Crazy how you can recognize the brand by the sound. The Ford sounds like a shy Cobra, the monza reminds an angry Corvette C2 and the Dodge rumbles like a Mopar classic.
One of the best auto racing videos I've seen yet. In a Dodge Charger too! I sure would like to see this class running in today's Sebring, etc. Go Mopar 😁💪🏽
That charger is the meanest looking and sounding and probably to drive, race-car ever at le mans. Must have balls of tungsten to drive this in the rain. Absolutely awesome
✔️ Finally...... Someone with a good enough grasp of the periodic table to choose a more suitable metal _other_ than "brass" to describe someone with lotsa balls. Tungsten was an ideal choice.

Not only do they sound great, those 70’s era muscle cars are hands down the most beautiful cars ever produced in automotive history. Cars and people go together. I assume we get the cars we deserve.
At 54 years old, this is the sound of my youth. Let's see here. Jeff Gordon is leaving NASCAR full time next year. His wife is Belgian. "Hey Mr. Gordon, you want a chance to take one of these old school cars around Le Mans for a few laps?"
Jeff, through the corners maybe, but not in a straight line, remember, that Charger is geared for 180 mph+, I'd be surprised if the Porsche could hit 140
THE BRAIN SPECIALIST The 935 was hitting well over 200 at LeMans back in the late 70s early 80s. The long tail "Moby Dick" version was hitting 228. I saw these cars race. No offense but you have no idea what you are talking about
@@jerodwolford2743 I had a 1968 Super Bee that weighed in at 2,300 lbs. Built in Canada & mostly aluminum & with a Nascar prepped 413 was a beast like this Charger is. That car scared the shit out of people. It had a gear drive that whistled. Drove it on the street for years back when the good gas was priced right. A lot we can do in this State that others can't. It's great.
I was always a fan of high reving 4cylinder engines below 2 l, having driven a NSU TTS with 1300 cc, a Golf GTI 1 with 1600 cc and a 2-seater R5 turbo1 with 1400 cc. But after owning a V8 powered Triumph Stag I am totally hooked on the Sound and relaxed torque of V8's. So please send more. Regards Harry
I remember when a friend of mine built a 400 Big Block Dodge motor for that car and shipped it to the owner from Belleville Ontario. Pretty impressive!!
I understand that when the Charger was starting-up in the pits, a female reporter walked too close to it... And when those pipes barked, she fell-over like a Hyacinth!😁
Love the vid Guys, Richard Petty would be proud, he ran a Charger like that, and you're runnin' today, that is Beautiful, runnin' that Mopar, BLESSINGS TO YOU, MOPAR OR NO CAR
Hab ich schon gesehen :) Nachdem ich den live gehört habe, bin ich süchtig nach dem Sound geworden. Eigentlich klingt jeder Rennmotor auf seine Art geil :D
Good Stuff.....Christophe Schwartz don't sound like one of them there "Good 'Ol Boys" His onboard lap was good, at least he had a good go at it and didn't just Tool around like plenty of others.
Loving this video- Just need a longer clip... some night footage would also be epic! Now change those slicks for rain tires and then do some proper hot laps with that beast!
I can never get over Chevy racing the Monza. You didn't have to take the engine out or even unbolt it to get the last two spark plugs out. I worked with a guy that had a very nice 76 Monza, I never could get him to sell it.
Damn, that old Dodge sounds nice. Mmmmm Hmmm....Turns out I was born in the "right decade" after all...It sure seems like we got outside more and did more stuff (went places, like to dirt track races, roller skated, etc...) than current generation(s)...I wonder sometimes what the "good ole' days" will be like for today's youth...fond memories of playing X-box? Those funny snap-chat-able moments from the mall (at least getting out of the house...)?
These cars can have only four gears because of torque from the huge 7.0L engines. A lazy, unrefined OHV V8 will never make much power relative to its size because it cannot breathe at high RPM. I have an old small block Ford and it stops making any more PS at 3750 RPM! It will spin to 5K, but it cannot do anything. The valves and pushrods bounce around and damages itself. But, because of the displacement, they will always have the torque to overcome long gears and heavy weights. This is why lazy eights do well in pickup trucks, even today. The relatively simple design can be assembled with inexpensive parts and run with considerable variations in tolerances, and yet, they'll happily run at low outputs for decades with maintenance. The scary part is when they *are* refined. Crazy OHV eights have heads made to breathe very well, and the valves, cams and pushrods to behave even at 7~8K RPM. Assembled with exacting tolerances, and race-proven parts, the same V8 design transforms into greatness. That way, these engines can reliably leverage the large displacement to make a lot of PS, while keeping its natural ability to make a lot of torque. www.hotrod.com/articles/ccrp-0810-302ci-small-block-ford/
Completely guessing, but 4 speeds at the time would have been stronger, which they would need with the torque, and in NASCAR they would be using 2 gears only for the oval races((or even one) (besides pits)) so it wouldn't matter how many gears you put.
No replacement for displacement. I miss the guttural roar of 4 litre+ N/A V8s. something primal in it. I wish they shifted at a higher rev range. They really make the hair stir under your cap when they get up higher.
When they're side by side with "the others", it looks like mom cat and her kitten. Can they see the other, especially the open cocpit ones in their mirrors ?
You could play the audio of the charger and I would know its a dodge. I assume the car has either a 426 or 440 maybe a 383 or somewhere inbetween because racecar.
They’re fast those 7ltr v8’s, what’s that yellow and white missile round up the dodge at the 5.07 mark. For all you yanks that’s called a RENAULT and from memory it had a 2ltr in it.
Do you have a 'press card' so to speak? Seems like you had access to the pit area when the cars were racing. Same goes for the Spa Classic video, wonderful footage by the way!
They both had to de tune the engines with double head gaskets as they came to France with NASCAR ENGINES after blowing up in practice they found out the French gas was junk octane! So they raced with just 9.5 to 10-1 compression!!
Imagine being in that yellow Porsche and suddenly hear that thunderstorm flying by. Epic sound!
The charger freight training that porshe at 5:45 made my day

That's a pretty dense set of balls, I'll say I'll say@HighlanderNorth1
The track is very difficult to race as well.
Charger driver really showed some cajones, especially in the light rain...Looks to me like he Rain-Xed his windshield..
the windshield is coated with a hydrophobic compound, not wax.
That Charger and Torino make the purpose build race cars look like go-carts.

To see an Dodge Charger NASCAR blow by a Porsche 935 in the rain of the Mulsanne was awesome (5:50)

That big heavy Charger was putting all over there ass in the rain lol
Heavy? Those cars maybe weigh 3500lbs factory. Now that specific charger, I wouldn't be surprised if it dipped below 3000
