Saw the "A" class Vettes running at Road Atlanta 40 years ago. When 15 or 20 of them came down the main straight the first time, the hair on your arms would stand up. The ground was literally shaking, you could feel it through your whole body. Nothing like it!
There's nothing in the world like eight large, high compression cylinders burning high octane racing fuel in perfect harmony. It's like listening to a band of angels playing heavy metal on satans stereo.
back in the days when these were raced at 24h Le Man, the racecars were driven there not towed on the trailer...went by a church full throttle and every window got busted .....one of the filipinetti corvettes.
Beautiful 3rd gen L-88 427 Corvette Stingray #38 side piped race car, and yes very loud indeed. I noticed a lot of trees around the course that helps hold noise in, but still impressive sound. I fell in love with the Grand Sport Corvettes, and have watched and listened to the video (CHGP "Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport 1963") on youtube. This Grand Sport kicks butt, and takes names. I also believe that this L-88 427 Corvette Stingray can do the same. Thx JA96 4 posting this video.
Thank you very much, it sure is a wonderful classic American car, the sound is truly unique, I filmed #12 on track a few months back but it was sadly silenced to meet the tracks noise regulations. Yes they are also beautiful cars, the older Corvette's are brilliant machines :)
This car in real life is unreal, the video doesn’t do it justice even at max volume. The sound this thing makes even at 2500-3000 rpm is deafeningly loud and you can hear it at low rpms from an awful long way away, it’s not every car that can demand that kind of presence on the road or track
Those cars are awesome. Would be a thrill to drive one. I love old cars but today's fuel is crap and they simply won't perform on it. I really like the body styles of the older Vettes. And as always, the fatter the tire, the more chances that staying on the road in a curve is improved greatly.
Funny that it's convertible with the optional hard tip bolted on. Seems like the hard top would be lighter and stiffer unless they all had T-tops. Pretty much every 60's hard top C3 I've seen has T-tops.
Loud ?? This is only a 427 cu.in. big block. a 454 with more power or a 540 is louder. Better is a 632 cu.in. with blower. This is loud ! A 427 with around 550 hp and sidepieps have nearly 135 db ! That is cool but not loud. My 400 caprice have 150 hp and full exhaust , with muffler and have 125 db.
I am sure you missed the point.. 12:5 compression, solid lift camshaft.. 427 with open chamber rectangle port heads, Cubic inches do not produce more sound. The LS6 454 was top street engine with 450 rated hp truly nearly 525hp and Chevrolet did produce a LS7 for 1971 with nearly 600hp for race or if you were smart you could order certain pieces dissembled in 1971 and produce a 12:5 to 1 full race 454 known as LS7. I know your point is a loud muffler on your car..is noise this is about POWER>>
So is this a new 'Jackass' movie?. 750 horsepower race cars doing 'boy racer' burnouts on a go cart track with nothing to protect the spectators except for little hay bales? Awesome...
This car raced in IMSA GTO at Riverside back in 1981. RIR, a private circuit, was bulldozed three decades ago to make room for a Lowe's industrial complex.
@james avery yes the hondas with the fart cans when they downshift from 4th to 1st so they can get back up to the speed limit lol. But seriously, a buddy of my dad's runs a road race corvette big block, dual 4 bbl 4 speed with 4.10:1 gears it has 2 & 1/8 headers. It's always at or near peak power 6-7500 rpm it's way nastier than that. This video car is bad ass but not the loudest in the world, I know some drag car corvettes that make this sound tame too
..........on the Street? I really doubt it. I've got past experience with a '69 Mustang that ran a with 428 stuffed in between the fenders back in the late 1970s. At the drag strip I ran it with open headers and you're right they are just as loud.......actually any Big Block by any American Manufacturer from back in the day had the potential to be STUPID LOUD, as I'm sure you know already .......but you don't run 'em that way on the street unless you actually enjoy being pulled over at ever second traffic light.
Back in the 50's JC Whitney came out with a cable cut out some body else came up with a gas cap, then along came cherry bombs which were legal then Flowmasters and now the bank busting Borla's. The truth of the matter is that it all relates to the head flow, duration and taking the cork out of the bottle. Now we have three inch exhaust which would have been ridiculous back then. I never in my wildest ever thought I would pay $500 for a set of headers, Its all about tuned CFM.
64fairlane, this video doesn't do it justice, even at full volume on a high-end sound system. Trust me, when you get that close to a high compression race-built V8 screaming through open headers, you can't even hear yourself think.
That’s a proper American car. Its loud, fast, lots of curves, hard to control, and scares the rest of the world.
Your comment made me spit out my coffee! Hilarious!
I played the Star Spangled Banner after i read your comment , i suddenly was overcome with patriotism lol
🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🏆
That's not a car sound , it's a legendary beast roar , a monster of the road hidden under a car shape.
Nothing like a thunderous V8 to get your heart pumping - positively brutal!
Perfect daily driver.

Oh man , that snarl and lope of the L88 🏁🏁🤩🤩

read some article about that some time ago...can be it was gredder iam not 100% sure about it.🤣
I love the lumpy sound of the ol' Chevy 427!
captainwd40 that isn’t a 427
@@Maximum0084 Yes it is, an L88 IS AN ALL ALUMINUM BLOCK, HEADS & INTAKE 427.......DUMB ASS.
@@howabouthetruth2157 No, the ZL1 427 is the all aluminium 427. The L88 was cast iron block.
@@181le6 Yes, you are correct. I knew better, but had a total brain fart. The L88 did have aluminum heads though.
Wow, that sounds incredible!!
Great video and channel - subd.

Thanks for getting back with me JA96, and in hopes you bring us all more great footage on video like this, I appreciate it, thumbs up!
No worries, I will do my best, thanks for the kinds words :)
This is the sound your neighbours secretly yearn to hear!, every single day,

All cars need to sound like this.
My poor poor millennial son asked me why did he paint his muffler red. That poor kid, well maybe I should just be happy he knew the word muffler. 🤔
I would love that as my ring tone...hahah.
1:21 what a happy looking face that ate the cat that ate the canary.
What a beautiful thing 👍🏻

Top fuel sounding with grand prix functionality...
What a beast !
NOT EVEN CLOSE.
fuck me. that was raw mechanical aggression in the realm of awesomeness 👊👍👌
Very, very cool!!!👍
Love to feel that in my hands
Lola T 70's at Oulton Park in 1968 did for me, horribly loud !!!
Funnily enough I filmed a pair of T70 MK3B’s at Oulton Park back in 2012, amazing sound and downshifts
i just ruined my ears for the rest of the day.... but i wouldn't have it any other way ! love it
Not exactly. The C6 ZR1 can be just as loud

conv with hardtop was more aerodynamic than a coupe. Stiffness was taken care of by the roll cage.
I want that vette sooooo bad for me it's music 👌
He is one with mufflers. It's mine The GAM's 585hp 1976 Stingray Corvette
wasnt tha car just on the barret jackson auction, went for 1,400,000?
Eine FIA-GT1 Corvette C5 ist noch wesentlich lauter....😉
Enough to make a grown man cry
SWEET!!!
Ive heard louder.
Almost as loud as my neighbors shitbox honda
GT Legends!
why do they touch the cars?
0:07 yo it’s the rally 240z
Chills XD
It sounds mad that it's slow as molasses 😂
Spread the gospel into every nation for Christ to return

Bollocks . .I can break wind louder than that . . well, maybe not quite as loud. . . but I have got holes in me grundies to prove it.
tra that on laguna seca now and you get banned for life for racing there :D

Loudest Corvette? Sound like a Moskito. My C3 is much louder!
The one you uploaded a video of? Doesn’t come close…
Loud? My daily driven Ford screams on the same level, nothing special about this
