is about the size of a magazine so won't cost me much to send if you want it it is yours.
Working on a old truck like that you rebuild lots of parts like break calipers and master u rebuild it i lerned all about rebuildi g the parts back in erly 90s now you just buy the hole new part on cars back then a machanic would rebuild his starters and brake parts and trannys and such now its all plug and play alot of machanics wont take a motor down they say u need a motor back then in 40s you would replace a crank bering or lifter
Im looking at a 506. Are wheel cylinders, drums and brake shoe kits available for these? I want to be able to drive this as a daily (10 miles a day) and want to know if consumable items are available and not crazy expensive. Also did all the G506 come with safari front windows or just the military cckw? Love your channel.

Give er the I-Tal-ion tune up. Maybe the dead cylinder will wake up. There could be crud in the rings or crud in the valve seats.

Great to see it moving under it’s own power. I used to assemble two and a half ton trucks at AM General when I was 18 years old.
Coolness..... That was fun first thing in the morning, since it's just about 7:25am here in Tx.

I'm glad you're doing better, good taste in Rigs and equipment, some new stuff is okay , but old stuff is the best simplicity at its finest!
These trucks don't know how to quit lol Tough as they come [like the era they came from]. :-)
I miss Alaska in the summer but the winter would kill me now
