    Pokemon Origins debunks every comment saying "Red is us as the player, so he can't talk" Also in Pokemon generations the other trainers are shown to be much more friendly even without dialogue. Gold smiles at the success of the Lake of Rage Mission.

      You would probably change your mind when you see the cut lines. They likely weren't added because they made you hate him WAY too much. Just imagine you slog through the E4 and finally beat the final boss, only to lose to him and have to hear him monologue about how great he is, followed with a "Nice try, loser! Hahaha!" Not adding those lines certainly changed his character, but I would imagine that Red had gone through a similar transformation, only less verbose.

    • @johnfulcher8448
      @johnfulcher8448 6 років тому +11

      collin boyer Giovanni being a bad guy is subjective, I think we are influenced by a sense of morality fed to us by one point of view with not enough information. The Manga really shows Giovanni off as a wise and powerful leader with an open mind and solid ideals

    • @zenzero4899
      @zenzero4899 6 років тому +13

      so if oak has a higher tolerance, and Giovanni himself being more arrogant, wouldn't that mean that someone would have to be more arrogant for oak to point it out than Giovanni? Calling someone else arrogant is part of who you are if you are arrogant.

  • @aeinzalot
    @aeinzalot 6 років тому +56

    Have you even noticed that generations is literally based in the games and so the person you play as would be silent like red, gold, etc.
    Also we don’t really see his mouth in shot so you can’t say he’s not smiling but you can’t say the opposite. As the player in this situation the only thing that player would want to do IS win.
    The anime version of red that you showed is just that. A version of red.

    Good and evil aren't split into two clear separate sides. Red's actions depict him as a usual trainer, having their Pokemon get hurt in a battle is nothing new. His anger on the other hand is at others who cause problems or aren't proactively helping if they can. Red *assaulting* Blue was because Blue could of helped, but he wasn't planning to simply because someone else would later. Misusing his abilities and invaluable strength to continue his journey rather than help the Pokemon Team Rocket were attacking. Doesn't sound very humane does it? His support could of made things a lot easier, but he chose the greedy, self indulging path unlike Red.

      To be fair, With the exceptions of Red, Leaf, Ethan/Gold, Crystal's equivalents, White, Whis, Black, Blake, and kind of Sun and Moon, we actually know the other protag's personalities somewhat through Ash's journey and the Rival protag's personality, since many parallels can be drawn to those characters. Especially since most of them are the same character. Why not Ethan/Gold and co. as well? Pfft, Idunno.
      Ex: May would have her personality from the show, with a bit more affinity for battles, and Brendon would have his Rival personality.
      Ex2: Lucas would probably be the partner personality, with Dawn having a similar personality to her anime version.
      Final example: Calem would take the rival personality with Serena being more of a battle trainer than her Anime version.
      Of course, these are only assuming the origins of the Anime counterparts are the correct ones.

    Recently I read a fanfic with Red that portrayed him as being deaf. Some people who are deaf and don't have hearing aids speak gargled sounding language, because they can't hear or know what they sound like, or anyone else for that matter. And I liked that representation and concept. He knew he couldn't speak well aside from sign language so he wouldn't speak, to avoid ridicule. The game version of Red, that is.

    We as players don’t really have the “feelings” of Pokemon when we are playing the game because everything is programmed for us. But for the protagonist it might be prostrated differently. When we started Pokemon, our first Pokemon is always the strongest the one we always use, this links to the fact Red was able to defeat a 5v1 only using his starting Pokemon. As the game goes on we players starts to keep on wanting legendaries and more power and once we finish the game we stop playing it this link to the fact Red portrays us the players. When we finish the game we don’t do anything and don’t talk to anyone in the game this shows that Red is alone with nobody. Red can’t do anything if the player isn’t controlling him so technically Red can’t speak because we never see any dialogs on him but then again he can speak to people in the game which means if we don’t control Red he can’t speak. we don’t have feelings of Pokemon because we think they programmed and for Red this is the case. We battle trainers until our Pokemon are weak and fainted this is also portrayed in Red.
    Technically Red is this hollow husk whom represents the players. Red is us.

  • @lockdownhamza
    @lockdownhamza 3 роки тому +8

    Still though, I think they made it so that Red himself still portrays us, the main character, because he has a more competitive view on battling and has no dialogue, he’s the first playable antagonist anyways, us as the player just force the Pokemon to learn HMs/TMs so we can use them to travel across the region, that’s exactly what Red is doing, I mean what else should he do scout out for danger himself then DIE because he isn’t a Pokemon? Sheesh.
    And the PKMN Origins Red is already fake enough, he’s super cartoony and talkative in that timeline.

  • @ralynedin

    I always had a theory that Red was like taking what Pokémon is, a fun adventure where your trying to be "The very best, like no one ever was!" and going far to exteme with it.
    When Red scales Mt. Silver overlooking the Johto region he sees a whole new challenge and world to explore, he's caught them all in Kanto and beat every trainer, he's made his ultimate team. Yet he doesn't stop, he wants to keep going unlike the charaters of other Pokémon games they never wanted more, they beat the League, became the champion and that was it. They didn't want anything else, and past Gen 2 it's impossible to "Catch them all!" without some sort of exploit. Gold stopped Red from trying to be the best, because Red already was...

    Red wasent dark or evil he was quite opposite really. He was passionate and a man of action. And their were mutiple times Red was the "hero". Thats why he trained so hard why he faced team rocket alone. Red loved his starter he connected with it he choose charmander to honor his father and he identified with his grit determination and unyielding flames of surrender. Thats why whever he was in a very tight situation he called upon his starter he had complete faith in him. Hes strong silent type.

    I’m pretty sure red was emotionless because he saw something that made him snap, maybe that’s because why he was at the mountain. Red is not a bad guy, he has too much of a drive to win in the end, after red takes down team rocket, the talk with Giovanni probably scarred him. It’s the reason he’s not talking, he knows that he needs to care about his Pokémon, he’s trying to come back, black and white you fight red, he’s travelling more and seeing new things. That’s what he’s doing

    Also-Red’s the only protag to frown in any of his official art. Yeah, he smiles in his first one, but in his FRLG art he just looks really angry. Really makes you wonder though, if Leaf is supposed to be just a genderbent Red, why does she look happy in her official art and not Red... calling it now, something happened to Red after going atop Mt. Silver that changed him. However, someone (presumably Blue) didn’t let Leaf go to Mt. Silver, saving her from whatever fate Red met.

    Ah Pokemon theorists overthinking stuff....
    Remember this: Pokemon is still aimed at youngsters there are no secret plots going on in the story, there are plot holes because there are supposed to be, there isn't meant to be an explanation to all changes you spot in animes / games.
    In this case they're clearly giving us an easter egg about how the character Red was when we played as him in the very first games, even though memes didn't kind of exist at the time, it was kind of a meme between players that our character was always silent and never said a word, we always wanted to "hear" him speak, but we never did, and never will, so his appearance in Sun and Moon backed up by Blue's dialogue is just a little nod to that fact.
    The version portrayed in Pokemon Origins tried to answer that call, but it cannot be associated to main games in any way, and your interpretation of his character development is nothing more than your wishful thinking that there has to be more to it.... There isn't, it is what it is.

Sure blue sounded so mean to red but that’s to make him stronger as rivals. There has to be both good and evil in rivalry so red is slowly becoming a bad person than blue becomes more friendly towards everyone

    For whatever reason, Red has always come off to me as if he some sort of social anxiety. He doesn’t speak unless a dialogue choice is chosen by the the player themself, and he doesn’t speak at all when he isn’t being controlled by the player. He is only ever confirmed to speak when he encounters the copycat girl (if I remember correctly) so he doesn’t seem to talk at all otherwise, as “yes” and “no” can be illustrated by nodding or shaking your head. It never felt to me that the Red in the games was ever a villain, and he instead has some sort of anxiety.

    Kinda gets thrown away when you learn that Red wins officially against Blue because Red had a bond with his Pokemon, a bond that blue failed to grasp because all Blue saw was to be the best, Red wanted to get stronger sure but isn't that a trainers overall goal he still cares about his Pokemon in the end as he doesn't pout or yell at his Pokemon when he loses, he just accepts the defeat and tries to learn from it, in game Red might be a silent type, just no interest in chatting, doesn't make him evil.

    He no longer has the blessing of "player input".
    After losing the blessing at the end of gen 1, he felt lost without it. It used to be an integral part of who he was. He trained and trained because that's what his mentality was conditioned to do. But this time, without the player's guidance.
    He became the only NPC that experienced the sheer incredible power of the blessing. He has not forgotten the feeling. He was able to overcome every trainer he came across, guided by the memories of his blessing. He gradually grew bored of dominating every opponent he faced.
    He eventually found the blessing again, but this time on someone else. A challenger approached him at Mt. Silver, and he was beaten by the boy who now had the power he once had. Realizing that the blessing is no longer his, he gained a sense of purpose once more. He now dedicates his training to one day be able to defeat the people who were blessed like he once was.
    This is my fan theory of Red.

    Interesting theory, I see what you mean with Red being harsh towards the Pokemon, I think it shows how we were as red back in generation1. Just using one Pokemon to thrash the game with I feel like that's how red. He probably don't care but anything but winning.
    Only when your on the top of mt.silver and your the strongest trainer in the world, it's lonely at the top, he probably thinks his Pokemon is strong enough not to go Pokemon center..
    As for the him not saying a word, it does come off a little rude.. or maybe he has selective mutism (condition where you don't speak in specific places) I had this when I was at school,
    Maybe he didn't talk so instead let his speech/anger out only in the battlefield.
    And not talking maybe heightened other senses/feelings.
    So when he did talk it was probably the feelings he was holding back on.
    It's not a permanent thing.
    Maybe why he was alone on mt. silver to talk/ bond with Pokemon without others being around.
    Pokemon probably made him safe and it was lonely at the top, so what's left to do but get along with the Pokemon
    (Kinda reminds me of snow way out episode in that perspective)

    5:30.
    I will subscribe to you now, verlisify, as this is the best content I've yet seen, if only because it is divisive in its content.
    But if you cannot understand the this moment, that this is truly the point where Red makes his stand against his lifelong rival and BEST FRIEND, that this is a pivotal moment of character that you felt whilst playing these games. This is not bully behavior. This is a reality check to your FRIEND. You may not have seen eye to eye, perspectives are parallel to the cause. Red isn't numb to his partners. They are not tools. They too, are his friends fighting for a common cause. He sees the bigger picture. Much as a monk realizes the philosophical dichotomy of righteousnes, so does Red seeing the bigger picture. So be it aggressive behavior to make a stand for what is (utilitarianistally) the righteous cause against your friend, endeavoring (pun intended) to be bend his will to the greater good, to help you, help Pokémon. And the world itself, anarchiachal as it may be, needs such a hero. I needn't finish this video to make this point here. Message me, please. I have thoughts and ambitions rooted in Pokémon that I'd love to debate with you.

    I made some researches as well and you know what I've learned? Red in Manga, Game and Anime are completely different persons.
    - Manga Red: Picked Bulbasaur. Friendly, kind heart who teach the others to do so with Pokemon (Yellow is the obvious). He's already the best trainer in his town when the manga begins.
    - Game Red: Picked Charmander. NEVER SAY A WORD. Has to play through some tutorial (I'll say that he learns to be a trainer), after that, HE DOESN'T LOSE A SINGLE FIGHT.
    - Anime Red: ... This is a little bit hard, still picked Charmander, but his personality is .. kindda.. unclear. Some time harhs, some time arrogant, and... so on.I... um.. don't know how to catch this but in this real world, prople call it either Tsundere of Multiple Personality. and it took like 2 episode for him to be a good trainer, thats way too long
    And the 3 also becomes the legends in their Kanto, but to me, in their own ways.

My thoughts were "oh no, Blue is going to be a jerk to me" , but no, i did feel he was friendly, like a great guy to hang around with. Really up beat. The whole "Red being silent" thing is kinda strange. None of the other Protagonists speak either, but some do have some speech choices, suggesting they can talk. The only difference is that we don't really see any of the protagonists aside from Red outside their introduction games. Yet only Red gets the whole "being silent" treatment.
