Lorre’s increasingly exasperated end cards were funnier than the show itself. Once I noticed Sheen’s nasally voice (too much coke?) I found it hard to get through an episode. That and the laugh track. And the claustrophobic sets and repetitive wardrobe… great show for a while.
Not withstanding Charlie's obvious coke and alcohol usage spilling on to the set, the repetitive wardrobe, his incessant inability to play well with the other cast members and Lorre, etc., etc , etc., Two And A Half Men was the funniest, most clever sitcom in television history. Here in Mexico Two and a Half Men has great fanbase. And most of us agree that the show ended when Charlie left. From time to time I rewatch some episodes for some big laughs. This show was brilliant!
Ashton Kutcher could not replace Charlie in Two and a Hald Men the same way Charlie could not replace Ashton in That 70's Show. It simply can't be done.
a part of me thinks the Charlie Harper character was in part "alternate universe Chuck Lorre", as Charlie Harper claimed to Jake that he wrote the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme...
This show is my one stop whenever i am depressed or sad. Never fails to cheer me up, One of the greatest sitcom ever. Even after watching it multiple times never watched it beyond s8😅
When the show had Jon Cryer and Charlie Sheen, they had a brotherly balance. Alan was the neurotic, dorky, awkward brother, constantly failing with women, the embodiment of the obnoxious little brother. Charlie on the other hand, was the competent, wealthy, good looking, smooth-talking ladies man that almost every guy dreams of being. When Charlie left and was replaced by Ashton, the dynamic changed. Kutchers' character Walden was absolutely nothing like Charlie and was just as awkward and weird as Allen, but slightly more improved than him.
Charlie Sheen was the star of Two and Half Men no matter how much Jon Cryer claims he was actually the co-star of the show, which became blatantly obvious when Charlie Sheen was terminated and Cryer could not carry the show with Ashton Kutcher. I wish they would rename the Kutcher episodes "Two Palace." For those of you who remember when the the 'Golden Girls' tried to continue without Bea Arthur they changed the name so we didn't tape/tivo/dvr shows we didn't want to watch. Nothing against Kutcher, but the shows producers changed the dynamic so much that all we had left were a few barely familiar characters. It became a completely different show after Charlie was fired. In my opinion, if Chuck Lorre was positive his format would continue to work without Charlie, why not rename the show to the "Two Guys" or "The Idiot Show" - Lorre and CBS continued the discombobulation of a one time hit show all for sake greed. Every time I see a Kutcher epis
@@radiomemories6913 Exactly. As soon as Kutcher showed up on set, it didn't feel at all like Two and a Half Men. The show felt more of a weird spin-off of the original.

God, I miss this show. It'll forever be one of those special shows to go back to when your feeling nostalgic. Many of the jokes/humor wouldn't fly on TV today. The early 2000's was truly a special time.
I live my life vicariously through Charlie Harper's life. All the 'wild things' that happened, all the dark comedic moments, the drunken stupors, the debaucheries... I can't hold a candle to the man but I can certainly laugh all the way to hell and back and not feel a single shred of guilt!
He didn’t mention that Angus T. Jones found religion and was absent the entire 11th season of the show and only made a cameo in the series finale in fact there were UA-cam videos of him urging people to not watch Two And A Half Men when he found religion
@Milanche377 yeah I agree but it was still somewhat watchable when Walden (Ashton Kutcher) entered the scene but yeah it was much better with Charlie if you actually read the vanity card in the very last episode entitled “Of Course He’s Dead” it actually says that Chuck Lorre wanted Sheen to come back and say something like “I’m an invincible alien” Chuck Lorre and his staff thought that would be funny Sheen however did not which is why Sheen doesn’t make an appearance in the final episode even though Lorre wanted him to
I forgot to include the very funny character of Berta, who’s chaotic humor was one of the central characters keeping the household together. Conchita Ferrel who we recently lost much to soon. Condolences…🙏😢
It seemed to me that Charlie was a bit more surly and hostile towards the end! Angus held his own but again, he was restless at the end! Ashton Kutcher was a square peg in a round hole and just wore everyone down.
Something I have always been curious about and you should had included in your video, is that: Charlie Sheen, Rose, Allan, Hellen, Berta, Herbert, Judith + a few other "guest stars" in Two and a Half Men, they ALL were in the Hot Shots 1+2 movies from the early 90s. Which was parody comedy movies. Was it the producers of Two and A Half Men that saw that movies and thought to himself that these guys have perfect chemistry? let's make a sitcom!
It was fun seeing Alan get degraded by his own brother and ex wife 😂 but it got real emotional and hard to watch when he lost his manhood to all people in Walden's life... Everyone taking a dump on him everywhere..even strangers😢😢😑
i think if u know Ahton from Punk'd and before, you know he is a fun guy. In two and a half , his character Waldon was lame and we were all mad Charlie is gone
Mad respect to Charlie Sheen! If you don’t agree with that lifestyle, Well that’s why we live in America so you can have your own opinion and have your own lifestyle!
In my opinion, it wasn't about lifestyle. There's something here that I don't hear discussed very often. Charlie Sheen was always Charlie Sheen, that's what the show was based on. But at the end, what we saw was Charlie Sheen losing it as he dealt (or couldn't deal) with the fact that he was now HIV+.
I remember Ashton saying at Emmy, "I am not Charlie Sheen" and you know what Ashton, you will never be...!!! Charlie Sheen made the show what it is. I never saw it after season 8. Kutcher tried I’ll give him that. Charlie was Charlie and it’s sad Sheen went the route he went. He could’ve kept it balanced but got worse and worse and worse each year
It's not the writing that killed it, it's changing the very frame of the show.... it was no longer about two and a half men, it became a totally different sitcom... If they had started it like that from the beginning with him not being Alan's brother but as two strangers being roommates it would have tanked before the first season was over... there would not have been anyone watching anymore. I repeat, it was the common bond the characters had that made the show what it was...when they removed the skeleton the corpse collapsed....
In season nine, when Ashton join the show, the script they gave Jon Cryer, making him such a sucky loser, turned me off so much, I could hardly watch it. When they had Jon and Ashton "marry" was the final straw SO STUPID. Also, the hole series would have been better if they had portrayed Jake as really smart instead of a bozo. When young, Jake was really smart. Then as the show progressed and Jake got older, the writers made him stupid.

Hold up did I just here 7:42 that she was only going to be in 2 episodes then they loved her suggestion so much she appeared in 198 more episodes yo I still miss conchanta rip
As much as I agree this show isn’t nothing without Charlie I also know it’s heavy relying on berta as well and they would have made a huge mistake if they got rid of her after only 2 episodes.
There are two fundamental truths about 2 1/2 men: 1. It ran for 10 seasons. What happened after that I don't really care. 2. Charlie Sheen was hired to play himself. But, like a drunk who is funny at parties but gets old, he got old. They can't really complain that he BECAME annoying, since he was always that.
Even if they did do a spin-off called The Harpers would Angus be on board with his new found religious beliefs and would it feature Amber Tamblyn as Charlie’s lesbian daughter Jenny and would Holland Taylor come back as well? We know it wouldn’t have Berta because of the passing of Conchata Ferrell unless they get someone else to do Berta
EXCELLENT summary! (I see why this has 66K Likes, as of Nov 2023). The switch to Kutcher never made sense (it was always Charlie's show), and I completely lost interest when Sheen left.
I will always love _Two And a Half Men_ with both Charlie and Ashton. Sure it helped me to see 'Michael Kelso' in a different role, but the man knows how to do comedy. Despite all that i do prefer the Charlie seasons a bit better. That's because that was the foundation to the show i love. Had Ashton did the first 8 seasons for example, it would be similar weird seing him replaced bij Charlie. Now moving on to watch the last s5 episodes on dvd and thinking of buying s9 to s12 also. Because _Two And a Half Men_ is my favorite Chuck Lorre show. Nice job everyone involved creating this:)
Every actor is made to play a certain character. Charlie Harper was based on Charlie Sheen and therefore no one could have played it better. Similarly Ashton was born to play Kelso.
I've said this a few times before. The show could have gone on with Ashton Kutcher but the scripts were just horrible. This wouldn't be the only time a Chuck Lorre show was simply cashing paychecks in their last few years. But what really bothered me was what they did to the character of Charlie after Sheen left the show. I understand everyone being hurt and upset with Charlie Sheen the actor. He was endangering their livelihood, But they took it out on Charlie Harper. Charlie Sheen wouldn't have peed on me if I was on fire. But Charlie Harper was my friend. The show made me like him. And Charlie Harper was trying (and slowly succeeding) at being a better person. And they took a massive continuous dump on Charlie Harper. As with most Chuck Lorre sitcoms, the true villain was their mother, the monster who screwed up both boys so badly,
It was Charlie's show. Remember he found out that he had HIV in 2011 just as his trouble on the show was happening the major trouble. Which led to his firing
You could tell in the early days what they where going for. Charlie : Rich badboy lover who drinks a lot but things do go his way. Alan : The hopeless romantic who doesn't see that his crowd pleasing ways make poeple hate him not love him. Jake : A kid smarter than his age who's impressionable by his uncle Charlie. And all 3 changed a lot. Alan turned into an extra cheap weasle who does commit selfish acts and on many ocasions lie and cheat. Charlie turned into a drunk with an actual problem who can't get a stable relationship. And jake was turned into a negative IQ stoner Ngl all 3 decisions hurt the show more than they helped it. As for Walden, they never really figured out what to make of him. Is he a manchild in need of Alan's guidance, is a he the voice of reason, is he the stable lover, is he just as clueless as the thest? All are both true and false depending on the episode so he never really turned into an iconic figure like Charlie
I only watched a few of the Ashton Kutcher episodes and that was enough for me. Not only did Lorre not create a good character for him but I didn’t feel any real chemistry between Alan & Waldon
When I was in my early 20s I used so many tips Charlie would say on the show to oick up women,...honestly pretty spot on most of them worked lol...maybe too well, now with a kid 😅🤣
When Jake let flog of seagul in his room ,Charlie quite upset nervertheless he knell to 10 year old Jake and talk uncle & nephew out . It had made me thought of my dad when he try to teach me how to deal with my bed- wetting habit when I were 10.

Charlie is one of my favorite comedy actors! Loved the show, I still watch it when it’s on
"'Jon Cryer isn't rushing back to the Malibu beach house" - How ironic
They set Ashton for failure with that horrific writing
It's not the writing that killed it, it's changing the very frame of the show.... it was no longer about two and a half men, it became a totally different sitcom... If they had started it like that from the beginning with him not being Alan's brother but as two strangers being roommates it would have tanked before the first season was over... there would not have been anyone watching anymore. I repeat, it was the common bond the characters had that made the show what it was...when they removed the skeleton the corpse collapsed....
I’m a supper fan of the show with the original cast! Always watch re runs. I feel it was one of the funniest sit- cons ever made 😂😂😂
Here in Florida, is on every week night, 7pm Wtog CW, watch it every night, I like the early one, when Jake was a little dumb kid !!
Then as the show progressed and Jake got older, the writers made him stupid.
to u whose reading this, i take a moment to pray that whatever u're going thru gets better & whatever u're struggling with or worrying about is going to be fine. thru ups & downs, success & failures never forget the above almighty is always there spiritually & won't leave behind with u have faith & trust him with all ur heart & everything goes well, wishing everyone have a blessed day. Amen ❣️🙏🏼
I have seasons 1-8 on continuously. I have the DVDs though it is also on HBO. Once I finish season 8, it's back to start of season 1
love this show!!!
Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer had good chemistry on screen. Ashton and Jon just didn’t feel right.
Man what a great show that was the time when you could have a show like this and be alright lol
I recently started watching this show and when uncle charlie died the show did not feel the same
Hold up did I just here 7:42 that she was only going to be in 2 episodes then they loved her suggestion so much she appeared in 198 more episodes yo I still miss conchanta rip
Wow. I didn't know but now I do. It sure was a very good show back then. Charlie sure fukkedit up for sure. Very interesting.
Superb💯
Charlie Sheen was the heart and soul of that show!
To bad sheen didn't handle it better because he made that show!
The show was never the same after Charlie left. I tried to watch a couple of episodes but couldn't even get through them.
As much as I agree this show isn’t nothing without Charlie I also know it’s heavy relying on berta as well and they would have made a huge mistake if they got rid of her after only 2 episodes.
agree. I loved both Berta and their mother.
There are two fundamental truths about 2 1/2 men:
Berta will be missed! Frasier was revived, so can this show!!
even "the harpers" sounds better then season 9-12
Lorre's inflated ego ruined it
Instant dislike at hearing ''Jake'' was the heart of the show
Loved it with Charlie, never watched it with Ashton, still won't.
As with most Chuck Lorre sitcoms, the true villain was their mother, the monster who screwed up both boys so badly,
Don't take it so seriously.....it's just a sitcom...
It was Charlie's show. Remember he found out that he had HIV in 2011 just as his trouble on the show was happening the major trouble. Which led to his firing
The 🐐 of sitcoms
You could tell in the early days what they where going for.
Charlie : Rich badboy lover who drinks a lot but things do go his way.
Alan : The hopeless romantic who doesn't see that his crowd pleasing ways make poeple hate him not love him.
Jake : A kid smarter than his age who's impressionable by his uncle Charlie.
And all 3 changed a lot. Alan turned into an extra cheap weasle who does commit selfish acts and on many ocasions lie and cheat.
Charlie turned into a drunk with an actual problem who can't get a stable relationship.
And jake was turned into a negative IQ stoner
Ngl all 3 decisions hurt the show more than they helped it.
But they apparently got married
When I was in my early 20s I used so many tips Charlie would say on the show to oick up women,...honestly pretty spot on most of them worked lol...maybe too well, now with a kid 😅🤣
brilliant show
6:10 It would be difficult to do a revival, with Jake's actor not into acting that much and Berta's actress's death.
Hugh Grant made the right call turning down the part
When Jake let flog of seagul in his room ,Charlie quite upset nervertheless he knell to 10 year old Jake and talk uncle & nephew out .
It had made me thought of my dad when he try to teach me how to deal with my bed- wetting habit when I were 10.
Choosing the right characters can either make a show a deal breaker.
